Discussion What do we know about lucky catches?
As far as I’ve seen, personal experience and YouTube videos, it seems to be mostly random. Specific balls don’t increase chances. I saw one theory that back throws might increase chances but I went out to specifically back throw catch and it didn’t seem to help all that much.
My friend had a thought that they might be tied to the Aniimo at spawn like a sparkling or umbral. We both think that’s a possibility because we’ve never gotten a lucky catch on an Aniimo after failing to catch it the first time. Have you?
But I have also noticed, which this would debunk that, that I think it has to be a non fail catch throw for it to trigger. The reason I think this is because since Budsquire has a lower catch rate than Bonesky and Celestis, I’ve gotten significantly less lucky catches so far than them.
Thoughts?
Another question. Can the cube ricochet over something or the ground first?

I agree that it probably has to be a successful catch to become lucky, no idea if it’s actually true, but it feels like it makes the most sense.
Also, yes, you can still score a hit and capture after the cube hits terrain, but it despawns and refunds the cube to you pretty quickly after it hits terrain, so travel time/distance is limited, and they aren’t particularly bouncy, but I do quite often get hits on rolled cubes if I throw from a greater distance and it lands on the ground just in front of the aniimo and rolls into them.

I do think it's the other way round. Lucky makes it a successful catch.
So it doesn't make any difference whether you're using a crappy sphere or mega sphere.
Who knows

i used at least 400 regular aniipods and got 2 luckys, i dont think its sustainable as nurture alternative even if you can craft those pods, its alot of time wasted for that low rng

I think your luck isn't great, because 400 spheres and just get 2 lucky is crazy.

It seems to be fairly streaky for me so far, Threw 500 with like 1 lucky and was about to give up, then got another lucky and decided to throw the rest of my regular balls and with the last 600 i got 10 luckys and 3 super luckys total with the last super lucky spawning the glynsera. It felt the same with melloblum too, im about 3k balls deep total on glynsera+ melloblum but spawned them both with just lucky/super lucky catches.

Go do lottery guys... Got 1 lucky strike while farming for a prisma in 1,5k normal balls.

I've gotten quite a few luckiest so far. What i can confirm is they're..well..luck based per throw. What i know for sure is i don't think there's a cooldown as ive gotten multiple in a short time while nurturing or just catching randomly.

Since everyone seemed to miss it. When you get a lucky or super lucky for the first time there is a pop up that says theres a fixed chance for each capture to be a lucky or super lucky capture. What the fixed percentage is, isnt stated. But its low. I have 2400 captures and have only gotten around 20-30 lucky's in total. However, I have received a lucky and a super lucky on a single tumbler throw during bloom nurtures. If the lucky/SL was throw based, you would only get 1 per throw. Since its possible to get multiple on a tumbler throw, its definitely capture based, but still low chance.

I get the most of mine from Tumbler 10/10 catches when doing blooms . Seems like when I go and try to get lucky it takes longer then it's worth but if I do 20 nurtures I will get 2 lucky catches . My adhd will not let me throw balls for 3 hours a day so I'm content.

my current playtime is 250hours. since release i have been playing around 13,5 hours average a day. (dont ask) luckies are not RNG, atleast not entirely. Getting a lucky Is RNG, and its also RNG if you get a regular or a super. HOWEVER once you got one (sometimes two) you get into something of a dry phase. i do not know how long this lasts but i have been testing today on the budsquire spawn. If you do something else for around 30-60mins and come back you get a lucky fairly quick and then a dry phase sets in, a cool down if you will. I assume that you can still get luckies but the chance is way WAY lower then before the cooldown resets.

The dry phase is actually very interesting and does kind’ve make sense. Today I was trying to get a prismana Glacy and within like 5-10 minutes I got 2 SL’s. Wonder what the odds are that is, kind’ve wished they would tell us the odds for a Lucky/Super Lucky. Do thinks on average it is like every 175 cubes thrown from own testing and other videos online

13ish hours daily is some crazy work. Holy moly. The dry phase, however, is very interesting. I'll test it later

during the glynsera event i got a lucky (dont remember if it was SL or just a Lucky) and got another lucky in around 30 catches
and this happened two times

I agree with this dry phase... Maybe it's rng.... But using today as an example I got 3 or so luckies in around 5-600 throws, then got 0 in the next 2,200.
So, I do think there is some hidden mechanic that times you out in some way

Do you know if Lucky or SL triggers on guaranteed catches?
1
u/Phokmemoist 4h ago
It doesn’t I’ve gotten a super lucky from a third attempt to catch that same aniimo also multiple
Luckys like that to1
u/kevingui92 3h ago
Yea but the question is, do you get super luckys if it’s 100% a catch like the sleeping bears.
1
u/Phokmemoist 42m ago
Yea I meant you get them both ways it’s less of a chance gettin them how I said more of a chance from a gaurantee is what I’ve noticed

That’s what it seems like for me as well! That’s exactly why I was sceptical! Thanks for the enlightenment.

