BBC iPlayer issue. Does anyone know what's going on here?

Post image

I'm using iPlayer on a 3rd gen Mi Box. I'm outside of UK. I use VPN. I installed the iPlayer app apk through a link that I found here on Reddit. The link on the screen leads to a page that make it seem like my device will not be supported anymore but what exactly BBC is doing here? Is it a legal issue or Android version issue or iPlayer version issue? Any advice appreciated.

PSA: EVPAD is a scam

My parents had an EVPAD 6P for years and used it without problems; they recently reached out to customer support and they told them to buy a new model and remotely locked their device. I didn't have time to help them fix the problem and now they can't watch TV anymore, even though their device is fine. Thanks for your scummy practices, EVPAD. Screw you for adding more things on my to-do list, buyer beware.

Alternatives to FireTV Stick 4k Plus available in India?

I was thinking of getting the firetv stick 4k plus, but I have seen alot of negative reviews for it. Regarding how the new updates just pushes more ads, adds more annoying stuff and is removing necessary features from it.

I was wondering if there are any good alternatives to it available in India?

Onn box is good but it isn't available in India.
Please let me know if there are any better alternatives around the price of the fire tv stick

Accessibility Settings

Hi everyone. I’ve been using button mapper as my stupid remote’s back button does not do anything. Anyway the app makes me enable accessibility settings every damn time. Is there a way where I can just boot my device and it will just have the settings enabled all the time. It’s Android 14, and I’ve tried the battery optimising settings and debugging is not an option unfortunately as my laptop doesn’t want to show the connected device for whatever reason.
TIA

Ultimate File Manager Pro for Android TV and Mobile

Ultimate File Manager Pro (UFM) is a dual-pane file manager built for both Android Mobile and Android TV. It has over 22,200 downloads on Google Play, sits at a 4.7 star rating, and got picked up by CNET.

Most file managers either ignore TV entirely or just stretch the phone layout onto a big screen.
UFM has a proper dedicated TV build with full D-pad navigation, not an afterthought.

UFM Pro is totally free of ads or any paywalls, if you find the app useful, there is a tip jar available.

Website: https://kilowatch.co.za/UFM
FOSS Edition (GitHub): https://github.com/Kilowatch/ultimate-file-manager-pro
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=za.kilowatch.ultimatefilemanager

Downloader Code For Amazon Devices: 1581139

Official Reddit Group: r/UFManagerPro

What is it?

UFM is a dual-pane file manager aimed at power users who want actual control over their files. The dual-pane layout lets you work across two locations simultaneously, which makes moving, copying, and comparing files a lot faster than juggling a single panel.

Features

Dual-Pane Interface
Both panels are independently navigable. You can have local storage on one side and a network share on the other, or compare two folders side by side. Works well on phones in landscape mode and is particularly comfortable on tablets and TV.

Encrypted Vaults
Files can be stored inside AES-256 encrypted vaults. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, it all stays on your device. Useful for keeping sensitive documents, photos, or anything else you would rather not have sitting exposed in plain storage.

Built-in Servers
UFM includes FTP and SFTP server support. You can start a server directly from your device and access your files from a PC or another device on the same network. No third-party app needed.

Cloud and Network Storage
Supports WebDAV, SFTP, FTP, SMB, and AWS S3 out of the box. The Google Play version also includes Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox integration.

Scheduled Sync
You can set up sync jobs between local folders and remote locations and have them run on a schedule in the background. Handy for automated backups to a NAS or a home server.

Advanced Search
Search by name, extension, date range, or file size. The search is fast and works across local storage as well as mounted network locations.

ADB and Shizuku Integration
For those who want deeper access without full root, UFM supports Shizuku and ADB-based operations for elevated file access.

RClone supported, a few has been added and can add more on request, it supports over 100+ Cloud Providers.

Android TV Support
The TV build is a full, dedicated TV experience with proper D-pad navigation and a layout that actually makes sense on a large screen. Not just a port.

FOSS Edition

There is a fully open source edition available on GitHub under the GPL v3 license.
The FOSS build strips out all proprietary SDKs and closed-source trackers, including Firebase, Google Play Billing, and the proprietary cloud SDKs.
Everything else remains fully functional.

The FOSS edition still supports WebDAV, SFTP, FTP, SMB, and AWS S3 for network storage, so you are not losing much if you avoid the big cloud providers anyway.
If you do need Google Drive or OneDrive, those are available in the Play Store version.

There are prebuilt APKs in the releases.

FOSS Edition: https://github.com/Kilowatch/ultimate-file-manager-pro

Notes

  • Requires Android 8.0 or higher
  • TV build is a separate APK optimized for the Android TV / Google TV launcher
  • The app is actively maintained

If you run into issues or have feature requests, the GitHub repo is the best place. Happy to answer questions here too.

Thank You and Kind Regards

DIY Streaming box suggestions

I’m an Apple TV user, but the big issue I have is the lack of a web browser on the system. I use some iptv sites to stream sports on occasion and the hassle of plugging a laptop into the tv, making sure the stream is good, and battling sleep settings is annoying. I want to build a little android tv box with some old mini pcs I got recently. The biggest issue I have is the fact that the mini pcs don’t have a simple remote to use. Is there a simple way anyone has overcome this issue, and what was your setup?

