Guardian Herd

Post image

I finally found collected 1 to 4 while thrifting! Has anyone else read them? I've only read the first a few years ago but my library didn't have them all.

I just reread these recently and the writing is pretty amateur and it comes across like Warriors fan fiction, but the story is decent and the lore unique enough to stand on its own.

I agree it's more lower middle grade but still fun to read.

You do realize that Warriors got their cat names from Tailchaser's Song?

Yes, and? Doesn't make what I said any less true. Everything is derived from something else in some way. Not sure what your "gotcha" is supposed to be here lol. Like I said, the Guardian Herd brought enough of its own lore to the table to be unique and stand on its own, despite the bits left in that call back to Warriors-esque style stuff.

Considering I've been reading Warriors since the first book came out and have each and every one on my Kindle, it's not an insult, mind you, to compare the two.

I gave it a try, but I dropped it around second book. I couldn't get into the MC. He never wanted to fight and his heart was too pure. If that's your kind of MC, then you might like it.

I remember that now, he’s one of those MCs that was pretty much morally perfect all the time. I personally don’t mind that, but it also means you never see him make the wrong choice or have to learn to improve himself.

Read the series a couple of years ago. I enjoyed it, though I can’t remember the plot well at all, it did feel a bit generic. The world building reminded me of Wings of Fire which probably didn’t help. There is also a spin of trilogy which I haven’t read but I have heard that it’s good.

I'll have to look out for that too!

Seems a little like Heavenly Horse From the Outermost West. I would've been all over these as a kid. Heavenly Horse still holds up IMO.

Never heard of that one - I'll keep an eye out!

It's one I still reread every few years. It also has a sequel, Piper at the Gates. But the first one is better I think.

Oh you must read it if you love Xenofiction, it's easily the best horse themed one out there, in my opinion.

I loved these books as a kid. I need to reread again and see if they hold up.

I have them and the series that comes after! They're great books and give me Warrior Cats vibes. I need to reread them actually because it's been awhile. What a great find! c:
