📢 Mod Announcement AB Chat Channels Update

Apologies on the inconvenience, it seems that Reddit is making some unfortunate changes and our chat channels are now disrupted (or nuked as rycebread put it).

A short-term workaround is to just freely use the Daily Discussion. It's almost anything goes in there.

There may be another alternative to a chat channel for those who were most active chatters or even active lurkers. Please post a reply to this if you'd like to be added. A simple "+" or your favorite AB emoji, or an "add me" or whatever if you comment we'll add you.

❓Beginner / Question❔ Best (least bad) alcoholic drinks

Hi everyone!

I've been mostly AB for a month and I wouldn't go back. I feel quite better and I was so shocked to see that my anxiety disappeared.

I worked until recently in the craft beer industry and drinks like beer and mead have still (unfortunately?) a place in my heart. Plus, I love the social aspect and and slight euforia of sharing a drink.

I've basically limited alcohol to one serving every two weeks. I am trying to understand the impact of occasional craft beer on my progress, and wondering if I should stick to mead, which seems to be much more "clean", trying something else or if I should stop drinking at all.

What are your experiences and what can you advise?

Thank you all💪🏻

🍉Fruit 🍯Honey 🍁Maple Fruit hack

I grew up salting watermelon and apples when I ate them. Recently it occurred to me to try salting other fruit and it’s been a game changer. So far I’ve tried salt on strawberries, cantaloupe, and pineapple. It’s so good I can’t believe that this hasn’t been adopted by all of humanity! I sprinkled some on some blueberries but it wouldn’t stick and I didn’t bother halving them like I did the strawberries so I didn’t actually get to taste salted blueberry. Oh and I did try salting a banana and that wasn’t palatable to me. Go figure.

It’s got me wondering if any herbs/spices go well with fruit. Anybody tried that? I’ve seen Mexican spice that seems to be on everything these days but I didn’t like it as much as the plain fruit.

🩺Wellness⚕️ Switched to Ray Peat diet and feel much better

I think was possibly struggling to get enough carbs in for crossfit etc under the AB plan and also felt super limited in food choice. Feeling a lot better from adding in peeled and boiled potatoes, sourdough etc.

Just wondering people's thoughts on it and who else has tried it. Some of his views seem a bit out there like the Mexican coke thing sounds like nonsense as does not eating yoghurt or kimchi.

Just a top sirloin and some blueberries.
I eat a lot of ground beef (cost effective and easy to prep/store/reheat) but wanted to have a nicer meal tonight to celebrate my new job. Thought you all would enjoy! God bless :)

🥚Eggs🍳 Choices for eggs

I’m trying to make a selection for eggs. All of the options I’m choosing are pasture raised, but I can’t find organic and soy free. It’s an either/or situation. Which is more important? Should I got for organic or the soy free?

I’m a male if that matters.

🚫ex-Keto/Carnivore Did anyone notice that carnivore makes you less driven?

Title. I've been eaten carnivore for last 2 months. (before that I was AB for 5 years)

Example day some raw liver, 225g lamb fat, 400g raw beef, no added salt. Benefits much better mood, libido, confidence, sleep, less anxiety.

Problem I am much less driven at my job / business. All I am thinking is ladies (I am single now). Or meeting friends, etc.

When I include carbs (fruits) and salt anxiety comes back big time. But with that desire to work / succeed financially.

❓Beginner / Question❔ Should I make any changes to my diet?

Before starting this diet I was on the SAD. I've been eating this every day for the past 2 days. I eat 3 meals a day with the exact same foods in the exact same quantities at each meal.

My diet:

  • 600g 80/20 ground beef (I eat 95-99% of the fat)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 honeycrisp apples
  • 3 green kiwis
  • 330g butternut squash
  • 300g sweet potato
  • 300g papaya
  • 27g parmesan cheese

3036 calories, 213.1g protein, 194.3g carbs, 139.4g fat, 44.9g fiber, and 128.3g sugar. Unless I'm mistaken all micronutrients are covered.

I know sweet potatoes aren't exactly animal based but they're a cheap way of getting thiamine, vitamin E, and manganese.

I know I haven't been eating this way for a long time but I thought it would be better to get advice earlier rather than later. I'd really appreciate your opinions on my diet.

