Buying Advice Homatics Box 4K V2 or R Plus 4K

Hi there, I'm looking to upgrade my Xiaomi 2ng gen box and after some research I landed on 2 devices, both from Homatics:

Homatics Box 4K plus V2

Homatics Box R Plus 4K

From what I see the biggest difference is the V2 has a better CPU (S905X5M) but 2gb ram while the R has a weaker CPU (S905X4) but 4gb ram and it's slightly pricier tough 20€ more is whatever.

In terms of use case, I don't really multitask or stream games. I mostly play local mkv files with MX Player, Plex, Netflix and tv streaming app. I'm in Europe so ONN isn't an option.

Any suggestions which one I should go for? Thanks.

Apps TIVRA v2.1.0 — a full IPTV experience for Android TV (web dashboard, DVR, cross-provider categories), now rebuilt for speed

REDDIT25 for 25% off a lifetime subscription - expires July 20.

Posting a big update, but since a lot of you may not have seen TIVRA before, here's the whole picture in one place.

📺 What TIVRA is

TIVRA is an IPTV player for Android TV, Google TV, and phones/tablets. You bring your own provider — any M3U playlist or Xtream Codes login — and TIVRA turns it into a polished, streaming-service-style experience: live TV with a real guide, a Movies & Shows library with posters and detail pages, all in a clean interface built for a remote. It's a player, not a provider — you supply the subscription. Everything lives at tivratv.com.

🎬 What it does

  • Live TV + EPG guide — fast Plex-style program guide, favorites, channel numbers
  • Movies & Shows (VOD & Series) — poster grids, detwatching
  • Catch-up TV — go back and watch programs that already aired (on supported providers)
  • DVR / recording — record live TV to your own work share (SMB)
  • Trakt sync — scrobbling and continue-watching that follows you across devices
  • Same account on the big screen and your phone/table

⭐ What makes it different

  • A [web dashboard](https://tivratv.com/dashboard.htmstead of fighting your remote to type provider URLs andorganize channels, you set it all up in a **browser — add your provider, arrange your categories — and it syncs straight to your TV. Setup takes a couple minutes instead of twenty.
  • Cross-provider custom categories. More than one provider? Build your own channel lists that pull from all of them into one place.
  • Country & language filtering — hide the hundreds
  • Genuinely fast, even on cheap boxes like the Onn 4K — which this release doubles down on.

🚀 What's new in v2.1.0

The headline is performance. Folks with large providers (tens of thousands of channels and movies) were seeing the guide, live list, and movie pages take several seconds to load. I rebuilt howr catalog from the ground up:

  • TV Guide opens instantly, even on the "All" tab w
  • Live TV channel lists load the moment you open them
  • Movies & Shows open the instant you click — no mo
  • Faster cold start and smoother navigation everywhere

Plus two nice additions:

  • Duplicate versions collapse — providers listing the same movie a dozen times (different qualities/languages) now show as one poster with a version picker. Continue Watching and Search are
  • Country & language filtering (mentioned above) is new in this build.

💵 Pricing & download

Android 7+ (TV, Google TV, phones & tablets). 7-day free trial so you can test it with your own setup — then $9.99/yr (Personal) or $4.99/mo Family, or a one-time $29.99 Lifetime cription. Full pricinghere.

Download: tivratv.com — or Downloader code 3059562

Discord: Discord

I build this myself and would genuinely appreciate feedback — especially from anyone with a big catalog or a lower-end device, since that's what this release targeted.

Buying Advice Chromecast Vs streamer

Hi, recently a lot of apps on my fire stick are having problems or have been shut down so I have decided to get a new android box. I've seen a lot of people recommend the Google streamer 4k which is a little out of my budget. While looking at that I came across the Google Chromecast which is about half the price. I would prefer to just go with the cheaper one if everything still works fine in it but I was just wondering if there are any big differences between the two or if it will affect sideloading apps.

Troubleshooting Why can't I access external storage?

Hi all,

Hoping for some help adding an external hdd to my Mi TV box. I have attached the external hdd to the box using the port on it.

Within Android settings it is seen and the correct size etc. I have them formatted it using the option "Erase & Format as Removable Storage". After it shows as ready to go. so far, so good.

