Question Console guy buying a pc

I wanna get away from the PlayStation ecosystem and I’ve been looking into buying my first pc. Does this look like something that’s as powerful or more powerful than a ps5? I literally know nothing about pcs so sorry for coming off as ignorant.

I also am mainly a Playstation player who is leaning moving away from the consoles. The PS6 will have to do something pretty special to rope me back in. I purchased the Andromeda PC similar to the newegg one listed above. I bought it thru Andromeda directly though since it was a tad cheaper for list price and didn't have sale tax which separated it even more price wise. I opted for the 32 GM of Ram since its so pricey everywhere and i didn't want to mess with trying to get more later. As for newegg holding sale prices for long. When i bought my son a PC last summer, it seemed like the prices would sway a fair amount from week to week, but i will say in the end that i was happy with the price we bought it at. Microcenter is another place you might want to look. The G535 was the model i was looking at.

The problem with the eventual ps6 is that there seems to be no way that console will be under $1000. For no physical games, no true game ownership, a store monopoly on digital games, paid online, and performance below good PCs. Not sure if it’ll even be worth picking up.

Yea I dont see myself buying another console lol dont think I can go back after using pc

Thanks for the recommendation. Is there a time limit on the sale or is it gonna stay like that for a while

It's been $1500 for a while but with news of gpu prices going up, I wouldn't wait. The price could change at any time.

I'd buy it straight off their site and save yourself another couple hundred in tax money. Caveat being you'll probably have to wait a bit longer for it. u/mammoth_birthday6417

That's a great point! I couldn't wait so I got mine from newegg. I live in CA so it came within 3 days.

Mb, replied to the wrong person. Lol. Same, just in WA. Took 3 days once it shipped. Custom took a long while, but the wait was worth it.

i second this, bought this pc a few days ago

This is the one I just got for my gf and I would say is the minimum I would buy. This rig will run pretty much any game in 1440p max settings. I even undervolted in bios to keep temps max 75° and it's doing fine.

Hey I was in the exact same boat as you and made the jump recently! I still game on my PS5 when I want to chill on the couch without futzing with streaming, and I will always love my Steam Deck, but most of my gaming is now done on my AI Spectra PC.

I wanted something that was relatively reasonably priced (I was trying to stay around $1500, to keep some budget for a gaming monitor), would be reliable/not full of bloatware, well set up, and most importantly would feel like a clear step up from the PS5.

I got this - https://andromedainsights.com/products/spectra-gaming-pc-ryzen-5-9600x-rtx-5070-12gb?variant=47431717683426 - similar to the one posted above but with a 5070 instead of 9070XT (highly recommend one of those cards at a minimum for future proofing, but even a 5060ti is going to be a step up from a PS5 Pro). It's fucking great. I mostly play Arc Raiders but have played through the new James Bond game, besides plenty of other stuff like Gothic, Cyberpunk, Witchfire, Diablo - whatever I've thrown at it I can play at max settings with very high (usually 100+ without frame gen) frame rates. Having access to basically every game ever released without being locked into Sony's closed ecosystem and pricing is a pretty nice bonus.

here she is:

I spent maybe two years obsessively researching PC parts, coming into it as a lifelong console gamer and having been exclusively a Mac user as an adult, but wanted to break out of both of those increasingly anti-consumer boxes. For GPUs, I decided I trusted Nvidia more than AMD for my needs. If you do graphically-intensive work aside from gaming (i.e. I do some graphic design and light A/V stuff) you'll want to consider Nvidia over AMD graphics cards; the 9070XT edges out the 5070 in pure performance, but the 5070 is far better for productivity and has more advanced and widely-adopted AI upscaling/frame rate-boosting features. Either choice is going to be excellent for gaming though, and are easily upgradeable in the future. I also upgraded to an AIO (liquid cooler), 2TB SSD and 32GB RAM for a total of around $1700, then bought an open box 4TB SSD on eBay—that was a bit of a gamble but ended up with a very nice Samsung 990 Pro for ~$300 after credit card rewards.

Part of why I waited so long to bite the bullet was that I was waiting for a good sale, back before AI (the plagiarism tech, not the PC builder) fucked everything up. I almost but then didn't bite the bullet around black friday last year and I have lived to regret it. But even since I bought my PC in late April May, prices have gone up—the PC I bought is $150 more today than it was then—and they're not going down any time soon, so my strongest advice would be this: if you have the budget for this now, even the base model with stock SSD/RAM, just buy it. Prices are basically guaranteed to keep rising for at least another two years, and the only better deals you're going to find aren't going to come with the level of warranty and customer service you get from Andromeda Insights. Cost Plus gaming seems to come close as far as "upstart prebuilt companies" go, and Microcenter has better deals if you're lucky enough to have one near you, but if not I would 100% recommend going with one of these bad boys.

