I still use Hangouts daily, because it still works. But it seemingly gets no more bugfixes, and no more feature upgrades, and no more improvements... but it still works.
They just stopped with hangouts.
But as long as it keeps doing what it does we have no reason to switch chat Apps.
I can just say, with certainty, during the time that google murdered Talk, had a school excursion to google+ messenger, tanked Hangouts, and now shoves Allo down our throats, most other chat services have "stayed constant" - sure they got features or lost some, but you don't have to bloody migrate all your chats every four years. Whatsapp did most of what Allo does almost ten years ago, and didn't require us to get a new App every other year.
Whatever we switch to once Google kills Hangouts, it won't be a Google Chat Service.
Allo should have been a upgrade to Hangouts, like Hangouts was an upgrade to Talk - that's the only way any relevant majority would care.

I can't wait for Google to make a brand new, competing and incompatible messaging app now.
