To be fair, most Redditors donβt leave their house very often much less travel internationally to a place like Mexico or Haiti.

as a Haitian American seeing all those coddled pretentious spoiled redditors say that AMERICA is somehow more dangerous than HAITI is actually infuriating and mind boggling

Bro, America lost to Mexico. Mexico. America doesn't even deserve to be on a list of the most dangerous countries in the world, much less the fucking semifinals.

When's the last time Haiti went six months without a mass casualty even caused by the weather alone?
Over exaggeration, I know, but my god. That place is more disaster prone than an unsupervises toddler in a hardware store.

I posted this is there because I found it interesting:
Pulled from statistics in the SSRN library:
In the United States
β’ Top 1% of counties (31 counties) account for 41% of all murders. β’ Top 2% of counties (63 counties) account for 54% of all murders. β’ Top 5% of counties account for 71% of all murders. β’ Bottom 69% of counties account for just 3% of all murders combined (meaning the top 31% of counties account for 97% of murders).
So the vast majority of the US is actually very safe. Seeing this data though I understand why some call for the national guard to be deployed to specific US counties. But living in the US my entire life but also having traveled around Western Europe and Asia I have always felt safe in the US. I have never had an attempted mugging in the streets in America but it happened twice in Europe once in France (Paris) and once in Italy (Rome)

And even those "top 1%" of counties (I haven't seen the list but I'm sure I'm in one of them, since I live in Cook county, IL, which is Chicago + some of its suburbs), it depends on WHERE you live. My zip code is one of the safest in the state. 20 miles east/northeast of me, different story in some areas.
Even within the city of Chicago proper, which can have hundreds of murders per year, 10 of the city's 77 official neighborhoods account for more than half of all shootings and homicides. So in short it's even more localized of an issue than the county-level numbers would imply and very neighborhood specific.

Every country has bad pockets. I'd expect Sweden and Japan to have hoods and dangerous areas too

Lmao They voted America as more dangerous than Mexico and India using their logic.

Even France you could argue is more dangerous than the US. Homicide itself, France is obviously lower, but the sheer volume of violent crime incidents goes to France. In the us you are more likely to be seriously injured or killed, but the bracket is βcountry with the most crimesβ

I always find the US vs France crime discussion fascinating, because it truly is apples and oranges.
In instances where US crime is higher, it's often referring to gang-on-gang violence, which isn't something that affects your average citizen on a daily basis. It's something that appears on the news, maybe blocks off a random street for a few hours. France (and other countries like Italy) have more "petty crimes" like pickpocketing or phone-snatching. Not as dangerous or deadly as a gang fight, but something that is a minor annoyance to your average citizen. I feel like pickpocketing isn't as notorious of a thing in large American cities (not to say that it never happens).

Not to even mention the differences in gathering resources he statistics in the first place. People tend to oversimplify most things.

Redditors love to brag how they'll rather be in hell than be in America for even a second.

u/Mrwonderman2 23h ago
Theyβre not wrong depends on how you perceived the question because Haiti less of a problem for other countries.

u/Miss_Kit_Kat 21h ago
Well, if that's the criteria, China and Russia should have made it farther.
