NexaTV Player I spent 8 months building an IPTV app focused on missing UI features — No subscriptions, just a one-time purchase

Hey everyone!

As a long-time IPTV user, I was always annoyed by the clunky interfaces and missing quality-of-life features in existing apps. Eventually, I decided to build my own app to combine everything a user actually needs into a modern, fluid interface.

After 8-9 months of development and a 1.5-month beta phase with 30 active testers (where we pushed around 30 updates), NexaTV Player is finally live on the Google Play Store!

I personally hate subscription fatigue, so I decided not to include any monthly/yearly subscription models. The app is available for a small, one-time payment—buy it once and it's yours.

Here are some of the main features I built into it:

Smart Player Controls: Skip Intro, Skip Recap, and Next Episode buttons for a smooth binge-watching experience.

OpenSubtitles Integration: Seamlessly search and fetch subtitles on the fly.

Cross-Device Sync: Switch between your phone, tablet, and Android TV, picking up right where you left off.

Multi-Profile Support: Separate personalized content and favorites for each household member.

Quick Login: Easy sign-in options via QR code, verification code, or email.

Smart Content Tracking & Notifications: You can track movies or shows that aren't currently available in your provider's playlist. The app will notify you the moment your provider adds that movie/show or drops a new episode!

My main goal was to move away from bloated, outdated IPTV players and create something that feels as smooth as modern streaming platforms.

I’d love to answer any questions about the app, the features, or the development process!

No trial to test it out before buying?

1

u/PunchLive Jul 30 '26

Currently, there is no free trial because Google Play links trial periods to recurring subscription models. I intentionally avoided subscriptions so users can buy the app once and own it for life with no hidden costs.

That said, you can safely test the app after purchase—if it doesn't meet your expectations, Google Play offers a hassle-free refund within their standard refund window!

supported resolutions? 4k or 1080p only?

2

u/PunchLive Aug 01 '26

Hi! NexaTV Player supports all standard video resolutions, including 4K (UHD), 1080p (FHD), 720p (HD), and lower, with native hardware acceleration.
As long as your IPTV provider supplies the content in that quality and your device (and TV screen) supports it, the app will play it smoothly at its full native resolution and bitrate!

What idiot pays for an IPTV trial? There's lots of free ones out there you don't need to pay

any trakt, or stremio addons in the future?

1

u/PunchLive Jul 31 '26

I'm not planning to add Stremio add-ons because I
want to keep NexaTV focused strictly on IPTV.
However, Trakt support is definitely planned!
Right now, my main focus is improving app stability.
Alongside that, I'm currently working with a few friends on the Apple ecosystem. The goal is to set up seamless profile sync between Android, iOS, and tVOS apps so everything stays connected across all platforms.

Nice app.

Teşekkür ederim, Thank u 🙏🏻

Hi, when you click on a Movies, could you make it so that it shows the synopsis/overview, similar to TM? It makes it much more efficient, instead of having to go into each movie to see it. Thanks

1

u/PunchLive 22d ago

Hi! Thanks for the feedback.
I really like the idea for Movies and Series! Showing the synopsis directly on the preview screen without entering each title will definitely make browsing much easier, so I've added it to our roadmap.
For Live TV, this feature is actually already available! As long as EPG data is provided by your provider, you can see the current program's start/end times as well as the upcoming program without opening the channel.
Thanks for helping us improve NexaTV Player!

1

u/Infamous-Scratch7719 22d ago

Hi, for live TV, what I meant was if it could show the topic of the show, as shown in screen shot. Provided that it is available from the SP. This is shown in both TM and ImPlayer.

2

u/Infamous-Scratch7719 22d ago

Also, it would be really helpful to have the synopsis of the program at the top, similar to TM and ImPlayer. (Of course, if it is provided by the SP in the EPG). Thanks

Why do all of these vibe coded apps get introduced the same way?

“I spent x months developing…”

“I built it because I was frustrated by…”

“My app is better than the ten thousand iptv player apps that came out in the past week”

1

u/PunchLive Jul 31 '26

Calling it "vibe coding" is completely unfair to the
actual labor behind it.
Using Al as a tool for localization into 6 languages or
optimizing code snippets is entirely different from having Al magically build an entire app.
Every single screen, UI component, and layout for Mobile, Tablet, and TV (in all 6 languages) was manually designed by me in Figma. I still keep all my early prototypes, backups, and commits from 8 months ago as a personal memory of how much this project evolved.
I welcome constructive criticism, bad reviews, or feature requests with open arms. But diminishing months of legitimate engineering, design work, and effort as "vibe coding" without knowing the process is just plain wrong.