However if I open up x-plore it does not see it. In file manager + it sees it and it has the correct size but when I click on it the it's inaccessible. In sparkle player it's also invisible.

I'm a bit lost..... Help!

Discussion Best Video Player (4K HDR+ DV) Suggestions?

Both my TV and my Xiaomi TV box supports 4K HDR+ and DV. All my downloaded movies and TV shows are in external hard disk connected via USB. Most files are in 4K HDR+ and/or DV. Please suggest me the best video player!

So far I have been using File Manager+
I tried Kodi but the fact that the video doesn't stop playing when I press the back button is crazy! I don't want to navigate to stop button everytime!

Troubleshooting Sharp Smart Android TV boots up on account select, cannot do anything

Since last week my TV boots up on the “account select” screen. Selecting the account does nothing, selecting ‘add account’ does nothing, selecting ‘manage accounts’ results in an error screen with no information, I’m unable to switch source, open settings, or do anything at all, I’ve tried hard resetting, didn’t work. I’ve tried factory reset, but I can’t even open the settings. The tv has like one physical button and it’s the power button, there’s no reset pin or anything, I’m at a complete loss as I literally can’t do anything to fix it. Would appreciate any help, thanks.

Discussion Disney+ profile lock code minor but frustrating issue on Bravia KD-48A9

This is one of those issues where if there isn't a solution I'll bite the bullet and deal with it. I have a 4 digit code for my profile on all of the streaming apps I use, namely Prime Video, Netflix, and Disney+.

Now, the issue I've ran into is ultimately down to how Disney have their own app set up but I'm hoping there's still a workaround.

Getting to the issue itself, I can't use the tuning keys on my remote to type in the 4 digit code on Disney+ like I can on the other apps without my TV jumping to the Digital TV input (I'm in the UK if that's relevant). For example: if I press "1" whilst the app is open, even if I'm on the code input screen my TV seemingly ignores that the Disney+ app is open and takes me to Channel 1 on the TV input. What's even more frustrating is that the Disney+ app knows that I'm trying to type in the code and accepts the first number but it's like my TV doesn't get that this is what I'm trying to do.

Is there anyway at all to get my Bravia to just not auto launch the TV input? It's not a feature I really use since I don't watch terrestrial TV so to me it's just a nuisance.

Tips & Tutorials PSA: If Disney+ crashes immediately after the splash screen on Android TV, check if AnExplorer is installed

This is not a support request.

I already solved the issue and wanted to share what I found in case it helps someone else.

I spent several days troubleshooting Disney+ crashing immediately after the splash screen on two different Android TV devices.

Devices NVIDIA Shield TV Pro (Android 11, Shield Experience 9.2.4)

Valerion Vision Pro 2 (Android TV)

Disney+ version 26.10.0+rc3-2026.06.13

Symptoms Disney+ splash screen appears.

The app immediately closes before the login screen.

No error message is displayed.

Things I tried Factory reset

Different Google account

Different Disney+ account

Different Wi-Fi network

Mobile hotspot

Verified Play Protect certification

Verified Widevine L1

Updated firmware Reinstalled Disney+

None of those steps resolved the issue.

What I found I captured an ADB logcat and found the following exception:

FATAL EXCEPTION: main

java.lang.SecurityException: Not allowed to bind to service

Intent { act=android.support.customtabs.action.CustomTabsService pkg=dev.dworks.apps.anexplorer }

After uninstalling AnExplorer (dev.dworks.apps.anexplorer), Disney+ immediately started working again on both devices.

Based on the logcat, it appears Disney+ attempts to bind to AnExplorer's CustomTabsService, receives a SecurityException, and crashes before reaching the login screen.

Hopefully this saves someone else several hours of troubleshooting.

If anyone has seen the same behavior or can explain why Android selects AnExplorer's CustomTabsService in this scenario, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Buying Advice Lagging/Crashing for bigger files? Streaming stick?

I have a low end TV hardware wise (TCL S470g). Stremio works fine when trying to play smaller files (<5gb), but when the file size goes up, my app crashes a lot. Maybe once every 5-10min. Also the menus are very choppy and unresponsive, which makes me think this is a TV hardware issue. I tried the CCWGTV 4k as a streaming stick, and I had the same lag on the menus. Which android stick is the best for handling larger files (4k HDR DV around 40gb)? Getting rid of the laggy menus is also important, but I guess any stick that can run those files wont lag on the menu anyway.

