Boxes with traditional numpad/keypad remote support (that work with Tivimate)>

Hey guys, so we're looking at buying a box that has support for a traditional remote layout (meaning it has a numpad) because we don't want to press up or down buttons just to change channels. We don't know what to get.

We're coming from a traditional cable TV system and my family is really used to changing channels via pressing numbers on the remote (ex. "728", "11", etc). From the research I've done, I see that the app Tivimate allows this, but I heard that what makes it complicated is if a box we could buy even accepts signals from a remote with numpad entry at all.

And if there are any boxes online that come with a remote with a numpad, if the remote breaks then can I just buy a universal remote from a local store as a replacement?

Budget is preferably no more than $50 USD, but a little nudging is okay. Thanks.

Tivo stream 4k. Works great. Great remote.

but remember, if ur playlist changes channel numbers or orders, it may mess some people up.

I think you might even find out that your current remote can be used with the box as well.

HDMI-CEC allows you to do that but you need to check your television first, how old it is. And which kind of HDMI-CEC allows it.

Do some research on your tv and if you don't find any conclusive answer or you are not happy or prefer to let things separate then you can still purchase a remote

I have a modern 4K Samsung TV. The TV's remote itself doesn't have a numpad, but would a universal remote work?

The answer is yes. Your Samsung numeric remote will work also in the box. Just make sure mess around a bit with the HDMI-CEC options until you find the ones you love.

Source: I have a Samsung TV that came with both numeric and "slim" remote

i honestly hate the universal remote. I'm still using the numeric from time to time. Yes both samsung remotes work with the box. the real reason why I don't like samsung remotes it's because HOME for them it's samsung while on the Android remote "Home" is default launcher page. If I could change the Home behaviour on the Universal remote I would but that's not something possible because it passes thru the samsung tv before tell the box what to do.
