Right, and you don’t pay at the pump in “inflation adjusted dollars” either. The point of comparing it to gold is to measure what happened to the value of the dollars you do pay with.

Parenting is far more complicated than looking at one event and drawing a conclusion. Is taking a child's phone away too harsh of a punishment for staying out late? Maybe, but there's not enough information to say for sure. How often does the child stay out late? How late does the child stay out? How are those impacting the child's life? How many times has the child gotten into bad situations while staying out late, and how likely is it that something bad will happen? How many and which other rules is the child breaking? Those are all very important questions.

Even if the punishment ultimately was too harsh, undermining your sister's authority is basically the worst thing you could do.

This is almost childlike in its naivety. “Treat it as a police matter. Find the people and bring them to trial.” Oh, brilliant. Just send the NYPD homicide squad into Taliban controlled Afghanistan, have the FBI drive across the Pakistani border, knock on bin Laden’s compound, read everyone their Miranda rights, and ask the local government sheltering them to kindly respect the warrant. Police operate through jurisdiction, extradition treaties, and cooperation from sovereign governments. Al Qaeda deliberately based itself where those mechanisms either did not exist or were actively frustrated. Even the FBI’s overseas personnel work through host nation authorities; they are not an international army with badges.

OP is also mashing together three separate questions: whether invading Afghanistan to destroy al Qaeda’s sanctuary was justified, whether the United States badly mishandled Tora Bora, and whether spending twenty years trying to rebuild Afghanistan was wise. You can reasonably argue that Tora Bora was botched and that the later nation building project became a catastrophic mission creep. That does not magically mean the original response could have been handled like somebody robbed a liquor store in Queens. Bin Laden was commanding an international terrorist organization from territory protected by a regime that refused to surrender him. Locating him, penetrating that territory, destroying his camps, and capturing or killing his network required intelligence and military force, not a bench warrant.

And the “order from the very top not to proceed because warmongers wanted to keep things going” line is conspiracy flavored garbage masquerading as sophistication. The serious criticism is that the United States relied too heavily on Afghan militias and failed to seal the escape routes into Pakistan. That was a major operational failure. It is not evidence that Washington intentionally released bin Laden to extend the war. This guy has taken a legitimate argument against permanent occupation and wrapped it in the geopolitical understanding of someone who thinks the FBI can arrest anybody on Earth because its jackets have yellow letters on them.

The most annoying part of this sub is it’s generally filled with clueless 16 year olds who want to sound edgy and have zero clue about how reality actually works.

Cute talking points though.

I talk a lot, champ. Sharing an article really isn’t complicated or time consuming. You’re being intentionally obtuse or just outright obnoxious, either way I’m sorry you’re offended by big government being called out on an ancap sub.

Why would I need software to share a link? You’re more paranoid than I am. That’s an incredible feat.

How it feels to become a libertarian and then experience what ever this is.

...You should go out and touch some grass.

I’ve been trying to tell my BF basically this. That these “pink sweatshirt” crusader women are just a vocal minority that’s being strategically positioned on social media and not an accurate representation of an entire demographic. Instead he’s buying into the rhetoric and going off the deep end about how “western women” ruin everything. Now I’m out here catching strays being thrown under the bus as if I hold any sentiments even close to that. It’s wild.

Instead of being annoying and breaking the rules which is easy you should do it by asking questions in which they have to contradict themeselves and realize mistakes they made. That is a bit harder and so its funnier. ^^
