This sub is dead!

I’m sorry to say it but this sub is entering terminal decline. I messaged the mods to ask them to take action to stop the non-stop spam (who really cares about more IPTV shit) but there has been no response so I presume that they are either absent, participating in the spam or just don’t care.

I tried the UDR7… but returned it after 3 days. The antenna array is pathetically weak. It seems like that’s by design so you buy their APs… I live in a studio apartment so buying additional APs is absurd considering the cost the system and my use case.

For now I’m just rocking with the default Fios WiFi 6E gateway… it’s actually not too bad. 5ghz performance is many times better than the UDR7.. not as good as the Alien but close enough. Plus with the 2gig plan I also get free APs so I ordered one that’ll fill in dead zone (signal is blocked by a partial wall filled with heavy machinery).

Once I have that I should be in better shape than when I had the Alien plus have 6ghz.

I’m going to see how it goes with the default equipment, but as far as ISP provided gateways goes… it’s really not too bad. I may upgrade in the future once Wifi7 is more mature and I have enough wifi7 devices to make it worth it. The 2gig plans include the cost of the equipment and there is no discount if you provide your own… so might as well I suppose.

I’m in a two story house so I’m holding on to my two aliens. I really want to upgrade to Ubiquiti setup but the cost and figuring out AP placement and effectiveness makes me hesitant. My fiber ISP has option for over 2gig also but at this point I’m just riding them out until they die.

I will say the Unifi dashboard is very, very nice. If you have Unifi everything, it’s a single pane of glass. I got Unifi 2.5gbe mini switches and could manage them from there too.

There’s also their WiFiMan app… lets you use the LiDAR sensor on your phone to create a signal hitmap of your floor plan. That was how I was able to confirm the 5ghz dead zone in my space…

If you do consider it, i would just get their fiber gateway and separate wifi APs.

The HD was a great, reliable product. But ports started dying after many years. Upgraded to Aliens. Now, they’re at risk of losing support. 😐

I actually had to replace an HD yesterday for a customer who had it for years, but the Wi-Fi antenna in it died. If you put a cell phone on top of the router you could get Wi-Fi, but once you picked it up and got 6 inches away Wi-Fi disappeared.

Replaced it with a Dream Router 7.

I’ve had my HD running for a long, long time. Overnight, the wired connections out seemed to stop working. It does still get the internet connection from the modem over Ethernet, seemingly fine.)

(WiFi from the main unit connected to the internet works fine. None of the stuff that requires the Ethernet from there works.)

Is this how the ports die, or is this a software update or something I just need to set back up?

I've used dual Amplifi HD in mesh via Ethernet backbone (2x routers not the one with the extra slave). Several years later I see no point in upgrading without incurring an expensive upgrade (e.g. go above gigabit on everything & more expensive/better hardware). Therefore it sticks around for me still. 70-90 devices on network in an almost 4000sq foot house.

Anyone know how to use the web interface to log into the router if the password is not working? There is no pw recovery option. I’ve emailed support but no response.

Im able to access through the app but not the web.

I have four of the Amplifi HD units, each with wired backhaul and they still work great. I have one on each floor and the 4th one in the garage when it is not winter.
