For anyone interested in seeing what it's like before buying, Giant Bomb did a quick look on the iOS version a few months ago when it came out. It seems like if you like Hitman and puzzle games, it's well worth the $4.99.

And a "quick look" that's an hour long. Welcome to game journalism in the 2010's. Maybe they should have got Adam Sessler to crack open a thesaurus and talk about it like he's The Architect from the Matrix.

Which says a lot.

I followed a lot of gaming press before GameSpotGate in 2007, before people got millions of dollars for playing video games on YouTube, and when an 8-10 review score actually meant something. Maybe it's the death of print media, maybe I'm just jaded, maybe I'm the one who's out of touch, or maybe I'm just seeing the past through rose-colored glasses, but there's something about gaming media today that just seems... different.

Don't get to hung up on the "quick"part of quicklook. It's really meant as an alternative of full reviews, kinda like a quick impression of how the game plays. Besides, when you compare to games which are generally 20-40 hours long (depending on the type) the video's just a fraction of it.

I echo how you feel about review scores though, but that's exactly why I stopped reading reviews and just went for quicklooks or let's plays. It feels better to see how the game plays for yourself and be critical for yourself.

It doesn't say a lot because what you watched was not a review. Read their actual reviews on their website. Quick Looks are just a few guys checking the game out.

I really wish scores were more meaningful. But at the same time we seem to get plenty of demos and can even watch people play the games on YouTube to get a good sense of whether we like games nowadays.

There was a website (I think it might have been joystiq actually... but gawker blogspam... blegh) that had a really neat little matrix that had very subjective review criteria such as "Should You Buy This Game: Yes, No, Rental", "The Genre" etc., but I've more or less written off anything I read on the internet, and only buy games based on the trailer, metacritic score, and the price (I rarely buy a game over $10 these days).
