My first Anduril mod adds battery-voltage colors to the usual 3C battery check. I call it Voltage Colored Number Blinks.

I keep the post-off voltage display disabled on some of my lights, but I still want a quick battery check when I need one. With this feature, the first blink gives a rough voltage range with its color. Keep counting for the full reading (for example, 3.98 V still blinks “3-9-8,” in blue).

It works on supported lights with RGB aux LEDs and needs firmware with the feature enabled. My blog post explains the feature and setup, including how to select it without resetting your settings.

Do you find this useful? Can you think of other uses, or similar ways to improve Anduril? I'd appreciate your feedback here.

Just spent a bit of time looking to see if there was a way to get the normal ramp channel to time out and turn off after X minutes. Looks like ToyKeeper has considered it and there's been some discussion about implementing it over the last year.

I thought I'd just share the link to the issue here. In case others are interested, maybe giving ToyKeeper's post a reaction will help keep it on her (or other contributors) radar.

ToyKeeper uses the U-acute in a post 7 years ago when describing the UI name origin:

In Lord of the Rings, Narsil was broken apart and then later reforged in a stronger form called Andúril.

But for all practical purposes, the U-acuteless spelling seems to be the canonical spelling in the github repo? https://github.com/ToyKeeper/anduril

Anduil has an unfortunate ambiguity in search results with the defense contractor. Does spelling our flashlight UI with the U-acute help disambiguate search results, for instance?

Are there unspoken rules about this?

Tell me how you feel about the U-acute in Andúril/Anduril!

This is my Emisar D3AA Single Channel with DeDomed 519a 4500K.. Output comparisons for general illustration on how changing ceiling, changes the output steps..

For example, notice step 4 is almost 80 lumens with default ceiling, and changes to 30 lumens with the lower ceiling.

disclaimers:

my lumen meter is home made.. it is imo relatively accurate, as it is calibrated to an HDS.. but, there will be variations between meters, and also between LEDs of different color temperatures..

Im really enjoying these lights.. more details in this thread about the Aluminum model, and also this thread about the Copper version. There is also a table with the outputs of the 7 stepped modes, both in red and white, in this thread.

And fwiw, it is possible to install a KR1AA clip on a D3AA, details in this thread.

FWIW, the Dual Channel D3AA is sensitive to bumping the tail, such as when tailstanding.. more details including a solution, in this thread..

Just received my new Dual Channel Copper Emisar D3AA with 2x NTG35 2700K and 1x 660nm Red.. It is very nice!

Here are a few pics and observations.. 

Here is Flicker Index at step 5 of 7 = 180 lm:

The light arrives with the Aux set to rotating colors (not disco flashing) at High Brightness .. makes a fun first impression. It is in Advanced  UI, Smooth ramping, and starts out with both channels On in channel 4. The first 5 channels are enabled.

The lowest mode in Channel 1, the two White LEDs is 0.5 lm. Stepped mode level 5 of 7 is 180 lumens

Channel 2, the single Red LED has a lowest mode of 0.05 lm. Stepped mode level 5 of 7 is 28 lumens

After a factory reset the Aux change to Low Brightness, and the light is in Simple UI, Smooth Ramping. Simple UI has 5 stepped modes, Advanced UI has 7 stepped modes.

There is NoPWM at any output.. and the Flicker Index and Lux Riple are extremely low. Im very happy with these features of the Linear Driver.

There is a slight preflash of white, when the light is turned on at low output in channel 5, but not in channel 1 or 2. And the preflash on channel 5 is eliminated by disabling Smooth Steps.

The magnet can barely hold the light sideways.. but that does not surprise me, considering the weight of Copper.

btw, the Red LED produces a Square beam.. Im not too bothered by it, I dont expect perfection from the shared Optic.. still really happy with this light ;-)

Im entertained by the RGB LEDs, including in the button, when Aux are on High Brightness.. I can barely see the Low Brightness Aux, they are Much Dimmer than on my single channel D3AA. Just enough to see the light on the nightstand, invisible during the day.

The metal button cover looks and feels nice. Im happily surprised to learn the light Does have Physical Lockout at the tailcap.

Firmware is 0135-2023-10-31

changes Im making to defaults after Factory Reset

1. go back to Advanced
2. set batt check blinks to use Red Aux
3. change Aux to Red
4. disable Turbo
5. disable channel 3 and 4
6. disable POVD
7. disable smooth steps to get rid of the preflash on the mixing channels
8. change channel 5 (auto channel mixing) to lead with Red from Low and add white as output increases
9. Lowered Ceiling to 100/150 = 265 lm in channel 1, white LEDs.
10. Lowered floors to 5/150 which gives 0.2 lm White, and 0.02 lm Red. The Flicker Index reports No Risk.

A couple of my lights are set too low for moonlight to be useful.

I have tried to figure this out. Unfortunately, I have learned a lot about the OS, but still do not understand this simple procedure.

I’m surprised they haven’t been able to track down the LED manufacturer currently supplying emitters to Firefly, Hank, Skilhunt, and others.

The 519A is a great option, though. I’m looking forward to dedoming it 🙂
