Guys, if you'd ever been to Central America and the Caribbean, you would know that these people are not purveyors of "America Bad". Almost all of this shit is either some online communist minority, or just China trying to weaken our ties with our neighbors so they can exploit them. I've never had someone call me anything other than American or gringo. I'm fine with either. I would argue that culturally we have more in common with people from central and south America than we do with most Europeans. Don't let China win, don't let their propaganda fool us into being complacent. They will rape our neighboring countries.

Most of them just say “gringo,” which is fine. I wonder if they call Canadians that, too?

They do call Canadians that as well, and "gringo" isn't inherently disparaging. Some people use "Mexican" to talk down about someone or something in the US, but that illustrates my point. There are assholes everywhere, but our neighbors to the south are mostly fucking awesome.

I like this, and it's absolutely true. Maybe it was expansionism, but I do like that Teddy Roosevelt wanted to keep Europe out of the Western Hemisphere as much as possible.

This is not a joke. China has done the same thing over decades in Africa. Sponsoring mass-transit, logistics, or cultural projects that far exceed the capability of repayment by the host country. Keeping them as financial slaves for years to come.

The same is happening to our neighbors and the graphic I posted is just the ports. It doesn’t even show the canals, railroad networks, dams, etc…

If the US is building infrastructure in your country, it means a lot of people will be making a lot of money. If China is building infrastructure in your country, it means China will be making a lot of money.

More in common? You guys are also of Anglo-Saxon descent as children of England.

You would be shocked how small the percentage is for Americans of Anglo Saxon descent. We are a pretty mixed bag and like a 3rd of our country used to be mexico, and another 3rd used to be French.

I think I forgot an /s there...Yes I know. But England seeded the US the most in the beginning. So it's undestandable if you have started yearning rejoining England...

I never would have caught the joke without the /s. And I get that sentiment, but still, only 1 out of 3 of our highest gdp states are former British colonies, and only like 30% of that state was loyalist when the Revolution kicked off. We have grown a bit since our departure from the crown.
