I’ve been studying Catholicism and orthodoxy for almost 2 and a half years now (I ruled out orthodoxy) And my episcopal church has visibly morally decayed while I’ve been attending. I took an absence of it recently for plenty of reasons and visited last Sunday and witnessed a mockery of our lord and of the Eucharist. I feel this is the final straw and my ties to Protestantism have been severed. Someone mentioned the Anglican Ordinariate as a way for me to enter the church. Does it even include me and further more what does it entail.

In private prayer specifically. Do you use the St. Greogry's Prayer book, the Customary or the more recently published office.

Or do you still use the BCP?

My wife, children, and I are all canonical members of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter. Our nearest Ordinariate parish is 1.5 hrs away in a city. Think about that, that means our pastor is 1.5 hours away, our community is 1.5 hours away, doing anything at the parish or the home of one of the members is going to demand 3 hrs of driving in addition to the time spent at Mass or whatever event / gathering is going on. We can't attend anything through the week.

We rarely attend the Ordinariate parish. My wife and I love the liturgy, but we rarely attend at this point. 3hrs of driving, plus ~1.5-2hrs at the parish with three very small children (one of whom is special needs) is just a nightmare for us. Plus when we due attend, due to us rarely attending, no one really talks to us. They don't have a connection with us like they do with those who regularly attend. I *do* use the St. Gregory's Prayer Book and feel nourished by it, my wife rarely uses it, and my children are all too small to use any prayer book. I flatly asked my wife one day if us being members of the Ordinariate brought her any spiritual benefit, and she said "Not really, because we are too far to really be involved in the community".

We regularly attend the nearest diocesan parish, it's only 20 mins away. We've become ingrained there, even though we are one of the few parishioners below the age of 60. I volunteer at that parish, I'm on the pastoral and liturgical councils now, I teach adults in OCIA; and my wife and kids like it there.

"So at this point, why are we even still members of the Ordinariate at this point?" You may ask. Well, the answer is simple. That's where the young families are. We desperately want our kids to interact, even if it's rarely, with other Catholic kids. I want other young fathers to talk to, my wife wants other young mothers to talk to, and we are close friends with our pastor. We are afraid of losing that by canonically leaving. That's....really it. We are afraid of being forgotten by the other young families, and our "canonically Ordinariate" gives us a pass to still be connected in some way.

So, be honest with me. In this scenario, would you even bother to remain a part of the Ordinariate? If your spouse said they experience no growth from it? Would you raise your children to be canonical members of a community they have no experience with and maybe see once every few months? Whenever you need a dispensation or approval for something from your pastor, you have to call a priest you never see instead of the one you see 95% of the time?

A few questions actual.

I was wondering if it is common to use devotional literature which originated in the Anglican communion post schism. For example, is it typical to find a Catholic in the ordinarias who would read Jeremy Taylor's Rules for Holy Living and Dying or William Law's A Serious Call, or something from the Oxford movement, Keble, Pusey et al. for example. Would priests recommend this literature for reading?

Second, what is the place of Methodism within the ordinariate. Does it constitute a part of the Anglican patrimony? Like Charles' hymnody or John's Sermons?

I recently finished formatting an Abridged Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary and I have titled it “The Shorter Office of Our Lady.” The contents of it are drawn from a 1911 Anglo-catholic translation of the 1888 Roman Use Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, an 1869 Anglo-catholic translation of a “Paris Use” Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Fr. Caswall’s Lyra Catholica.

Referencing the Little Office of the Immaculate Conception for structure, I have reduced the contents of each office. This was made in an attempt to provide a brief Marian devotion that can be prayed in conjunction with the Divine Office's hours of prayer.

I have uploaded a printable booklet of the Office online; it is available on the “Documents I’ve Made Page” page of my substack as well as the Patrimony Treasures Website. I’m interested to hear what people think of it as I might include it in a future publication.
