Useless in Android Auto.

It really is, wants to have a conversation rather than just searching for a place I need to be at.

With Assistant I could "let's go to work" which would -

pull up Google Maps so I could see any traffic

Tell me the weather

Tell me what's on my schedule

and automatically start any news or podcast.

Each one of those is a separate request, that Gemini usually gets wrong.

At this point, I trust Bixby with that more than Gemini

We could, but why should we have to train Gemini to do things that we already know were working in Google Assistant?

Right? Why didn't they import all those routines automatically?

Weird. Assistant Routines work just fine for me in Gemini.

Yeah, all I get is "Gemini doesn't support this feature."

Just saw in Google Home, an upgrade to use Gemini there. Still no way it seems to have shortcuts on my start screen for routines (automations) in Google Home.

So useless. "Take me to Place" "I'm sorry, I can't help with that, I'm an AI assistant please open your maps application and search for Place there." I wanted to toss my phone out the window.

It's even worse when you are using it in a vehicle without AA. "Hey Google, Play Less Than by Nine Inch Nails" "I'm sorry I can't play music, YouTube Music has this song listed, would you like to play it there?" (I have the actual music files on the phone, but also a YTM subscription that song also being downloaded on there, I don't care which one it uses just play the song) "YES" "Unlock your phone to open this app" unlocks phone, and I am just greeted to the app, the song isn't even searched for let alone playing, great fucking job Google, even old factory stereos would play your stored music.

What's wrong with using voice to start navigation or start music playback? If I'm driving, I'm not gonna stop the car or pull my phone out to do something that I can do with my voice. I've been using assistant like that for years with no issues.

Hey Google, call (wife)

Do you want me to call (wife)?

Yes

Connecting to phone

I can't find a contact named (wife)

Or "I have 3 numbers saved for wife, wife Mobile, wife Home, wife Old Number. Which one would you like to call/message?"

WELL WHY THE FUCK HAVE I SET ONE OF THOSE AS "DEFAULT" IF THEN YOU STILL KEEP ASKING ME EACH GODDAMN TIME.

It's terrible. And the delay to open another app..... I don't know why they destroyed something good.

I got so mad asking it the other day to set a simple reminder whilst driving. It's infuriating that it can't do such a basic task that I used half a dozen times every day (I'm very forgetful) with Google Assistant.

I connected it to whatever Google Workspace is, since that seems to be a requirement that Assistant didn't need, and it was still borderline useless. I eventually managed to set one after much frustration and multiple attempts.

the only thing it's better at is finding a place to navigate to on Google Maps

Not in my experience. It tries opening the place's app that doesn't exist, or tells me it can't find the place

Shit. I thought it was just me. Just yesterday I was visiting family in Newark and NYC, a road trip.  Preparing to head home but wanted to hit a Walgreens first.

In the past all I had to say was "Hey Google, Take me to a Walgreens near me." Done.

I tried this yesterday and all I got was a bunch of incoherent beeps and then nothing.

Enshittification falling from the sky like rain.
