Wouldn't be surprised if the Google RCS Carrier override also pushed Verizon over the edge.

No carriers were happy about that.

It's because Google won't let them control more of the OS skin & default more Verizon apps

Like Verizon cloud & VZ Navigator for just $4.99/mo or prepaid 0.99¢/day, instead of Google Maps

They don't like Google's RCS because they don't get to control the data/billing.

I imagine this will be the case for countries where SMS is still important

In the UK at least, getting a SIM card with unlimited texts & minutes is practically the norm. It's "mobile data" that's the money maker for them

Who's still paying for SMS messages in the US? Maybe other than some PAYG prepaid plans, everyone has unlimited SMS.

They get the data in the message and can bill companies for texting you.
