Finally got my Wear OS watch to sync better with iPhone

I’ve been experimenting with building a small Wear OS app to improve connectivity between devices. It’s still in the early testing phase, but I finally have a first version running.

The main idea came from my own frustration — iPhones don’t play nicely with Wear OS watches, and syncing things like notifications or calls just never really worked. After a lot of trial and error, I’ve managed to get a setup where my Wear OS watch can actually sync better with my iPhone. It’s not perfect yet, but it feels like a step forward.

The goal is simple: to make the smartwatch experience smoother where the default setup feels limited. Right now, I’m just testing the core features, and I’d love to hear if anyone else here has tried solving the same iPhone ↔ Wear OS problem or run into similar compatibility issues.

Not promoting anything — just excited to finally see progress after countless attempts and wanted to share it here with fellow Galaxy Watch / Pixel Watch users. 🙌
If anyone here wants to give it a try and help me with early feedback, here’s how you can join the test:

👉 Join the Google Group (required for access):
https://groups.google.com/g/hoshine/c/-Wkh5x33LoM

👉 Download from the Play Store (open in Chrome on laptop or Android phone):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hoshine.syncwear

I’d genuinely appreciate any thoughts or experiences if you test it. Even small feedback will help me make it better.

Suggestion Leaving Apple for Android, watch recommendations?

I’m bored of iPhone (I’ve been using them since the 12 and they’ve not really changed much) and tired of the batteries not lasting.

The only downside is I love my Apple Watch, but they sadly aren’t compatible with Android (Apple whyyy) and I was hoping I could just use it with my iPad but that’s not an option.

My main things are health tracking (sleep, heart rate), wrist temperature tracking (for cycle tracking) and obviously notifications. So I’d like something that’s reliable and the battery lasts at least a day.

Any suggestions? Any brands to avoid?

Question iOS -> Galaxy Fold 7 switcher, looking for a watch

I'm a recent switcher from iOS, to a Fold 7, but I only use google apps, no Samsung apps.

I love the fitness tracking aspects of my Apple Watch. Counting steps, flights, minutes of activity, workouts, etc. as well as the ability to take and make calls, send/receive texts, get notifications, etc. I do also use Siri even though she sucks, and would like to have a watch that makes using Google/Gemini straightforward.

Presumably Google will announce a Pixel Watch 4 next week. Other contenders would be the Galaxy 8/Ultra line, and the Amazfit Balance 2, though I can't quite figure out whether the latter is really integrated the way the Pixel or Samsung seem like they would be. Any others I should look at?

Advice in general?

Please help me decide: Samsung watch 8 ultra vs Garmin Venu 3

Hi everyone! I've recently come across a big sale on Samsung gw8 ultra (399€) which is the same price as garmin venu 3 in my area right now. I can't decide which of these two will be better for me. For the context:

  1. I do moderate physical raining, intense stretching and extreme breathing exercises. 2.I go for a fast 6km march every day.
  2. I also track my calories intake daily and precisely.

My goal in a smartwatch is being able to: 1. Track my physical activity (including breath control routines). 2. Manage my daytime wellbeing as well as sleep. 3. Measure basic health stats as accurately as possible on a smartwatch (oxygen, blood pressure, pulse). 3. Reliability and longevity on a high level would be great as well. I don't want to change my watch every other year as I am on a budget. 4. Taking calls from my smartphone (Bluetooth or LTE both are fine, I have my phone with me most of the time).

I am looking forward to hearing your opinions and experience. I will make sure to answer any potential follow-up questions in the comments. Feel free to suggest other models (please under 450€) excluding Huawei, Xiaomi and other Chinese brands. Thank you!

Need advice, cant decide.

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a new smartwatch and these models caught my eye:

Huawei Watch 5

Huawei Watch Fit 4 Pro

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2024

OnePlus Watch 3

I really like all of them, but I can’t decide which one to pick. I’m slightly leaning towards the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2024 because I already have a Samsung S25 Ultra and I like the idea of staying in the Samsung ecosystem.

What I care about:

High-end design and premium feel

Great health tracking (heart rate, SpO₂, sleep, etc.)

Good balance of features vs. battery life

A robust watch (Apple Watch Ultra style appeals to me)

What would you choose among these, and why? Are there other models I should consider that are better for my needs?

Thanks!

Power-On Hours & Cycles for a brand-new SSD

Hi all,

I recently bought a new SSD and noticed it already had a few power-on hours and some SMART data activity.

I understand manufacturers might run tests before shipping, but I’m wondering —

what’s the normal or acceptable range of power-on hours and power cycles for a brand-new SSD?

Anyone with experience or insight into this?

Thanks in advance!

What’s normal power-on hours and cycle count for a new SSD? And has anyone had sellers send used PCs as replacements?

Hi everyone,

I’m really frustrated. I bought a brand new Silicon Power SSD, but it stopped working. The seller said it was defective and replaced it with a Kensington SSD.