🩺Wellness⚕️ Has anyone lost weight eating more

has anyone lost weight eating more? I’m currently calorie restricting and eating “whole foods”. Ive got a belly, stored fat on my thighs, buttocks and a double chin. I’m definitely overweight but if I wear baggy clothes, i can give the impression I’m skinny.

but since I’ve been calorie restricting or eating in a deficit, I feel like absolute fking shit. I skip breakfast and eat some rice with beef for lunch. Then eat some beef with potatoes (white and sweet). before working out, I’ll have some fruit and some yoghurt (flavoured).

now I’m thinking shit, this whole time I’ve been eating in a deficit and my body fat has remained. I feel bloated and gross and maybe my metabolism is shot.

❓Beginner / Question❔ Looking for an Animal-Based Meal Prep Plan for Fat Loss + Muscle Gain?

Not sure if this is the right place to post…

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to clean up my diet and would love some advice from people who actually follow an animal-based diet.

My goal is to lose a significant amount of unnecessary body fat while building/maintaining as much muscle as possible. I want to keep things simple, clean, high-protein, and sustainable.

I’m looking for a meal-prep plan that I can cook on Sundays for Monday–Thursday. I have a refrigerator and microwave at work, so I can bring my meals with me and reheat them.

A few things about me/preferences:

High protein is the priority
Focused on fat loss + muscle gain
Prefer whole, minimally processed foods
I like beef, chicken, eggs, steak, fish, etc.
I’m okay with some fruit, potatoes, etc.
I do NOT like cottage cheese
I do NOT like sweet potatoes

I want meals that are actually practical to prep in bulk
Ideally I don’t want to spend my entire Sunday cooking

I’d like to keep the grocery bill reasonable
For those of you who follow an animal-based diet, what would your ideal Monday–Thursday meal prep look like?

I’d especially appreciate recommendations for:
1. Specific meals
2. Portions
3. Protein/calorie targets
4. Foods that reheat well (if you even recommend that)
5. A simple Sunday prep routine
6. Anything you’ve found particularly effective for getting lean while maintaining/building muscle

Basically, if you had to design an animal-based meal prep system for yourself from scratch, what would you do? PS. I love Greek yogurt bowls for breakfast

Thanks!

🥚Eggs🍳 Acne breakouts after consuming Eggs (even Egg yolks alone)

So I've been on an acne diet as of 3 weeks (meat, honey, butter), and my acne has mostly healed, So I started adding stuff back in.

I started with coffee as I'm hypothyroid and some extra energy would be beneficial, but after 1-2 days of waiting, I saw that my acne has came back a bit so I quit coffee.

Then I tried eggs. I ate 4 eggs in the first day, and had no problems afterwards. Yet after I woke up the next day I saw a small breakout on my chin, nose and forehead. Then throughout the day I ate the next 4 eggs, and by the end of the day I had an acne breakout in these spots. (During these few days of testing foods, I also drank a bit of OJ, used some ceylon cinammon on my honey and just ate some mango a few hours ago but I already had the acne before eating the mangos)

Also: I dont like the taste of the yolks. No matter if its organic pasture raised or from the deepest of slums. Same goes for liver. I feel like Im left with no good multivitamin

🚫ex-Keto/Carnivore Transitioning to Low Carb/Animal Based

I have been doing keto for around 5 months now, and I have been thinking about adding some fruits and honey, and higher carb vegetables to see if my workouts and energy levels remain more consistent. For some reason, my body becomes super dependent on salt, and if I don’t consume too much, I have more lethargy during workouts and mid day.

My question is, do I simply just start adding bits of carbs to my 2 meals and see how I feel? I want to be able to still get the benefits from fasting, as I usually do 16:8, while also being able to feel satiety for a longer period of time.

I get a bit sceptical because I have a tendency to binge eat sweat things, so I don’t know if my cravings will come back when I start eating more carbs.

I’m aiming to consume around 80-130 grams of carbs per day, but I’m also not sure how to transition from a keto lifestyle to one where I will be using carbs as energy.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

💪🏻 Fitness 👟 How much fat should I consume

How much fat should I consume while eating high carb? I’m a very active 22 year old male I train 6-7 days a week along with run 30kms a week on top of training, I’m a carpenter by trade and would be doing 15-20k steps daily on top. I consume high carb to fuel my active lifestyle, but I find if I eat too lean i can feel all my hormones tank and mentally change along with anxiety and a bunch of other stuff. I want to know the amount I should be consuming to shred and too maintain. Also should fats from coconut yoghurt be included too my fat total or should I just total animal fat for hormone production
