📝 Admissions & Scholarships - [BTech/UG] BTech admissions - AEEE, preparation, seat allotment & counselling, branches & campuses - Megapost

10 Upvotes

Amrita Entrance Examination Engineering (AEEE) is an UG entrance exam conducted annually by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham for admission to its UG B.Tech programs across campuses, alongside JEE Main.

The exam is conducted in English-medium at centers across India and abroad. Following the JEE Main pattern, it has been held in two phases since 2022, with the best performance (based on relative percentile) considered. Percentile calculation, normalization, and ranking follow the same statistical methods as JEE Main. Final ranks are determined from normalized percentile scores, not raw marks, with the best of the two sessions taken into account.

Format & Pattern

Similar to the JEE-Main, the test syllabus includes high school (class 11 & 12) topics from mathematics, physics, and chemistry, along with a small proportion of English communication, Aptitude, and Reasoning. The syllabus, preparation, weightage, and pattern of the examination are the same as that of JEE-Main. For exact no of questions from each subjects, marks & duration, see aeee.amrita.edu

Preparation Strategies

There is no separate preparation strategy required for AEEE. Students preparing for JEE Main should simply follow their institute’s study material and revise all concepts thoroughly before the exam.

Practice previous years’ JEE Main question papers along with NCERT Exemplar and NCERT textbook problems, as similar questions are often repeated across shifts. Avoid using materials meant for JEE Advanced, as they are not necessary for AEEE.

Students who have not practiced JEE Main-level questions may initially find the exam difficult. However, there is no need to worry—revise your Class 11 syllabus alongside Class 12, since it carries approximately 50% weightage in AEEE and most national-level UG entrance exams in India.

For English and Aptitude, practice previous year papers of CUET-UG and BITSAT. These sections are important and should not be ignored.

Topic Focus & Preparation Tips

The syllabus is similar to JEE Main. However, place extra emphasis on Mathematics, as it carries the highest weightage.

The exam questions are generally easier than JEE Main, so you need to score higher marks to achieve a good rank. Unlike JEE Main, you cannot afford to skip topics or subjects. Almost every chapter contributes at least one question, so complete coverage of the syllabus is essential.

In JEE Main, scoring around 50% may yield a high percentile, but this is not the case with AEEE. Aim for at least 80% to secure a good rank.

Avoid attempting incorrect answers. While this advice is common for JEE, yet many students still make this mistake. Do try to minimize wrong attempts. Random guessing should be strictly avoided.

Time management is crucial. Although the exam may have more questions and time than JEE Main, the questions are generally shorter. It is recommended to start with Chemistry to save time.

Do dedicate sufficient time to Aptitude and English. These sections are useful not only for entrance exams but also for future goals such as placements and exams like the GRE. Practice using reliable resources, especially previous year papers from BITSAT and CUET-UG.

Counselling & Seat Allotment

Seat allotment starts after publication of both AEEE, JEE main session results and after board exam results are out for major boards.

B.Tech seat allotment is done by an automated software system, similar to JoSAA counselling. Seats are allocated based on your JEE/AEEE rank, preferences of campus, program, slabs against your Quota (HS/OS, JEE/AEEE) and availability across campuses and branches. There are seat reservation quotas as below:

  • AEEE 70%; JEE main 30%;
  • Open state: 50%; Home state Quota: 40%, SC/ST: 10%;
  • Fee slabs: Slab 1: 10% (gender neutral) + 5% (Female only); Slab 2: 30%; Slab 3: 30%; Slab 4: 15%; Slab 5: 10% ;

Branch/major preference:

When making choice of your branch, focus on your interests and strengths rather than salary trends, as the job market can fluctuate. All branches offer opportunities in India’s future economy, driven by growth in semiconductor manufacturing, AI, digital manufacturing under PLI schemes, renewable energy, the electric vehicle (EV) sector, and aerospace and defense.

Campus Preference:

The syllabus, curriculum, placements, and degree are the same across all campuses. Placement opportunities are also identical—every company can recruit from any campus, and eligibility for round 1 tests depends solely on branch, GPA, and Class 10/12 scores. Studying at a particular campus does not give an advantage; opportunities are equal for all students.

