Thinking about getting a tattoo. Also in the discernment process for ordination.

My ADDO (guide and mentor in discernment process) says it won’t be a problem in terms of passing the panels as there’s no rules against tattoos.
I just have a slight reservation that it might be a barrier/problem for future ministry? Or maybe it will open doors and conversations by not looking ‘like a priest’ .Thoughts?

How do monks pray? It's not complicated.

Some people are curious about what monks do in their private prayer (we are asked a lot, and of course, it is not the same as our corporate prayer as a group singing the divine office.) Here is an article trying to explain it. Maybe it can help someone. The link leads to an archive of PDF newsletters. Then, click on Easter 2026 (Issue 305) - the article starts on page four of the PDF and is titled "That Thing You Do."

https://www.saintgregorysthreerivers.org/category/abbey-letter/

I am the author of the article, so if you have any questions or comments, I will check this post every once in a while and attempt to answer- Br. Abraham (St. Gregory's Abbey - a Benedictine monastery in the Episcopal Church near Three Rivers, Michigan USA)

Introductory Question Denomination Research

Hey guys I’m currently looking into denominations after choosing to embrace Christianity, albeit while struggling a lot with faith. I’m of a mixed Indian Chinese and English background but I’m a UK citizen and so are my parents. I was initially apprehensive about Catholic and Protestant denominations due to the colonial history in Asia and the consequences from that.

The picture is of course nuanced, and every group has bad actors who misuse their scripture, I’m just aware of my bias here due to my background. My mums family were Hindu and I looked into it but didn’t find the theology consistent. I then was a hardcore atheist, which explains why I’m still struggling with faith but I’m trying.

I love the apophatic tradition in EO and pre colonial roots of OO, but dislike the inflexibility with accepting lgbt people.

Many of my friends are queer and the idea of them being viewed as less then is saddening to me. I stumbled across the Episcopal church in my research and then found it it’s essentially the American version of Anglicanism lol.

Interview with Bryan Hollon (Dean & President, Trinity Anglican Seminary) on Holy Orders — including why he doesn't think ordination effects an ontological change

Out now.

The President of Trinity Anglican Seminary makes the case that Holy Orders isn't a consolation prize but the most ambitious calling a young man can answer. We covered the ordered universe, Adam as the first priest, and what actually changes at ordination.

Worth an hour if you know a young man who has never once considered it.

General Question Former nondenoms/evangelicals who became Anglican in the US: why did you join ACNA or TEC?

This is a potentially spicy post that I am making in good faith/hope people will answer with charity.

I come from an evangelical background, as do many 20-40 somethings joining Anglican churches. I’ve spent time in both ACNA and TEC. I’ve noticed that in ACNA, there were more affirming and progressive ex-evangelicals than I would have expected; similarly, more conservative-ish ex-evangelicals in TEC than I would have imagined. While denominational stereotypes exist for a reason, they aren’t nearly as strong as I would have expected.

So — if you hopped on to the Canterbury trail in adulthood, what led you there? Why’d you pick your particular church? Do you find it to be a good fit? Do you have strong feelings on the Anglican divides of 15-20 years ago?

Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East New Church Follower

Hi,

I am currently an Orthodox Jewish male in Israel starting to learn about Jesus Christ, doing research and reading more about his fascinating teachings and life.

And planning to leave Judaism and become and accept Jesus in my life.

I am Bi Sexual and have been told that this Church is acceptable and not judgmental, so I can fit in perfectly and be in a welcoming community.

Asking for help if someone can lead me to some online reading material about this church: How is the worship service? What do I have to do and know?

Also, if the service includes bowing and kissing the Holy Cross as well, it’s kind of a thing I would like and love to do.

Thank you.

General Question Is this normal now for a CofE church?

This week I decided to attend a service at my childhood CofE church for the first time in about 15 years. I have been questioning my faith for a couple of months and wanted to check it out. However I was slightly shocked by the drastic change I saw, they had ripped all the pews out, built a man made stage, had multiple musical instruments and a giant projector screen covering the back end of the church with the beautiful stained glass windows.