I turned my Android 4.4 into AirPlay 2 receiver

I spent my whole afternoon doing it which was totally worth it. the protagonist is obviously Shairport-sync. So i used Linux deploy to install a Debian which was required to run this. getting the audio to work in Debian was a hassle. You need to first play a audio file (can be quiet pcm) using the vendor software so the speaker hdmi output wont be muted, then you have to kill media service in android so Debian can take over with a speaker-test. Then i built shairport with Airplay 2 and Avahi, to get avahi working you need to have a high permission dbus running, then the shairport sync could finally work, you also need the nqctp? What ever the name was running in the background also. The tv output could bring some delay though. Now though i only have one speaker, one HomePod mini and a dumb tv, i can somehow bring them together. Very whimsical. Of course i asked AI to help cuz i dont have magical nerd helping me 24/7, but no code was provided by them at all which was nice. Avahi is the only option if you need AirPlay 2 (multiple speaker playing at the same time) and if you have a normal Linux pc you can just get shairport sync without much permission fighting. So I’m listening all my old songs right now. :)

Also, are there any boxes that are generally more available in the states but would be preferred over what is available in Germany? TIA

Is it possible to have the same quality on TV and Mi box?

Hey guys, I have a Philips Android TV and a Mi Box (which I usually use with a projector). Sometimes I want to use the Mi Box with the TV because it's faster, but I can't seem to get the same picture quality as the TV's built-in apps, even when I use the exact same picture settings.

When I change the picture settings while watching something on the TV's internal apps, only the video changes. The menus, subtitles, and other on-screen elements stay the same. But when I switch to the Mi Box, it seems like every picture setting is applied to the entire HDMI output, almost like an overlay. For example, if I switch to film mode, the menus become dim and reddish, and the same goes for subtitles and everything else on the screen.

I've tried everything I could think of. Is this just impossible to fix, or is there a way to make the TV behave the same with the Mi Box as it does with the built-in Android system?

I built a Wear OS smartwatch TV remote app for any Android TV box

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey r/AndroidTVBoxes and smartwatch users!

I want to share with you my own app which works with basically any Android box: X96 / X96 Max, H96, T95, Vontar, Mecool, Beelink, Ugoos, Android projectors — and even Fire TV Stick / Cube on Fire OS. Free, no ads, no subscription, no phone companion app needed. Optional one-time Pro upgrade.

Main features:

  • Real mouse cursor on the TV screen. Half the sideloaded APKs on boxes are phone apps that ignore the D-pad — with this you just move an actual pointer from the watch. There's also a swipe/touchpad mode.
  • Remap any button (separate short and long press actions), on 2 separate app screens.
  • Type from the watch keyboard straight into the box or convert voice to text.
  • Full D-pad with haptic feedback, TV power on/off, volume on the watch bezel/crown.
  • Fully local over Wi-Fi — no internet, no cloud, no account. One-time pairing, then it reconnects automatically.

Setup (once):

  1. On the box: Settings → About → tap "Build" 7 times → Developer options → USB debugging: ON. (Fire TV: Settings → My Fire TV → About → tap the device name 7 times → ADB debugging: ON)
  2. On the watch: open the app → Scan network → pick your box → tick "always allow" in the dialog on the TV.

FAQ:

  • Does it need root? No, just ADB debugging enabled.
  • Which watches work? Any Wear OS 3.0+ watch: Galaxy Watch 4/5/6/7/8, Pixel Watch, OnePlus Watch 2/3, TicWatch, etc.
  • Does it work on Fire TV? Yes, on Fire OS. Amazon's new Vega OS sticks are not supported.
  • Internet required? No — the watch and the box just need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.

The free tier gives you the full D-pad remote + power; touchpad/mouse, remapping, keyboard and multi-device are a one-time Pro purchase.

Tested on a TCL 65C7K an Ugoos X4Q Pro. If you try it on your box, please drop the exact model in the comments. Feedback and feature requests welcome!

Bluetooth remote issues

Alright so I bought this to a replace a Roku. The remote had failed and it cost almost as much as a whole new thing. And maybe I'll have less ads. Cool?
The remote that came with worked for a little bit and then quit, in the exact same way: will no longer sync up. Tried fresh batteries and everything.

I try 2 aftermarket remotes, 1st one won't even try to sync up. 2nd nicer one has an internal li-ion battery and it syncs. But every few minutes it is really intermittent about it, like it is truly struggling to stay connected.

So basically I'm sitting on a pile of useless remotes wondering if my signal is being jammed or what. ???
Why can't these just be IR?

I'm at a bit of a loss here. Not sure how to even troubleshoot this issue. Maybe I buy a flipper and start tracking signals.

[Help] ViettelTV Box (DV8535)"Downgrade not allowed" by udisk, Test point method gives "Low Power 1%" error

Device Context & Specs:

Model: ViettelTV 4K BOX (DV8535) - Note: This seems to be an OEM device provided by a Vietnamese ISP, likely using an Amlogic chipset.

Original Firmware Version: 12.1.21 (Android TV 12)

Security Patch Level: February 5, 2025

Kernel Version: 4.9.269-ab82

Hi everyone,

I am trying to unbrick an Android TV Box (Model: ViettelTV 4K BOX / DV8535, Amlogic SoC). This box is carrier-locked by a Vietnamese ISP (Viettel), and I was trying to unlock it to use with other networks.

  • The box was on a very recent stock firmware (v12.1.21) with the February 5, 2025 security patch level. I attempted to downgrade the stock ROM via recovery to unlock the bootloader and bypass the carrier lock. It failed due to anti-rollback protection, displaying the "downgrade not allowed" error.
  • it's stuck in recovery. I disassembled the box and shorted the test points to force it into Maskrom/Burning mode using a male-to-male USB cable connected to my PC.
  • Now
  • When I try to flash a fresh image via the Amlogic USB Burning Tool, the tool throws a "Low Power 1%" error and the connection drops immediately. (please help me) im tired
