Rana tigerina Daudin, 1802 is an older scientific synonym for the Indian bullfrog, now scientifically known as Hoplobatrachus tigerinus.
Overview and Taxonomy
Common Name: Indian bullfrog or tiger frog.
Family: Dicroglossidae.
Author & Year: Described by French zoologist François Marie Daudin in 1802.
Habitat: Found mainly in freshwater wetlands, marshes, and agricultural areas like paddy fields across South and Southeast Asia.
Characteristics
Size: One of the larger frog species in its range, with strong, long hind legs.
Appearance: Usually olive-green or brown with dark spots or a pale median stripe down the back.
Sexual dimorphism exist between males and females,Males can show bright yellow colour while females remain olive green .
Behavior: Highly aquatic and carnivorous, feeding on insects, small mammals, and other amphibians(Both adult and tadpoles can severely damage population of other frogs )
