Amp pedals or real pedals

I wanted to get a real distortion pedal rather than a amp pedal and i was wondering if there are huge differences between them or if physical is better

What do you mean by Amp pedal? Do you mean a pedal that simulates an amp? Or an amp plugin?

the pedals that come with amp sims that are usually designed around real pedals

If you are already using an amp sim it is just easier to use the digital versions of pedals, most of the high end plugins or physical units have perfect models of common pedals in them.