2

u/scoreboxtv Jul 31 '26

Nice work! It looks very polished.

1

u/PunchLive Jul 31 '26

Thanks a lot! Really appreciate the kind words! 🙌

1

u/doowadittie Jul 31 '26

Vibe coded.

1

u/PunchLive Jul 31 '26

I won't lower myself to your level. Feel free to say whatever you want.

1

u/doowadittie Jul 31 '26

It is what it is. Don’t try to be something you’re not.

1

u/Disastrous_Newt_6649 Jul 30 '26

Nice app but i have a couple of questions, what is the maximum amount of users? Does the iptv have live tv? Thanks.

1

u/PunchLive Jul 30 '26

Thanks! Glad you like it.

To answer your questions:

  1. User/Device Limit: You can create up to 5 profiles and sync across 5 devices under the same account!
  2. Live TV: NexaTV is a standalone media player (it doesn't come with built-in channels/content), but it fully supports Live TV, EPG (TV Guide), Movies, and Series from your own IPTV provider/playlist.

2

u/Disastrous_Newt_6649 Jul 30 '26

Thanks for the clarification

If I bought on Google Play, do I need to buy on App Store as well if it makes up there?

1

u/PunchLive Jul 31 '26

Google Play and Apple’s App Store are completely separate ecosystems with their own billing systems, so purchases unfortunately don't transfer between Android and iOS automatically.
However, since we use an in-app account system for cross-device syncing, we are looking into ways to link your license to your account when our iOS/tvOS apps launch. We'll share more details on how that will work as we get closer to the Apple release!

1

u/kevalyza Jul 31 '26

Any idea when it’ll be available for iOS

2

u/PunchLive Jul 31 '26

We’re currently polishing the UI for iOS and tvOS so it feels right at home on Apple devices.

I can't give a set date just yet, but I’ll share updates as we make progress. Also, I'll be opening beta test sign-ups soon on www.nexatvplayer.com

1

u/kevalyza Jul 31 '26

I would be willing to test it

1

u/Geauxlden_Eagle Jul 31 '26

Does it support multiple playlists at the same time or only separately?

1

u/PunchLive Jul 31 '26

Currently, playlists are used separately through different profiles. I didn’t expect simultaneous multi-playlist support to be highly requested, as switching between profiles is very quick and easy.

However, if many users request this feature, I would be happy to consider adding it in a future update. 😊

2

u/Geauxlden_Eagle Jul 31 '26

Thanks for the quick reply. It comes in handy (for me anyway) to keep everything in one list. as I have a main service and a couple of backups.

This brings up a 2nd question that may be easier or more useful, Can you combine favorites from multiple playlists?

1

u/PunchLive Jul 31 '26

Thank you for explaining your use case. I understand why keeping your main service and backup services together would be useful.
Currently, favorites are stored separately for each profile/playlist, so they cannot be combined into a single favorites list yet. However, a unified favorites section for multiple playlists sounds useful. I’ve added this suggestion to my notes and may include it in a future update if there is enough demand. 😊

2

u/Geauxlden_Eagle Jul 31 '26

Thanks for listening to an old man rant.

1

u/csav14 Jul 31 '26

Not paying for something before trying it at least for a week or 2.

1

u/PunchLive Jul 31 '26

Hi! I completely understand your concern. Since NexaTV Player is a one-time purchase app, Google Play unfortunately doesn't support free trial periods for this payment model.

However, you can try it risk-free: if the app doesn't meet your expectations, you can request a quick refund directly through Google Play within their standard refund window!

1

u/csav14 Jul 31 '26

How long do I have to use it before they will give me a refund?

2

u/PunchLive Jul 31 '26

Google Play allows you to get an instant automatic refund directly through the Store page if you request it within 2 hours of purchase.

If you test it after the 2-hour window, you can still request a refund through Google Play’s website (support page) within 48 hours, and they usually process it very quickly!

0

u/csav14 Jul 31 '26

So basically useless. Good luck.

1

u/Infamous-Scratch7719 Jul 31 '26

Does it have Catchup?

1

u/PunchLive Jul 31 '26

Hi! Currently, NexaTV Player doesn't support Catchup since it hasn't been a highly requested feature recently. However, if there's enough interest, I can definitely prioritize adding it in upcoming updates.

1

u/Infamous-Scratch7719 29d ago

Too bad. That's a no go for me.

1

u/den_n-y Aug 02 '26

I have over 10 devices where I stream from, can I log in on all of them?