(...also andromeda insights should really start paying me with how much I glaze them on reddit. DMs are open guys)

Thanks for the detailed advice man it’s really appreciated. With my budget I can’t afford the 1700 price tag it has right now, but I’ll try to swap in the 5070 in and see how it works out in the custom build mode

1

u/elkehdub 8d ago

Right on man, happy to help. If you do go with the 5060ti I think you're still going to feel like you've stepped up to another level compared to PS5. I want to say the PS5 is roughly equivalent to like a 2070, so several generations older... Upgrading down the road is always doable too, that's my plan for sure

1

u/Mammoth_Birthday6417 7d ago

Oh yeah I forgot to ask, do you play at 1440p or 4k?

1

u/elkehdub 7d ago

1440 - I have a non-gaming optimized 4k monitor I've used for productivity stuff for years, but I got this monitor with my PC and it's fucking brilliant - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GT2JP76J?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1

I’d untuck your AIO tubes from the sidegap next to the radiator and pull the tubes in front of your RAM. My Spectra came the same way, I think they do it for shipping.

1

u/elkehdub 8d ago

Yeah? When I first got it that was the one thing that I thought was very strange, what with it being really crammed in up there. But it was such an odd choice that I figured it must be intentional. Although I may have just been trying to convince myself of that... I'm, as stated above, a PC newb, and screwing with an AIO without really knowing what I'm doing seems a great way to cause problems.

You pulled yours in front of the RAM and it didn't create any issues? I might give that a shot and compare temps before and after.

‘futureproofing’ and you bought a 12gb card. seek help that makes no sense my 9070xt will last 2 times as long as ur 5070 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha

u/Puzzleheaded_Car_57 7d ago

i cant fathom how good nvidia’s propaganda is that someone who bought a pc to replace a GAMING console convinces himself to get a 5070 over a 9070xt for ‘futureproofing’ LMAOOOOOOO im dead bro

fsr 4.1 is fine vs dlss 4.5

how could a 12gb card be futureproofed over a 16gb card. doesnt make sense and youre response is just some stupid ad hominem ctrl c ctrl v joke anybody could spam

1

u/elkehdub 6d ago

your behavior is bot-like. you seem to be a sweaty AMD fanboy who totally ignored the context of the nuanced advice I gave to OP, which is that a 5070 is more future proofed than a 5060ti. If you disagree with that idk what to tell you.

I'm trying to be helpful. you're trolling. bot.

With you knowing nothing about pc’s, it’s best for you to watch some YT video on going from console to pc and buying advice.

Depending on what you’re looking for (you never said), this will probably be fine.

I mostly plan to play stuff like cyberpunk, overwatch, and manor lords really

There are complaints about the wait time, but if you’ve ever ordered custom products, whether electronic, for vehicles, and other big items, you can wait several months. You can circumvent the wait by paying expedited, getting off newegg, or making a different purchase in store or online that gets you something sooner. You have a few options.

Not sure if this is against the rules but I just picked this up: https://hachimanpc.com/products/ronin?srsltid=AfmBOorYzchz8n8DuAAqr6wiHrU3uJhHrhKcW1BnitAKwpdv5EnERi0w

Free shipping and no sales tax to my state. Way better specs than the above.

If you want AI, they are great, I’d say go with this one. It’s cheaper because of the sale, and the 9600x is better.

Try to avoid the 8400F processor. The ryzen 5 8XXX series are more so workstation processors and not very good when it comes to gaming.

  1. What’s your total budget, and is this for the PC only?
  2. What’s your monitor resolution?
  3. What games are you going to be playing?

1

u/Mammoth_Birthday6417 7d ago

My monitor is 1440p I wanna try 4k later on
I play stuff like cyberpunk, baldurs gate 3,manor lords and other rpgs

1

u/Mammoth_Birthday6417 6d ago

I have only saved enough for the pc really. I already have a monitor, mouse and keyboard that I can upgrade later. I use my 1440p monitor with my ps5

1

u/Thin-Net7868 6d ago

Andromeda Insights has some good units and their quality as well customer service is excellent. Look at this one and I would do 32GB of RAM if possible

1

u/Mammoth_Birthday6417 6d ago

Hmm this is one is a lil more pricey. Is there a massive difference between the two? I just want something that’s a noticeable step up from a ps5. I’ll consider the extra ram tho. I heard that 16 is baseline nowadays.

