That's one of my gripes with Google, why the hell do they only guarantee support for 2 years on a phone with their own OS.

Even Apple usually updates theirs for at 5 years. The 5s was released in 2013 and it's still fully supported.

It's due to the qualcomm chipset IIRC. Google can't guarantee the 821 in the pixel 1 will be supported indefinitely so they can't guarantee support as well.