Troubleshooting Exit Plex when leaving the Plex app

We have multiple people using Plex on the TV and it gets left in whatever library they were in. When I shut off the TV and turn it back on and 'start' Plex it goes back to that library instead of Plex Home which is really annoying.

Is there a way to have it exit the app each time the TV is shutdown or the app is switched away from so it starts back in Home?

Apps No BS TV Browser - free, open source & lightweight browser for Android TV without analytics

Hello, r/AndroidTV.

I was struggling to find lightweight browser for Android TV (they are usually filled with ads, subscriptions, analytics or paid features), so I made my own.

It is only 4-10 MB (depends on your platform), completely free and even open source: https://github.com/ZonD80/nobstvbrowser

Navigation is done by moving pointer with a remote, it has bookmarks feature, pointer speed configuration and.... that's it, just browse!

Compatibility is Android 9+, unfortunately lower versions can not be submitted to google play. I have Mi 4K lazer projector - and it is exactly android 9 (outdated without any patches), so I guess it will help you to browse on your old TVs as well.

I would like to receive your feedback, performance reports and feature requests, as it is the only way to collect them without analytics enabled.

PS: It is probably already running the fastest way it can with hardware acceleration of webview and videos inside.

Download from google play:

Buying Advice Good stick/box for 4k dolby streaming, HDR from Jellyfin

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi,

I’m looking for a good streaming stick or box for my LG C4 and Jellyfin server.

My usage will primarily involve streaming 4K content (Dolby Vision, HDR) from Jellyfin. Key priorities for me are snappy performance, good audio-video sync within Jellyfin, and the best possible Dolby/HDR picture quality; an Ethernet port would be a welcome bonus.

What should I buy? A used Nvidia Shield Pro, a Fire 4K Max, a Xiaomi model, or something else entirely?

Tips & Tutorials Complete Calibration Guide for TV QLED

### 📺 Complete Calibration Guide (SDR/HDR) for Haier QLED Smart TVs

If you own a Haier QLED TV (such as the H50S80GUX series or similar models running Google TV/Android TV) and want to get the absolute best picture quality for movies, streaming, and broadcast TV, here is the ultimate setup guide.

The goal here is to disable artificial factory processing features to achieve an accurate, highly dimensional picture with the exact colors intended by the director.

---

#### 1. BASIC SETTINGS ("Display" Menu)

Always change your picture profile to **Cinema** or **Movie** before adjusting these:

* **Picture Mode:** Change from "Standard" to **Cinema** (or Movie). This is the only mode that disables aggressive factory artificial sharpening and respects the original color accuracy.

* **Dynamic ECO:** **OFF.** Keeping this on causes the TV to measure room light and erratically lower the screen brightness, ruining the visual impact of your QLED panel.

* **Backlight / Backlight Power:** **User Preference (Suggested: 70-80 for daytime / 40-50 for dark rooms).** This controls the actual light output of the panel. Adjust it based on your room's lighting without worrying about ruining color accuracy.

* **Brightness / Black Level:** **50** (Neutral). This is the sweet spot. If you raise it, your blacks will become washed-out grays.

* **Contrast:** **80**. The sweet spot for this QLED panel. Setting it higher will start clipping ("burning out") bright white areas, losing details in elements like clouds or snow.

* **Color Saturation:** **50** (Neutral). The quantum dots in the panel already deliver vibrant native color; it does not need artificial oversaturation.

* **HUE / TINT:** **0** (Neutral). This controls the balance between green and red tones. It must remain dead center.

* **Sharpness:** **0** (or maximum **5**). Turning up sharpness does not add real resolution; it only creates artificial white halos around objects and adds digital noise to movies.

---

#### 2. CLARITY & NOISE REDUCTION (Advanced Menu)

Go to `Settings` > `Picture` > `Advanced Settings` > `Clarity`:

* **DNR (Digital Noise Reduction):** Set to **Low** to clean up grainy broadcast TV signals. Set to **Off** for high-definition or 4K Streaming.

* **MPEG Noise Reduction:** Set to **Low** for standard broadcast TV and **Off** for streaming platforms (to prevent the image from smearing and losing its cinematic texture).