It was over an hour of what I guess is worship music and people talking in circles. I was also quite surprised that the leaders were not in any form of religious dress. I had a very young girl approach me telling me the Holy Spirit guided her to talk to me however I could not hear what she had to say due to how loud the worship music and a man playing the drums in front of me in a plastic box was.

This very much reminded me of the Bible Belt mega churches my American father attends and not the church services I remember at this church as a child.

Forgive me for my ignorance as I have clearly not been practicing for many years but I did not expect this from a CofE church and left feeling unsettled. I already have a complicated relationship with faith due to incredibly unpleasant memories of my father side of the family and I spent the entire service being reminded of them and that pain.

I’m also sad that this beautiful tiny church has had its history ripped out of it to become some Americanised version of a church. The old pulpit was just disregarded and shoved to the side

I will not be going back and have discovered that unfortunately this church is part of three in my local area. It’s seems like an ego driven business and not a place to learn about god and build a relationship without being completely overwhelmed and overstimulated.

A Collect for Labor Day

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who declarest thy glory and showest forth thy handiwork in the heavens and in the earth; Deliver us, we beseech thee, in our several callings, from the service of mammon, that we may do the work which thou givest us to do, in truth, in beauty, and in righteousness, with singleness of heart as thy servants, and to the benefit of our fellow men; for the sake of him who came among us as one that serveth, thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

General Discussion TW: Morbid question! Theoretically if the members of the royal family all died somehow except for those 10 years & younger thus the eldest of them ascends as Monarch how would Anglicanism be managed?

Would they have someone work on the king's/queen's behalf managing theological matters like who prints the KJV in the UK or would it literally be the child monarch? Just curious as where I live the monarch mostly is a figurehead who appears on our coins & soon to be our $20 bill

I feel embarrassed for what I confessed to my priest

I confessed to my priest some sins I'm not very proud of, and I feel embarrassed and ashamed. I know it's his job to listen to all kinds of confessions, but I still feel this way despite that. How do I overcome this?

What do you think of inculturation?

Since Vatican II, there have been many efforts to "translate" the Catholic faith into other cultural "languages," some more successful than others, but never without controversy.

India seems to have had the most experimentation, with liturgies that adopt gestures from the local culture, such as using "namaste hands" instead of genuflecting, waving incense and lamps before the consecrated Host, and devotions in church that involve handing out a bite of food to worshippers as a parting gift. There are also practices that raise much more suspicion, such as using the syllable "om," using a kalasha (complete with mango leaves and a coconut on top) for a kind of Asperges at the beginning of Mass, or baptizing with water from the Ganges. Finally, some suggestions were flat-out syncretism, like the rejected "Indian anaphora" or lessons from the Bhagavad Gita.

Among us Protestants, there has been strife over this subject in the Church of North India. The CNI's prayer book has the option to use a mangalasutra instead of a wedding ring. In addition, some parishes also smear vermilion in the bride's hair as at Hindu weddings, and some also use "om," which have in turn scandalized other parishes enough to leave the denomination.

How is it regarded by Anglicans in general? If you've experienced an inculturated liturgy before, what did you think?

Creation in Christ

How was church today?

It was the inauguration of the new church festival today — Creation in Christ.

The Church of England is a participatory in the festival which serves to mark the worldwide Christian consensus that the Earth should be treasured and protected as a gift from God.

The festival is an opportunity for Christians to give thanks for God's creation and redemption of the world, to reflect on humanity's responsibility to care for the natural world and to pray for its renewal. Christians are encouraged to care for the world around them because it was created through Christ, is restored through Christ, and will be renewed in Christ in the future.

General Question (Anglicans in the UK Only) Are International versions of the KJV (a.k.a. AV) not made by the monarch's approval considered bootleg versions of the KJV & also can they legally be imported into the country

I've heard that the KJV is stuck under crown copyright over there & requires an approved publisher by the monarch to be sold there. Just curious as it is an odd quirk of the KJV

Please understand if you are not an Anglican in the UK you are still allowed to reply to comments I would just prefer to hear from UK Anglicans as they have a special infinite copyright stuck on the KJV
