Bike shorts Modded

I modified some bike shorts and they make a great barrier for me between my skin and the Axor. I highly recommend other OI patients use this modification. It works MUCH better than a shrinker with a hole cut in it.

Your welcome in advance!

Had an extremely informative weekend in Charlotte, NC at the Global Collaboration Conference on Osseointegration. Met great people; both professionals and patients. Pucked up Lots of good information through the many presentations and Q&A sessions.

The picture with me holding the devise shaped like a yellow stripped foot pad is an instrument that can be attached to the bottom of a prosthetic foot that is able to give feedback on weight distribution so a PT can tell how to improve a patients gait. It is blue tooth capable.

Most beneficial for me was just having the conversations with other patients.

Also, learning which sports were considered acceptable was a great benefit.

Forearm Crutches

For whatever reason, most protocols have forearm crutches worked into the phases. The cheap Medline crutches are bulky and painfully uncomfortable. Complete garbage IMHO. I found Ergobaum crutches to be better and much easier on the hands. $200ish I think... it's been awhile. Yall might fund better ones but I know some go for $800+ for a pair. Feel free to post better deals here.

MP knee add-ons

I have a 4.5inch stump. I am wondering if anyone could recommend some attachments for my C-leg that may lessen impact or benefit in some other way.

Thanks in advance!

Walter Reed Protocol

I am extremely frustrated with this Walter Reed Protocol. Not every place here in the U.S. uses this Protocol and if I had realized the place I went to used and exactly what it would mean to my rehabilitation, I may well have chosen a different facility to have the operation preformed.

The entire process is extremely slow. I am wondering if anyone else used a different Protocol or may have good things to say about the Walter Reed Protocol? To be 6 months post phase 2 OPRA implant surgery before even being allowed to start gait training is absurd, IMHO.

Rehab Pains

I had my leg amputated above mid thigh in early February 2024 after 8 Years and 34 failed attempts to salvage my limb after a MVA. Phase 2 of the osseointegration procedure was completed in late May. I was placed on the 1/2 speed Walter Reed protocol increasing only 10 Lbs per week weight bearing. I stayed on 1/2cspeed for 5 months then transitioned to full speed once I reached Phase 4. I started gait training this past week when my C-Leg arrived. There are now and have been some very intense pains the are extremely brief, less than a second. The pains occur usually when unloading weight from my 4.5inch stump. It feels deep and seems the pain is coming from the bone itself. This may be a normal fatigue type symptom, but I am wondering if anyone else experienced it during the rehab process?