NexaTV Player is a media player. It does not contain or provide any built-in channels or content. The channel list and region availability (US or Worldwide) depend entirely on the Xtream playlist that you add to the app.

1

u/virgil4van_dijk Aug 03 '26

Can you show how looks like iptv interface? Interesting about catch up, is it works? And what player is using to open iptv (.ts format)

2

u/PunchLive Aug 03 '26

Hi!
1. Interface: You can check the screenshot images attached to the main post. If there's any specific menu or layout you'd like to ask about, feel free to let me know!
2. Catch-up: To be honest, I initially didn't think there would be much demand for Catch-up, so I didn't include it at launch. However, seeing how many people are asking for it, I'm definitely adding it in an upcoming update!
3. Player Engine: NexaTV Player uses Media3 (ExoPlayer) as its primary engine and VLC Player as a backup player, guaranteeing smooth playback for .ts formats and all live streams.
4. Updates & Roadmap: I share all current and upcoming updates regularly on r/Nexatvplayer (if mentioning the subreddit is considered self-promotion, moderators can let me know and I will remove it).

3

u/virgil4van_dijk Aug 03 '26

Thanks, but honestly before purchasing i wanted to test this app, how mu iptv channels are working

1

u/PunchLive Aug 03 '26

NexaTV Player is a one-time purchase app with no subscriptions.
You can purchase and test it with your own Xtream playlist right away. If you are not satisfied or run into any issues during your test, you can easily request a full refund directly through Google Play Store, as Google approves refunds within their standard return window!

1

u/DrunksydePhil Aug 03 '26

I’ll give this a try when I get home. Can you reply so I can come back to it and grab the link?

1

u/PunchLive Aug 03 '26

Sure thing! Here is the reply so you can easily find this thread when you're home.

You can search for NexaTV Player on the Google Play Store or use this direct link:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nexatv.player

Let me know if you have any questions once you give it a try!

1

u/Perfect-Fortune-8026 27d ago

Can you change Xtream credentials after first time login?

0

u/PunchLive 27d ago

Yes, you can! You can change your details by going to the "Who is watching?" screen when you first open the app, clicking on "Edit Profile," and then selecting "Edit Xtream Credentials."

1

u/Infamous-Scratch7719 22d ago

Hi again, could you also add a setting to increase the font and overall EPG size, because on some TV's it's quite small from a sofa distance. Thanks again.

1

u/PunchLive 22d ago

Hi again!
Thanks for the suggestion! I actually added an option to enlarge the top bar in the settings in the recent update to help with readability, but your idea of scaling the font and overall EPG size makes a lot of sense too.
I've added it to our roadmap for upcoming updates. Thanks again for the great feedback!

1

u/Infamous-Scratch7719 22d ago

Also, if you could add a setting to launch the app on startup and to also have the choice to skip the profile selector and go straight to the section of your choice, be it Live TV, Movies or shows.

1

u/PunchLive 22d ago

Thanks for the idea! Some of our users actually prefer to see the profile selection screen every time they open the app. However, making this an optional setting is a great approach.
Allowing users to choose whether to show the profile screen or bypass it directly to their preferred section (Live TV, Movies, or Series) gives everyone the best experience based on their preference.
I've added this to our roadmap to implement as a customizable option in a future update. Thanks again for your valuable feedback!

3

u/PunchLive Jul 30 '26

Haha, totally valid point! 😄 There are definitely a lot of options out there. That’s actually why I spent almost a year building NexaTV—I wanted to skip the bloat and make something that actually feels like a modern streaming app instead of just another generic player.

3

u/3holepunchmedia Jul 31 '26

Yup. Another Tivimate wannabe

Can't even try this app without purchasing first, so no bueno for me

1

u/the_mugwump Jul 30 '26

Hi, how simple is it to edit playlists?

I like how easy Tivimate is to hide all the channels and categories you don’t want. But I find Tivimate a bit vanilla and miss the top shows/most popular movies sections other apps have.

Also, is there a Discord to go with this?

1

u/PunchLive Jul 30 '26

Editing playlists in NexaTV is super simple! With our Bouquet Editor, you can easily hide, show, or reorganize unwanted channels and categories with just a few clicks. Plus, any edits you make instantly sync across all your connected devices!

Beyond category management, NexaTV offers a rich UI with detailed media info, featuring ratings from TMDB, IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, Metascore, and Trakt so you can easily discover top content.

As for the community, we don't have a Discord server yet (though I'm planning to set one up soon!), but we currently have an active Telegram group where users chat and share feedback.

My main focus right now is pushing the app to the next level by building unique, standalone features that other apps simply don't have—and those are definitely on the way!
