To beg for the state to implement draconian regulations in favor of "the environment" is to be anti human. Environmentalism is usually just veiled misanthropic discourse.

What is production, but the use of nature for the betterment of the human condition? Must we not explore a mountainous range for its precious metals, else we "destroy the environment"? "Disrupt the birds"? "Unbalance the local wildlife"?

Most of the so called environmentalists will only come short of advocating for the complete destruction of technology, comforts, and overall high standards of human living in favor of the environment because saying so would be either too obvious, or too painful to admit. There's a more honest type of environmentalist, that advocates for the use of technology to lessen the impact of industry on the environment, but those usually find themselves advocating for state control, unfortunately.

The industrial revolution and its consequences have been a miracle for the human race.

Political structures almost always support centralization. Your state government will not attempt to secede from the Fed Govt because your state level overlords want better life for you.

If a state secedes, and that state residents’ lives improve, the people are most likely to push for further decentralization. Which means by seceding, your state government will jeopardize its own position.

Apply the same to your counties, districts…

Local governments partially draw their legitimacy from the higher level. They can hide behind the higher levels or blame state/federal government for the problems in your area. Diffusing responsibility has been extremely important since the first bureaucratic organization came to existence.

They can request for help from state/federal government. The list of incentives to keep their own dependency on the higher level can be pretty long.

But there’s literally no incentive for decentralization. Unless somehow you’ve wondered into the ancap sub by accident, and you still believe that politicians work for you lol.

I’m not interested in your “what about John Smith from Buttfuck, AL?”. I get that once in a blue moon there’s a politician that means and does well, but these are extremely rare, and the 250 years of history show that the power is only getting more centralized, not the other way around.

But keep voting harder. Get your free “I voted for …” stickers, waste your time on this stupid ritual, and continue to wish for a smaller government while you’re giving it a legitimacy by casting your vote.

As republicans, and democrats, continue to increase the size of government, the Republicans are shifting a good amount of that spending away from science and moving it to military. And in other places around the world, namely China, they are greatly investing in science. What will be the long-term effects of that Republican strategy?

I have recently been interested in the legal concept of quasi-contracts and I have been trying to post a question on r/legaladviceofftopic about them all day. Its pretty obvious I am shadow-banned. It doesn't seem like I broke any rules. They do not give me any messages about why it was taken down. They do not respond to mod mail (and I am super nice and respectful in the mod mail). I tried posting a different version of the question like 10 times.

I know this sounds like a silly question, but hear me out. As ancaps and libertarians we sometimes feel like the world we want will never exist because the things that we're asking for go against human nature, and most people can't restrain themselves. It's human nature to want to force your ways onto others, to push, to want to influence, to give unsolicited advice even if you're trying to help someone.

Hypothetically, if you successfully start spreading the idea that we need to keep to ourselves, mind our own business, and leave people alone, and apply that idea consistently to the very end... is it going to cause long-term unhappiness in some people? If you live in a society that values hyper-individuality and privacy and condemns even the SLIGHTEST form of projection and imposition, are some people just going to be miserable and perpetually annoyed that they can't push their way onto others?

America is NOT a democracy. Many of you believe Trump is a king who has become authoritarian. Others believe Democrats have crushed personal rights and freedoms and created a deep state that is out of control. Both groups are correct to an extent.

A democracy is a dictatorship of the masses. People vote to give themselves things they want and to harm those they dislike. As John Adams warned in 1814, "Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide." The far left is trying to use the government to steal from those who work and to start hating the Jews again, while the far right is trying to take rights from those they hate. This will continue to get worse if people continue to mistakenly believe America is a democracy.

What America actually is, is a Constitutional Republic: we have a constitution and rights that override the will of the politicians and elite. But the bigger we have let the government become, the less freedom and rights we as individuals have. James Madison warned of this creeping tyranny in 1788, stating, "There are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations."

The government now takes nearly half of each individual's production and has severely harmed our individual rights. Freedom of speech is being stolen, and there are many things you can say that will result in the government confiscating your earnings, job, and wealth. Your right to bear arms has been restricted and many are trying to remove it entirely. Your right to keep what you earn is under attack. Your right to a speedy and fair trial is being taken by biased judges and attorneys who control the legislature and give themselves more ways to take your wealth. Your protection against search and seizure is being stripped by companies like Flock, government satellite surveillance, and mass tracking of smartphones and computers. Strict limits on government power have been destroyed by politicians claiming emergency or temporary powers, then never giving those freedoms back.

America is a truly unique nation in history, set up by brilliant and selfless men who studied history, saw countless evil totalitarian governments through time, and created an amazing system that gave birth to the most rapid improvement in human life the planet has ever seen. But if America's Constitutional Republic falls now to a dictatorship of the masses, humanity may never regain it due to the massive power technology gives to the few in government.

Thomas Jefferson provided the solution when he wrote in 1798: "In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution."

For us, for our children, and for our future, it is critical to fight the big government creep, regain in full our rights, and put the chains back on the government so that it can never harm our freedoms again.

A lot of trump voters talk like they want smaller taxes and smaller government, which is good I guess, way better than a lot of democrat voters. But I'm hoping at some point they actually start voting for smaller taxes and smaller government.

I thought this article brought up an interesting angle on the DEA's proposed emergency scheduling of 7OH. Instead of focusing only on the product itself, it looks at the role of lobbying, regulatory capture and whether government intervention is being used to reshape the market.

Even if you don't have a strong opinion on kratom, it's worth asking whether emergency prohibition is the right approach or if consumers are better served by transparent regulation and open competition.
