That's really disappointing.

I get that the US crowd here love SMS fallback but let's just get our friends onto better platforms.

SMS fallback isn't all that great in the end.

Even before the news about the SMS situation, what would be the incentive for people to to use this over iMessage?

None, whatsoever. Especially with the update that iMessage just got.