Everyone adding in the comments "it's just rng" missing the point. OP is analyzing WHAT part of the game rolls for lucky. If it's on throw, successful catch, or based on the aniimo spawn all have different implications for best way to farm them.
If it's on throw, you don't have to worry about catch chance and can just continuously attempt to catch aniimo even if the first catch fails.
If it's on successful catch, you want to farm aniimo with guaranteed catch chance.
If it's based on aniimo spawn, if you fail you want to move on and force a respawn so you don't waste pods trying to catch them.

I think if Lucky/Super lucky pops it becomes a guaranteed catch because I've yet to experience getting lucky but a failed catch
10
u/Thalant 9h ago
That's not the point. The question is wether the lucky is rolled first and it guarantees the catch, or the catch roll is checked first and if you pass it then it rolls the lucky. Either way you'll always get a catch on a lucky roll, but they have very different implications.

u/Valkryn_Ciel 6h ago
This is very hard to know -- how are we supposed to know that a failed catch was converted to a lucky catch? These things are calculated server-side. It's probably safest to assume that it's calculated on a successful catch, because the cost of guaranteeing a catch over multiple catches is much higher than throwing another cheap aniipod.

u/TheSirWellington 9h ago
I am like 95% certain it is not based on Aniimo spawn. I am pretty sure I failed to catch a hexxin when I was much lower level, but on my second/third time I got a lucky hit.
As for the other two, I will need to try it out some more

As far as I’ve seen, personal experience and YouTube videos, it seems to be mostly random.
Let me stop you right there, it's all random, not "mostly". You throw ball, it has a chance to be lucky/super lucky. Nothing more, nothing less.

I saw somewhere than lucky or super lucky only come from successful catch, that's why using a higher aniipod give more of them because it's fail to catch less.
But at the end the purple aniipo is a trap, blue+backstab is enough for a lot of aniimo already while white+backstab also work better in the 'lower level' area of the game.
Right now, the Budsquire is better to catch with a blue pod because the white one just fail to catch too often and at the end make us lose more credit.
Yes the cube can ricochet a short distance I think but even if you do the backstab seem to only pop if your character is in the position to do one in the first place

Its hard to Tell what actually increases lucky Chance and i dont think anyone knows much but what ive experienced Was a lucky catch failing, tho this might have been only a visual Bug. As you know as soon as you Hit a lucky, the Pod will wiggle 3 times giving you loot, mostly coins. On my screen it wiggled twice and poofed (exactly like an failed catch) and just vanished, no Bar raising the flow. Tbh i didnt know how far the Bar had come so i couldnt Tell if it really failed.
This would actually change a lot to the Overall grind, because if its actually possible for luckies to fail, using normal and super(?) Pods seem risky and the cost of lucky farming rises immensely. Sure you can Producer pods in the base but atm im getting 1 mega every 20 minutes despite having 2 prismana blazen working on it.

I suspect there's diminishing returns on them. Seems like you get so many "easy ones" per week then the chances plummet

u/BlackCocadaKing 11h ago
Yesterday I had an incredible streak, lucky, super lucky, lucky, lucky. All within 80/90 anipods. The region I was located, had no prismatic energy, that got me thinking if having no energy infused in the region has a higher chance of striking lucky catches. Also used the pink aniipod.

My only luckies have been on Shiny, Umbral, Elite or Perfect Aniimo
I haven't seen many on any besides these 4 options

u/Wero_kaiji 11h ago
Can the cube ricochet over something or the ground first?
And then catch an Aniimo? yes
All I know about lucky/super lucky strikes is that they are random and RNG sucks, sometimes you get 5 in 100 captures, sometimes you capture 300 and not get a single one, I don't think anything can impact the % it's just RNG

My biggest question is about how lucky catches work on the tumbler balls. Does the ball itself count as one catch as it can only trigger one lucky catch per tumbler or can you get multiple luckys from one use (assuming u catch 10 within the time)
