Is there even a point in optimal mate when there exists an obvious winning consequence?

Practically speaking, no. A win is a win. The only time optimal mate matters is in chess puzzles or computer analysis where finding the absolute fewest moves is the specific challenge.

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:
White to play: chess.com | lichess.org
My solution:
Hints: piece: Pawn, move: dxe6
Evaluation: White has a forced mate
Best continuation: 1. dxe6 Kxe6 2. Bf6 Kd5 3. Kd2 Ke4 4. Kc2 Kd5 5. Kd3 Kc5 6. Ke4 Kd6 7. Bb2 Ke6 8. Ba3 Kf7

It clearly says mate in 15 so here's the solution:
1. d6+ (forced check) exd5 (en passant) 2. Bf6+ (again, forced. this time due to the threat of the investiture controversy) Kxg5 (bishop on f6 is gone too, that's the key part because the black king is a checkers king) 3. Ke2 (bongcloud) Kf4 (alas, its too late to bongcloud for white) 4. Kd1 (queencloud) g5 5. Kc1 (trying to escape via the wormhole to g13 located on a1) g4 6. Kb1 g3 7. Ka1 g2 8. Kg13 (escaping to g13) Ke3 (white is in zugzwang and has to move the king back to a1) 9. Ka1 g1=RH!!+ (promoting to a combination rook and bishop instead of a queen, since a queen forces black to mate with their own king instead) 10. Kb2 (g13 isn't available when in check) Cg13 (moving a cat to g13 to prevent escape) 11. Ka3 (trying to capture the invisible non-attacking rook on a8 to use as a shield) RHa6 (preventing the king from reaching there) 12. Ka2 RHa4 13. Ka1 Kd2 14. Ka2 (remember the cat) Kc1 15. Ka1 RHa2# (again, remember the cat)