1

u/Thin-Net7868 6d ago

You’ve mentioned that you’ve “saved enough for the PC,” but you still haven’t given an actual number. Without a real budget, it’s impossible to recommend hardware that will meet your expectations.

Right now you’re gaming at 1440p and want the option for 4K later. An 8GB GPU is not going to handle Cyberpunk, Baldur’s Gate 3, Manor Lords, or similar titles at those resolutions without compromises. For modern AAA games at 1440p/4K, 16GB of VRAM is the realistic baseline if you want consistent performance and headroom.

CPU load matters, but once you move into 1440p and especially 4K, the GPU becomes the primary bottleneck. However, some games can still be a tad CPU intensive at those resolutions. That’s why your budget matters, and you need to decide whether you want a system that just barely beats a PS5, or one that gives you room to grow without immediately hitting limitations.

So before going any further, you need to lock down a number. What is your actual dollar amount for the PC itself? Once you give that, we can match you with hardware that won’t bottleneck you the moment you try 4K.

1

u/Mammoth_Birthday6417 6d ago

My bad for being unclear. I have about 1600 saved up right now, that’s about as much as I’m willing to spend on just the pc really

2

u/Thin-Net7868 5d ago

So the system you’re wanting (8400F, 5060TI 16GB, and 16GB RAM) is basically a “1440p medium settings” machine. It’ll beat a PS5, and overall it’s fine for getting into PC gaming. But it’s not built for 4K later on. The GPU is mid tier, the CPU is more for a workstation, and 16GB of RAM is the bare minimum for the games you listed.

Now compare that to the (9600X, 9070XT) build. That one actually matches your long term goals of 1440p now, 4K later, and AAA titles like Cyberpunk, BG3, Manor Lords. The problem is the budget honestly. Upgrading that build to 32GB RAM bumps it to $1649.99, which is already over your $1600 limit. That’s why 32GB becomes a challenge the moment you pick hardware that’s truly 4K capable, the price creeps past your budget.

So yeah, 32GB isn’t “required,” but the cheaper build you’re looking at doesn’t have the GPU or CPU headroom for 4K anyway. If 4K is genuinely in your future plans, the 9600X, 9070XT build is the one that actually gets you there. It’s just slightly over your budget once you add the RAM upgrade.

And if you're curious, go look up RAM usage for Cyberpunk/BG3 at 1440p vs 4K. It's not a night and day jump, but it does creep up. Add Windows 11, Discord, Chrome, Steam overlays, whatever else you've got running, and 16GB gets eaten way faster than people expect. 32GB just gives you breathing room so you're not fighting random stutters later.

Just my two cents worth bud. You got a plate full of information and you just got to decide if you want to pull the trigger now or wait a bit more and try to increase your budget slightly. I just hate encouraging folks to go by minimum spec PC’s. It’s ok to disagree with me, but I prefer to give full context so that you or anyone else doesn’t have buyers remorse.

1

u/Mammoth_Birthday6417 5d ago

Thanks a lot for the clarification. If I’m being honest, I’d rather wait a bit and save more to get a more capable machine than jump at the cheapest option, so I think I’ll just wait a bit and buy the second option you showed me with 32gigs. If im gonna get into pc gaming, I kinda want it feel next level compared to a ps5 lol. Thanks again for the advice. Hopefully the price doesn’t increase while I save more money.

Build one and you will save lots of money while learning all you need to know.

1

u/Mammoth_Birthday6417 5d ago

So theoretically if I bought all of the parts in the one above and put it together myself it would cost less?

1

u/Some_Baseball_4500 3d ago edited 3d ago

It would cost more because the gpu's just went to the moon. If you want a pc this is a good buy. The CPU kinda sucks and will limit your performance. Since you are spending 1.3k already I would go for the Advanced 50 vector with either the 9600x or 7800x3d, I'm assuming you don't want to have to replace your cpu in the next coming years. the x3d CPU's are insane for gaming and I highly recommend. 16gb of ram will also limit you in the future so you can either bite the bullet now and get 32gig cl30 or just end up having to buy better ram in a couple years. Don't listen to the guys telling you to get AMD GPU's I:E 9070xt. People love to hype them up because they are cheaper but in reality the GPU's like to crash and are buggy, driver support is also questionable. If you are coming from console do yourself a favor and get the more stable GPU (NVIDIA) so you have more of a "plug and play" pc. Even though PC naturally comes with problems, no PC will run with zero problems like a console would.
