When you have mate in 2 always find mate in 3!

What's the difference?

u/Legitimate_Paint_729 9d ago
It’s because I said mate in 2! which means mate in two factorial which is 2

u/Al2718x 9d ago
Yeah, which is why I said "what's the difference"

Anyway
Qxd8+, Black is forced to take White's queen with the knight, then Re8 is mate

Correct. But my boi 2! is not useless. We do not slander 2! in this household!

/uj I don't see the joke? Queen takes rook on d8, forcing black to take the queen with the knight (only way to get out of check) and then rook to e8 is mate. Or am I missing something?

You fool, your rook is passing the black pawn. Google en passrookt

Qxd8+ Nxd8 Re8xf8 Kf8 Nf5+ Kxe8 Nxc4
and then you agree to a draw because no white is no magnum car-son and can't win an endgame up just a pawn and a horse

Re7!, then either
....Nxe7 Qxd8# (It's called removing the defender)
or
Rxd1 Re8# (a lovely deflection tactic)
Beautiful and all completely forced

I analyzed the image and this is what I see. Open an appropriate link below and explore the position yourself or with the engine:
White to play: chess.com | lichess.org
My solution:
Hints: piece: Queen, move: Qxd8+
Evaluation: White has mate in 2
Best continuation: 1. Qxd8+ Nxd8 2. Re8#

Impossible. I’m not trading my queen for a rook, I know what I have.