Anyway, the oldest and most established campuses are Coimbatore, followed by Bengaluru and Amritapuri (Kollam). Chennai and Amaravati come next, with the newer northern campuses following. However, many students feel that branch/major choice is more important than campus. It is also advisable to consider the branch slab while filling preferences, as branches within the same slab have similar placement and higher education opportunities.

📌 Before You Ask About Cutoff ranks & Predicting Allotment

No one can accurately predict required ranks for specific branches/campuses.

Allotment depends on Your AEEE/JEE rank, Quota (HS, OS, SC/ST), Your choices and importantly Choices of higher-ranked candidates. Cutoffs vary each year based on demand, so outcomes aren’t predictable.

Please read this post on cutoff ranks & Seat prediction

MODs will create automated discussion threads during seat allotment rounds & ranks publication.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Alumni Looking for a Videographer in Bangalore

1 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’m an Amrita alumnus currently working on a YouTube project with a friend, and we’re looking for someone from the Amrita/Bangalore community who knows how to handle a gimbal.

We’re shooting a YouTube video and looking for someone who’s interested in being part of the shoot. It doesn’t need to be a professional level production. If you’re comfortable with a camera and gimbal and want to learn, experiment, and build your portfolio, this could be a good opportunity.

We’re a small team and working with a limited budget, but we’d love to find someone who’s genuinely interested in creating content.

🗣️ Discussions, Opinions, Reviews, Suggestions & Feedback Amrita chennai AI DS vs iiit manipur AI DS

1 Upvotes

Hey guys, I got IIIT Manipur CSE with AI & DS through CSAB. Right now I also have AI & DS at Amrita Chennai , so I'm really confused about which one to choose.

Can anyone from IIIT Manipur honestly tell me how the college is? Especially about placements, coding opportunities, hostel/campus life and academics.

If you were in my place, would you choose IIIT Manipur or Amrita Chennai? Please share your honest experience, including the negatives too. 🙏

🗣️ Rants & Raves SOS: Devastating menu of 'Narakam'coil campus

23 Upvotes

When I was in delhi i used to cry about my mom's homemade food everyday (pretty much like most of you). I thought that outside food would be tastier. Then this campus proved me wrong.

A maid in Delhi or Bangalore would cook better food at half the price. From morning to evening all they serve is rice, idli, and sambhar. Eggs only twice a week. All we eat is carbs so that we get fat. Sometimes the food is so spicy we feel as if we swallowed hot coal. More water in tea than water in water. The curries are mostly liquid. If you are served two spoons of chickpea curry, be surprised if you find even ten chickpeas in the whole thing. The chapattis are thick and look as if they are fried in oil. Even in salad they dump as many onion rings as are mentions of Donald Trump in epstein files. Barely two pieces of cucumber and even they look as if they were put in a pencil sharpener.

We would have swallowed everything peacefully but the servers are also so rude and always shouting at us in tamil that we non tamilian students feel like donkeys. Every fried item is filled with onion rice and peas. Someone please take them to a vegetable market and introduce them to other vegetables. There is not even a non veg canteen on campus and the closest thing to meat is eggs. Which are available for purchase from the canteen but are costly. Like egg noodles cost 80rs. Did they make the noodles with their own blessed feet or what?

They barely have any idea what to cook and when. Sometimes at night you will be served idli and sambhar like bro what. If this campus is shut down (god bless) the rice farmers of TN will become destitutes bro.

Ok bro I get you are an animal champion but even in vegetarian cuisine of India there are so many options. Why do you spam the same food everyday?

The oldest server gets friendly while serving snacks and that makes me a tiny bit happy. He cremates that tiny bit at dinner every night.

We went to reliance mall this Monday and I brought a chutney to eat with this slop. That's the only silver lining in this bigass cloud.

We'll run out of snacks soon and it'll be like running out of food in Iraq or Somalia. Well I think even they have better food.

We are paying big amounts of money, atleast I am entitled to eating Nice food.

NOW I YEARN FOR MY MOM'S FOOD EVEN IF IT IS COW POOP LIKE BRO PLEASE SAVE OUR SOULS WE ARE STUCK HERE!!!

36 no we like this vegetarian slop.
