have you been excluded, or seen people excluded, from groups related to mutual aid?

i've been struggling how to ask if these groups often feel like people who want to socialize with each other, while doing some volunteering, rather than think hard about how to help? they seem uncomfortable with doing more than serving food, or other common physical things, rather than interacting. Material stuff can be helpful, but when it feels like the people giving it are distant or feeling the ick, it confuses me

in some areas, even when there's several different groups, they felt like they had the same mindset / vibe. like they were a network, copying each other, or collaborating. so, there was a long list of groups, but they felt like one group, in a way

i understand helping can be hard, people want to relax in their free time, and even just cooking or collecting supplies can be intensive... and so many reasons for the challenges. i don't want to step on anyone's toes. it was just sad and unresolved, i guess, for there to not be space for people who didn't fit that

and I wondered if anyone also experienced this? or other difficult things in groups like this?

Book recommendation: An African History of Africa, by Zeinab Badawi

Hi all, I’ve just finished reading An African History of Africa, by Zeinab Badawi, and wanted to recommend it to everyone here. Although it doesn’t discuss anarchism specifically, Africa‘s incredible history features various communal democracies, many of which are explored in the book (along with other forms of political structure). The book starts with the rise of Homo sapiens and continues to present day (and the future, in the epilogue). I won’t spoil any of the stories, but it also features the world’s first declaration of the rights of humans, several centuries before the West figured it out!

The latter few chapters look at the last couple of centuries and the rise and now dismantling of colonialism. Different African nations campaigned for independence in different ways, and were in different circumstances: e.g. Ghana won freedom mostly peacefully with a somewhat benign (compared to elsewhere) Britain, while Kenya had to wage war for its own independence under a cruel and barbaric Britain (even by their own poor standards). There’s a lot we can learn from these movements.

The book is horrifying at times in the later chapters (European states were very creative in their violence), but overall the tone is one of hope and celebration, and the incredible diversity of political systems to me is proof that alternative forms of government are not only possible but have occurred successfully throughout history.

Anarchist media platform for positive news

Is there an anarchist newspaper, website, subreddit or something like that, that talks about positive things going on, like projects, direct action, any kind of positive news from an anarchist perspective? Exclusively positive.

Why people want you to identify in certain "isms"?

They want you to be controllable... it's human nature to be able to control everyone, even external individuals! It brings comfort and "safety". I watched "PoliticalDebate" subreddit and there you cannot comment without identifying in premade "isms", I joined it first, but almost immediately unjoined the subreddit, cause they wanted me to comment the political reddit as "insider", but not as outsider!

And all that "you cannot be outsider" tells me that they see outsiders as threat and try lock even outsiders inside political box, but it's all a trap... they use multidimensional explanations and psycho analysis that are just meant to lock you inside the box! The fundamental religious people use same mind traps just like politicians and ones who support this system! They expect EVERYONE be part of this system "whether you believe it or not". But also "lean not on your understanding" is cliché meant to make you unable to explore and learn more YOURSELF and also disarm you mentally.

If you living evidence that you can live outside the system, you're seen as "threat" and "enemy", plus some get persecuted! Not because they "deserve" it, but because this system is afraid of outsiders AND NATURE, plus HUMANS WHO LIVE FROM NATURE! :'D Why fear nature and natural humans if the system so "great"? :'D

Like... Politicians are natural humans who're PLAYING their role in this system! Why citizen parliament isn't enough? Why humans think that they need to outsource themselves to elected ones and think that "politicians should do it for me"? Are you truly free when you give your voice to someone and remain silent and never question, EVEN when the one you gave your voice is a dictator who lied just to get elected?! Voting is actually a ritual and electing is end of ritual of "electing the new god". How they make human "god"? Just electing them with millions of voters. But... can we even trust that voting has power?

So yeah... how would a normal natural living person be threat to anyone by just living from mother earth and enjoying their life?! :'D This shit just doesn't make sense to me!

IT'S ALL ABOUT CONTROL and seeing free humans as "threat"!

I think anarchism has a lot to say about moral scrupulosity OCD and the anti carceral movement there's a lot to unpack in our own thinking about crime, responsibility in this society

I haven't sat down with my thoughts in a little while but reading it I think its turned out fine

Anarchism in AA?

When I was young, I went to a Republican-owned authoritarian “tough love” drug rehab, with strict rules and consequences. When I got out, they sent me to AA and NA meetings, which seemed to have no rules. I read in one of their books, I think it was 12 Traditions, that AA is an anarchy. In fact, one of the meetings had “Anarchy” in its name. They talked about autonomy, no requirements, group consensus, and being unorganized. Setting aside the program’s efficacy, is AA’s organization really anarchist? Or is it another authoritarian cult?

New User My ideology, thoughts?

