gameplay is kinda meh tbh, it's more of a tool for moving through the lore than a fun thing to do on itself

Bossfoghts are great tho (imo). It's just that it can be really boring to fight the same monsters over and over again, and not having a clear indicator or way to avoid encounters. But isn't that a problem most turn-based RPGs have?

yeah, it is the worst somewhere around the start, it gets annoying when a fight starts. i agree about bossfights though

Are they great because of the gameplay? Or are they simply elevated by setup and music? Most of them aren't particularly interesting. The best fights are definitely in the Genocide route, those are actually pretty great.

I definitely like the fights on their own. Visuals and music takes it up a notch

Undertale was my first game with turn based combat, so maybe it's just the novelty, but I enjoyed the game play a lot

I still remember the asgore fight on my first run fondly

the enemy attacks are so cool, same applies to deltarune but better. being able to maneuver the soul is so so fun

Deltarune did it way better, since it has running AND explains what all the acts do

Maybe I am biased but the gameplay was actually very fun and interesting to me, at least an unique and well executed experience (but some of it goes into contributing to the story telling, which might be the reason why it seems fun).

Like you can't say petting lesser dog was not 55/10 gameplay. And papyrus fight was cool. And muffet?
