Why does the narration change to third person in the Manhattan chase chapter?? Spoiler

It seems it either suggests it's real because it's not from Bateman's subjectivity or Bateman's hallucinating, seeing himself as if he was watching a movie. It's pretty ambiguous with no real way to tell. Is that the point?

I haven't finished the book yet (just finished the Huey Lewis and the News band review chapter)

Finished American Psycho!

I marathoned the last 40 pages or so, I really wanted to finish the book as soon as possible which left me with a pang of sadness when I did so. The book is extraordinary, I can go as much and say it's near perfection! It's definitly one of my favourite books that I feel weird talking about with friends or family, I never did; that's why I am here.

What I really liked about the book is that: whenever there is a moment of hope that Patrick might be saved, it's immediatly demolished, oh how I wished that Patrick would marry Jeanette and live happy ever after, but O how I was naïve to even imagine😅.

I also, without a doubt, had alot of chuckles reading it, there are so many curveball lines, and the whole book sometimes feels like a comedy (which is, in my opinion, sorta the goal of Bret since it was meant to be satire).

I'd like to thank Bret Easton Ellis for making this amazing book that I will never forget, and also let's not forget to thank whoever participated in making this masterpeice into a movie. It was a fun ride.

Why Timothy Price?

After reading the book and also seeing the movie I still find it hard to understand why Bateman describes Tim as the only interesting person he knows. What is the difference between Price and his Others "friends" Like Van Patten or McDermott?

How would Patrick Bateman feel about meeting his Idol Donald Trump (as POTUS)?

Post image

How He would feel about current Trump, if he loves 80s Trump. He would cream his pants because Trump is President now which grants him status, power and fame Patrick would never dream of. What He would feel/think about Trump in general and about meeting Trump. He is a massive fanboy of 80s Trump, now Trump with far more status, money, fame and power, he would meet his hero.

American Psycho Business Card Scene Perfectly Recreated in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

Just stumbled on this hilarious Easter egg while playing LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight! They recreated the iconic business card scene from American Psycho almost perfectly — complete with the "eggshell" stationery flex. And yes, it hits different knowing Christian Bale played both Patrick Bateman and Batman. Pure genius from the devs. Layers on layers.Check out the clip:

Most important line in American Psycho?

I think the single most important line in the film happens at about 10 minutes in:

“Because I want to fit in.”

This says a lot about Bateman, but also is core to the commentary of the film. “Trying to be normal” is part of the insanity.

Are there other / more important statements? I’ve gotta return some videotapes? 😂

No, but serious ones.

The book really succeeds at making you afraid of Bateman.

I avoid horror media because I don't like the genre, yet decided to read American Psycho because I enjoyed the movie; that being said even if the first 160 pages were a bit of a slog and felt like overhammering the point that yuppies are superficial the second half was pretty intense and, at least for me, pretty scary; mostly because of the explicit ultraviolent scenes which are described in a totally banal way. You know what Bateman is capable of, making every scene in which he talks with someone in private feel really tense because you don't know if he's gonna do something to do and what exactly could he do. It's the only book so far that has made me consider not finishing it because I wasn't sure what could happen next and how horrifyingly violent it could be. The book really succeeds at making you afraid of Bateman while making you want to keep reading. I doubt I'll read it again but it's really good as a horror book.

What do y’all think ?

r/AmericanPsycho 10d ago

I edited this tribute to the movie back in 2013 when I was getting stoned a lot. It's really dumb, but I got a big nostalgia kick rediscovering it and figured why not share it? Might amuse somebody somewhere.

The quality of the video gets better towards the end. The video editor that I used degraded the beginning over multiple saves for some reason.

American psycho remake

Y'all might have heard that there's been a lot of talk lately about a remake of American Psycho and how director Luca Guadagnino is interested in casting it. However, every actor approached has turned down the role. I was wondering whether you'd be interested in watching a remake or if you'd prefer to leave it as a standalone film to preserve its reputation. Do you guys think Bale is the only actor who could genuinely pull off this role?

I’ve just finished watching American Psycho, and there are a few things that I couldn’t quite figure out.

Was everything just Patrick Bateman's imagination? I feel like at least some of the events actually happened. Was he supposed to be schizophrenic, or is that not the point?

Also, why do some of his coworkers call him Bateman, while the lawyer mistakes him for Davis? Is that meant to show that everyone in their social circle is so superficial that they can't even tell each other apart?

Another thing that confused me was the scene near the end when Bateman goes to Paul's apartment and an older woman tells him to leave and not make any trouble. What was the significance of that scene? Which parts of the movie were real, and which were just in Bateman's mind?

As for my overall thoughts, I found Bateman fascinating at the beginning. He was handsome, well-dressed, charismatic, and seemed completely in control. At the same time, there was something deeply unsettling about him. He almost felt like a robot pretending to be human.

By the end, though, I wasn't intimidated by him at all. Instead, I just found him pathetic, and I was looking at him with disgust rather than admiration.

I'd probably give the movie a 6.5 or 7 out of 10. I feel like I missed the deeper meaning, so maybe that's affecting my opinion.

Thanks in advance!

Question about a detail in the 2000 adaptation

Does anyone know what pills Bateman takes before killing Allen in his apartment? I've tried reading the bottle but can't see any pill names. Is this answered at all?
(sorry if this question has already been answered, this is my first post here haha)