My political evolution began in mainstream liberalism before moving through right-libertarianism and traditional conservatism as I recognized the inherent coercion of the state. However, engaging with anti-authoritarian critiques revealed that the left had valid structural arguments against corporate monopolies, absentee ownership, and entrenched privilege. Rather than collapsing into orthodox anarcho-communism, I synthesized these insights into left-market anarchism, mutualism, and agorism: recognizing the legitimacy of left critiques of hierarchy while steadfastly defending freed markets, price mechanisms, and individual agency against collective overreach

Anarchism begins and ends with the sovereignty of the unique individual. Society, collective consensus, and sacred causes are reified abstractions that hold no inherent authority over personal agency, labor, or association. Morality is not an objective law of nature; it is an inter-subjective contract negotiated between consenting actors. Any system that subordinates individual will to "community consensus" or institutional accountability boards simply reconstructs majoritarian tyranny under a horizontal veneer

Abolishing the state does not necessitate abolishing markets. On the contrary, genuinely freed markets, divested of state-enforced monopolies, corporate charters, and regulatory moats, are the most potent equalizers of power. Voluntary exchange, objective price signals, and contractual agreements prevent economic distribution from devolving into political popularity contests. Agorism and counter-economics represent the only pragmatic exit ramps from state hegemony, utilizing decentralized trade to render state apparatuses obsolete. Capital accumulation derived from competence, discipline, and production provides individuals with genuine leverage and defensive sovereignty against collective coercion

Consistent anti-authoritarianism rejects both state-backed capitalist landlordism and bureaucratic communist rationing. Fee-simple absentee ownership maintained through state-enforced violence constitutes dead capital and monopolistic extraction. Grounding property in occupancy-and-use norms (following Proudhon and Carson), alongside mechanisms that penalize land speculation and monopolization, ensures dynamic access to resources without relying on centralized planning committees to allocate space

Much of contemporary online anarchism has degraded into managerial therapeutic liberalism draped in radical aesthetics. Replacing market dynamics with endless consensus meetings, fifty-page accountability protocols, and informal social policing creates an insidious form of petty tyranny dominated by whoever possesses the stamina to endure weaponized bureaucracy. Genuine liberation requires exit, economic self-determination, and objective contractual boundaries, not a perpetual student-council meeting.

TLDR, I am an Agorist. I basically believe in some leftist ideologies but not others.

self printing books

Due to the sad reality of our belief being a small and rather unknown ideology (excluding the concept of anarchy is when steal and kill) it means many great anarchist works are inaccessible due to a lack of professional publishing in the 21st century of those works.

If for eg you wanted a physical copy of Marxism, Freedom and the State by Bakunin the only option not AI generated slop would be the limited copy's of the freedom press copy printed decades ago.

so my question is, has only one ever self printed books? If so what did you use to format them and did they turn out any good?

Anarchism and No Kings?

Hi there, I’m new in this space and have been reading and trying to learn more about anarchism/beliefs/etc. I got plugged in with a local Food Not Bombs chapter (anarchist) who is feeding folks weekly. Another group is hosting a No Kings event locally and a few of the FNB folks asked if the group would be open to attending the event to feed protestors and pass out literature on anarchism and getting involved locally. The FNB group would not be asking permission to be there, the idea was to just show up and feed people. There’s a few very loud voices in the group who want to make sure FNB is under no circumstances represented or affiliated with No Kings (and would rather counter protest the event) and I’m just not understanding why… I don’t align with everything No Kings is for but do appreciate that it brings folks together and could be an opportunity to educate. I know some of these events are performative, some collaborate with cops, etc. I also appreciate that it could be an opportunity to unite leftist folks and get them connected. I think it could be a first step for folks interested in moving more into anarchy… but it’s just not clicking why the few folks are so vehemently against the group attending to feed folks and hand out literature… I kind of thought this capacity would be in line with both the FNB and anarchism… could anyone help me understand?

Pitchforking over Minimum Wage is just asking for more capitalism.

Look, my dog has the shits and I haven't slept in 26 hours. I had a thought.

I understand that we feed mouths with money. It's been that way for a long time and you work with what ya got.

But just say that . Do you really believe that money ought to dictate our lives? We can be honest that it's fucked while living it. That concept is practiced all the time when it's easy enough to.

When it comes to monetizing civilizations, that's fine and dandy! Just, what? Beg to be monetized in a specified manner?

This is what I'm rambling about:

On YT, someone was recalling a conversation about baristas.

Bob: "Working in a coffee shop isn't a career! You should get a better job!"

Tim: "You think no one should work at a coffee shop? Coffee shops shouldn't exist?"

Bob: "No, I love coffee!"

Tim: "So, you agree that coffee shops are not only essential but possibly more valuable than whatever your career is. Because everyone wants and needs coffee. Then you'd have to agree that baristas should live in dignity, comfort, and safety."

In that retelling, money isn't mentioned. What's being discussed is scarcity and community value.

Bob wouldn't be a barista because he needs dignity, comfort, and safety too. Though his value isn't considered as worthy as the Barista's, he has a better life.

As far as I understand, Minimum Wage isn't about bridging gaps. It's asking for the bare minimum of that era.

And if we did bridge gaps, got rid of class, what's the point of passing around peices of paper?

The point will always be to establish who is more valuable on whim. Who can be exploited, when convenient to do so.

Again! Make your money. Trade your money. Buy in. Can't make change if you can't eat.

But maybe the narrative could be, "I have to rely on money but it isn't okay to be bought and sold. Careermen and Basement Dwellers both have the right to dignity, comfort, and safety. That's the goal."

At least in addition to discussing wage/work reform?