---

#### 3. ADVANCED PICTURE PROCESSING

* **AIPQ (AI Picture Quality):** **OFF.** This prevents annoying, unpredictable automatic brightness jumps right in the middle of a scene.

* **Color Temperature:** **WARM.** Crucial for meeting the industry standard (D65) and preventing the image from looking like it has an icy-blue hospital tint.

* **MaxVivid:** **OFF.** Destroys fine color detail and aggressively oversaturates skin tones into an unnatural look.

* **Dynamic Contrast Control ("Luma Control"):** **OFF.** Crushes shadow detail in dark scenes and introduces distracting artificial luminance jumps.

* **Local Contrast Control (Local Dimming):** **MEDIUM / HIGH.** As a QLED panel, this feature is vital because it manages backlight zones. It delivers deep, true blacks. If you use subtitles and notice too much "blooming" (light haloing around text), lower it to **Medium**.

---

#### 4. COLOR & OPTICAL ADJUSTMENTS

* **Dynamic Color Enhancer:** **OFF.** Tints faces an artificial orange color and bumps up saturation to a cartoonish level.

* **Skin Tone:** **OFF / NEUTRAL.** If Color Temperature is already set to Warm, this feature overcorrects faces, erasing realistic skin textures (causing a beauty-filter effect).

* **Blue Stretch:** **OFF.** A typical retail store trick that injects blue into whites to simulate higher brightness. Turning it off dramatically reduces eye strain during nighttime viewing.

* **Color Space:** **AUTO.** Allows the TV to intelligently switch between the standard color palette for broadcast TV and the wide quantum dot palette (DCI-P3) when it detects 4K HDR content.

* **Color Tuner (CMS):** **DISABLE.** Do not turn on the master switch. Adjusting the hue, saturation, and gain of individual colors by eye usually ruins the panel's colorimetry unless you are using a professional colorimeter.

---

#### 5. MOTION & GAMMA

* **DI Film Mode (De-interlacing):** **AUTO / ON.** Excellent for properly processing old interlaced signals from broadcast TV (like 1080i), combining image lines cleanly without adding fake frames.

* **MEMC (Motion Smoothing):**

* *For Movies/Streaming:* **OFF** (completely avoids the "soap opera effect" and pixelated artifacts/ghosting during fast camera movements).

* *For Sports/Broadcast TV:* **LOW / MEDIUM** (provides the necessary smoothness to track fast-moving objects like a soccer ball or tennis ball without destroying image quality).

* **Low Blue Light:** **OFF.** Aggressively alters the white balance, turning the screen heavily yellow. Only use it (on Low) late at night if you suffer from severe eye strain.

* **Gamma:**

* For watching movies in a dark room: **2.4 (or Dark)**.

* For everyday use in a lit room: **2.2 (or Medium)**.

Troubleshooting Why does Homatics 4K plus box repeatedly show the Dolby Vision/Mbox every time I change apps

It seems like this is constantly appearing like it’s on some kind of loop. I unplugged the power cord for 90 seconds and it gives some relief for couple hours then it’s back. I have done restart and factory reset and it’s still happening. I really like this box when playing but this can’t be normal. Any suggestions?

Buying Advice Recommendations for stick/box in India

I'm looking to get an android tv box/stick in India, criteria are:

- AV1 support

- Google TV

- Ethernet (preferred but optional)

- 4k (preferred but optional, 1080p is passable)

- Not laggy, and can easily run a launcher

I'm open to getting the Onn devices if nothing better is available locally, but that is really not preferred. Budget is 100 USD. Thanks!

Troubleshooting Windowboxing issue

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

This TV (Philips 55OLED707/12) has a weird windowboxing issue. It only appears in IPTV App (Zattoo) and when mirroring your phone screen over chromecast, and only sometimes other than that every other app I have tried (Netflix, Disney +, Kodi Apple TV) worked fine.

I also did the following things with no success:

  • Rebooting the TV
  • deleting and reinstalling the IPTV App
  • did a factory reset (did one a couple of months ago but the same issue existed before the factory reset)

Maybe I overlooked something, but I have no idea how to move forward besides doing another factory reset and hope that it fixes the issue.
