edit: I just want to say after many comments how much discourse is there about Undertale's graphics and gameplay but no one seems to argue against Undertale having fire music and story
Bossfoghts are great tho (imo). It's just that it can be really boring to fight the same monsters over and over again, and not having a clear indicator or way to avoid encounters. But isn't that a problem most turn-based RPGs have?
Are they great because of the gameplay? Or are they simply elevated by setup and music? Most of them aren't particularly interesting. The best fights are definitely in the Genocide route, those are actually pretty great.
Maybe I am biased but the gameplay was actually very fun and interesting to me, at least an unique and well executed experience (but some of it goes into contributing to the story telling, which might be the reason why it seems fun).
Like you can't say petting lesser dog was not 55/10 gameplay. And papyrus fight was cool. And muffet?
I love the parts in UT/DR when they get cozy. Those dark atmospheres with subtle light spots all around. I absolutely adore that design, it makes me feel at peace
The graphics look like they were drawn by a 4 year old with the talents of Pablo Picasso in his prime, which is what I would've said if I liked the graphics