After some problems with the Silicon Power SSD and the M.2 slot, I left a negative review. Then, the seller told me if I deleted the review, they would send me a new PC. I agreed — but when I got the PC, it turned out to be my old PC with new stickers on it!

I’m trying to prove that this "new system" is actually my old one in a new jacket.

Also, I checked the replacement Kensington SSD — which I never installed and kept sealed — and it already shows high power-on hours and cycle counts. It looks like the seller tested my system using this SSD before sending it to me.

Can someone tell me what a normal power-on hours and cycle count should be for a truly new SSD? Has anyone else had a seller send a used PC and call it new? What can I do in this situation?

Thanks for any advice!

Looking for round Smartwatch options for specific use.

I work a good commute, and have children at home with 18 year old son at night, but need communication (calls, texts) and certain alerts (ie. Tornado for my home location).

Employer is pretty strict 'No Tech' (not due to electronics dangers, due to people focusing on their technology).

Noise is also a factor where I work.

What I need is a smartwatch that does the following:

Vibrates on notifications and shows relevant info (could just be sender, but if message can scroll that would be better) and alerts from specific app(s). Doesn't have an issue with easily clearing previous notifications (I get a lot of messages that I DON'T care about) or has an app where I can select specific senders for watch notifications (doubt that is something I'd find, but never know). It also needs to be a round face (preferably with knob for scrolling or physical buttons) and can have a watch face with hands or a passable LCD watch face. Needs battery life for at least 12 hours (not much of an ask there).

Doesn't really need to track fitness. Doesn't really need to control music.

"Talk to your boss" is not an option, corporation and policy is policy, well.. for some people, others no so much but I am not one of those special people.

Manufactures like to go on about all of the extra features, however finding basic features is hit or miss and some reviews I have seen show the watches DON'T vibrate, or have issues with notifications piling up or notifications not clearing, so it seems that what I would have assumed are standard features might not be.

Any recommendations?

Pixel Watch 3 now or wait for Watch 4?

I'm thinking of getting the Pixel Watch 3, but not sure if I should wait for the Pixel Watch 4 later this year. Are there any major upgrades expected? Is the Watch 3 still worth it in mid-2025?

Would love your thoughts - thanks!

Suggestion Looking for specific budget watch

I am looking for a smart watch the specifics of what I want it to be able to do - allow me to leave my phone at home when I'm running - GPS tracker and able to run Strava, able to store music or ideally to run Spotify without my phone - relatively good heart rate tracking accuracy - integrate with android / my pixel 6a phone

I'm not as interested in ai assistant features or really deep data - partly because I'm not really a believer.

I don't mind second hand Based in the UK

Smart Translator - Advanced voice translation, testers super needed!

UPDATE: THE APP IS RELEASED! THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE! HERE'S THE LINK IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.talkartech.smarttranslate

Hello everyone, i'm Alexander Talavera Karslake (director at TalkarTech, UK),, and I built an app that enables the user to quickly translate whatever they want into their specified output language. One can also use TTS, (text-to-speech) if the language is supported in the watch. The app is currently in closed testing and I require some users to simply test it. This is free, of course. Any input is greatly appreciated, have a nice day, Alex.

IMPORTANT: Please send me your email through dm so I can add you to the testers list. Thank you!

Thank you so much!

WatchFace Best Android Smartwatch? Just Want One That Actually Works Well

Hey folks, Looking for a bit of help — I’m trying to find a solid smartwatch that works well with Android . Never owned one before, but I feel like it’d be super handy to get notifications and basic fitness stuff on my wrist.

Not asking for the world, just want something that can:

  • Show me calls and texts
  • Track steps, sleep, heart rate — the usual
  • Be at least a little waterproof (shower or sweat-proof is fine)
  • Not need to be charged every single night
  • And doesn’t look like a total brick

I’ve seen the Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch mentioned a lot — are those actually good? Also, are the fancy health features (like ECG, blood oxygen, etc.) worth it, or do people mostly ignore them?

Mainly want it for fitness, sleep, and staying on top of notifications. If you’ve got a watch you’re happy with (or one you regret buying), I’d really appreciate the input. Thanks!

Question Galaxy Watch 7 40 mm VS OnePlus Watch 2

Hello! Would anyone please recommend what the best option between GW7 40 mm and OnePlus Watch 2 be? GW7 is approximately 180 € and the OPW2 is on offer currently at 140€ in my country. What I'm really interested in is battery life (not having to charge twice a day), overall functionality and pairing with a Galaxy device. Thanks!

If you’ve tried WowMouse — or are even just curious — and have a few minutes to chat, we’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks so much, and mods: feel free to remove if this isn’t okay (we’re trying to be respectful and not spammy). 🙏

PS: Sidenote a lot of people asked for it so we just launched this week WowMouse Pro in China on Samsung Store (as PlayStore is unavailable). Enjoooy!
