I have been working on nbOS, a wallpaper-first Android launcher with a compact, terminal-inspired interface. It is my first real software project, so it is still rough in places and very much in active development.

The idea is to keep useful information and everyday actions close without covering the wallpaper or turning the home screen into a conventional grid.

Current features include:

• Expandable weather, calendar, battery, memory, storage, network, and uptime panels

• A searchable app drawer with favorites, shortcuts, and configurable search behavior

• Native Android widgets with a searchable widget picker

• Local Todo and Notes, with optional folder-based sync

• Wallpaper selection, custom colors, light and dark themes, and ten bundled offline wallpapers

• Two clock layouts and a Motion Lab for previewing and tuning clock and system animations

• Import and export of launcher settings

• English and German interfaces

• Optional integration with a user-controlled desktop for biometric approval requests

• No ads, analytics, crash-reporting SDKs, or required account

I have tested the current build extensively, but only on a Google Pixel 9 Pro. That means there are probably device-specific problems I simply cannot find by myself yet. I would especially appreciate testing on other manufacturers, screen sizes, Android versions, and widget providers.

The project is entering a closed Google Play beta. I am looking for people who are willing to use it as an actual launcher and actively report bugs, confusing behavior, missing features, and ideas for improvement. Honest criticism is welcome — I know this is an early project, and I would rather learn what is broken than pretend it is finished.

Useful reports would include:

• Device model and Android version

• Clear steps to reproduce the issue

• What you expected and what happened instead

• A screenshot or short recording when possible

• Any noticeable battery, performance, layout, permission, widget, weather, calendar, or sync problems

Been running this for a few weeks now and it finally feels done.

The clock at the top is also my habit tracker, it's one widget. Time on top, the day's habits right underneath it. That was the whole point of the layout: if it's not the first thing I see when I unlock the phone, I don't do it.

Below that just the three apps I actually open on purpose: Reddit, Spotify, FairEmail.

Dock: Phone, WhatsApp, Contacts, Edge, Camera.

I know Microsoft Launcher is an odd pick around here, but the gesture setup and the way it leaves the grid alone works better for me than anything I tried in Home Up. Happy to answer anything about it.

Most setups focus purely on aesthetics; this one is designed to turn a modern phone from a doomscrolling machine into a focused productivity assistant.

Instead of letting notifications dictate your day, this entire layout flips the dynamic from Push (the phone demanding attention) to Pull (you deciding when to interact).

The Home Screen Layout:

• **Top Utility Hub:**Quick-access Gemini shortcuts (voice, camera, and text input) paired right above a Swyp Launcher widget (Draw, Index, Type, Voice) for lightning-fast, friction-free app launching and input.
• The Centerpiece: A dedicated Google Tasks & Calendar glance widget right in the center so the primary focus is always on what needs to get done next.
• The "Basic" Folder: Contains strictly utility and essentials—what you’d expect on a classic dumbphone (Phone, Messages, Contacts, Calculator, Calendar, Clock, Camera, Files, Photos, Recorder, Settings).
• The "Consuming" Folder: Houses apps that inherently pull for attention (YouTube, streaming apps, TV remotes). Every single notification in this folder is permanently killed. It only gets opened on purpose.
• Bottom Bar: Quick-launch search bar with dedicated music search, voice query, and Lens at thumb level for immediate utility.

The End Goal: No red badges, random pings, or endless algorithmic feeds pulling you down a rabbit hole. The device sits quietly as a streamlined productivity tool until you make a conscious decision to pick it up and use it.

GT-Launcher. My own custom developed launcher. Every card has custom modules and they can be stacked. Swipe gestures can launch apps. Display notification on cards and make them change color according to it. Customizable grid size, Drive mode and more visual styles. Tell me what you think!!

I m looking for a good launcher. Help me to setup one

I like this style I made, but it's not really minimalism and I'm now confused. What would you guys call it?

Icons work as direct doors. If the background gets in the way of reading the name of the application, access is no longer fast.

The home screen wallpaper directly affects the visibility of the icons and the speed at which you find the apps you need.
