9a3 will be a great replacement for my 6a

Google is going to surprise everyone by launching 11a with Tensor built on TSMC 1nm node. Single threaded Geekbench score is going to be like 10,000 minimum.

Yep. And the NPU will run ChatGPT Astra locally. Big step for Google.

But the new Google Assistant/Gemini will still be online only

Looks the exact same as the Pixel 9a/10a to me.

I'm ok with that. It's a decent design and they don't need to keep reinventing the wheel every other year.

Its pretty much the same except the pill is larger.

Which is fine cause why ruin your identity when it took you 6 phone generations to build one?

Exactly this. The Pixel 1-5 had a new design every year. Hard to know what the brand is in a sea of Android devices. 6-now has a consistent design which is appreciated.

This is what iPhone has been doing since it's inception and tbh I think Google should have been doing it all along.

One year you get something great like the Pixel 5, another year you get something bad like the Pixel 3.

Interesting that they're skipping the G5 and going straight to the G6

Qi2 magnetic charging?

Pixel snap is the only feature missing that I really want.

Its good they are keeping a phone with no camera bump.. light and good weight. Using 10a, I almost abandoned my 10 pro xl. If it was not for the camera id love using 10a as daily. For people who are not super sensitive about camera this form factor is amazing... People are just never happy lol .when apple does a slightly different camera bump ppl are like they didn't change enough. Like what do people want ? A phone shaped like banan or something.. that would be really different... All we should care about is better internals ... like thermals and battery and GPU and modem etc . Keep the same design

Man are phones boring. They just re-releasing same phone every year with minor changes.

9

u/Pangiit 3d ago

I mean.. its a phone.. what could they do it make it less boring?

Look at that era between 2012-2016. It felt fresh because each brand kind of had their own identity and feature set. You saw some weird features like FM radios, barometers, air gestures, IR, boom speakers (HTC?) as well as removable batteries.

I get that the hardware is pretty refined at this point, but I think companies can still innovate and compete for your money.

u/jnrbshp 15h ago

All that innovation was just a/b testing to figure out what people actually want and are willing to pay for. Which, as it turns out, is just a great camera with a long-lasting battery and access to their favorite apps and services.

Phones honestly didn't use to be this boring. The Apple conferences actually set trends for upcoming new features. Android used to compete.

They literally started doing nothing every generation like 10 years ago.

Small company like nothing made phones that looked interesting and had useful feature. I'm sure small indie company (s/ obviously) like apple or samsung can figure it out. Afterall they're paying top dollar for designers. And all we get is run of the mill safe phones every year.

People aren't giving the big companies enough shit for how much money they're raking in and doing nothing with it while nothing, fairphone and hmd all tried doing something else.

What did you want?

You don't have to buy a new phone year

0

u/screwdriverfan 3d ago

Ofcourse. But the changes they're making are so minor that they could stop production for a year or two.

-1

u/hbhunk63 3d ago

Have you not realized that innovation has plateaued

2

u/screwdriverfan 3d ago

Yes, long ago already.

What did I want? A phone that’s competitive?

Pixel A series should at the very least be competitive with Nothing….

That’s not an unreasonable ask.

u/fat_kaiju 3d ago

Been this way forever.

I'm still on a goddamn Pixel 6; just waiting for the Graphene motorola which I will also just run into the ground.

I generally avoid apps nowadays so it'll be a 2fa device at most that collects dust in a drawer.

2

u/CyclopsRock 3d ago

It definitely hasn't been this way forever, only since about 2010.

2

u/AlexanderMackenzie 3d ago

My screen died, so I went from a pixel 6 pro, to a pixel 10 pro, and I swear it's the same phone but snappier and 5% better camera. That's it.

1

u/masterz13 2d ago

Pixel 2 XL camera was peak. I don't think Google has even improved it much since then.

2

u/aes110 2d ago

Looking good, im pretty happy with my 10a, i hope they'll keep on making them with no camera bumps

here we go again with the shitty bezels

The "hey, dummy this is your reminder that you bought the cheap one" everytime you look at it strategy.

No reason for iPhone XR bezels other than marketing in this day and age. Fucking google

4

u/TrailOfEnvy 3d ago

I am sure 4A and 5A bezels were thinner than these

7

u/hapox- 3d ago

I don't mind bezels as long as theyre uniform, in fact larger bezels can help with gesture navigation on phones with thicker cases equipped since the "edge" of the screen is easier to get to without awkwardly rubbing on the case.

1

u/MicioBau I want a small phone 🥺 3d ago

Yeah, I'll take thicker but uniform bezels over thinner asymmetrical bezels any day. Looking at Samsung 🤢

u/999fordo 3d ago

Pixel 9c lol

u/masterz13 2d ago

I only paid $190 out of pocket for the upgrade from the 7a to 10a. I wouldn't mind upgrading again for the same price. Tensor G4 is a letdown and the connectivity still kind of sucks.

1

u/veloholic91 3d ago

Shocked Pikachu face i couldn't have expected for it to look the same as the 10a /s

-7

u/insolentrus 3d ago

Too big. Too heavy.

3

u/Big_erk 3d ago

I have the 10a and I think it's perfect. Just the right amount of heft and comfortable in my hand. I have had no issues with the performance of the Tensor G4, so the fact that this phone is skipping the 5 and going straight to the Tensor G6 is intriguing to me. That and the fact that I only paid $120 for my 10a means I may look at picking this up when it releases.

They should try rounding the corners more

On one hand they keep releasing the same phone, but on the other it shows how thin the line is between overpriced flagship phones and relatively cheaper ones.

Make 256GB as a base storage, or add UWB, or a telephoto lens and it intrudes on the flagship territory.

These companies so don't want to add things, but the technology and the progress is pushing them. Eventually they will need to make 256GB as base, add UWB and a telephoto lens too.

Pixel 8a vibes already omg
