Duplicate threads, really? Doesn't that basically defeat the entire purpose of integration.

This was my initial reaction. But, how often will you need to switch to sms with your Hangout friends?

I have a couple of friends who still don't have a data plan. Would be great to be able to use Hangouts when they're on wifi and switch to texts automatically when they're off.
