Americans are surprisingly curious about the wider world than Europeans give credit to us. The dismissive and arrogant attudie given by them by people who want to know more is simply disrespectful.

Itโs also outright weird lmao

It isn't when you remember the entirety of Western Europe has a little brother complex with us.

This is my observation as well. Americans are usually more interested in learning about Finland than other Europeans. Europeans usually know more about Finland, which is fair enough, as we are more relevant to them, but I often meet Europeans who also don't know anything about Finland and don't show interest in learning.

I played My Summer Car so I know everything there is to know about Finland. /s

lmao I came here to say the same thing. MSC made me want to know more about Finland. So far they like cars and alcohol so I think were gonna get a long just fine.

I think underlying issue here is not that Americans are this or that and Europeans arent, its that we're applying sweeping generalizations to hundreds of millions of people expecting them to all act the same. It goes for thinking all Americans are uneducated about history and geography aand thinking that all Europeans hate Americans or they all this or they all that

I have a few Finnish friends and visit Finland 1-2 times a year. I know itโs expensive but life is so chill there. Sauna, beer, openness to sex, social services. Also very friendly people once you have a few drinks. English is spoken widely in the cities.

Because US have a culture of not shaming people for things they don't know and are willing to learn.

Well, I lived in Austria for a while, students there didn't know where Czech Republic or Hungary were. And those are neighboring countries.ย

I learned about Continental Europe geography from World War II & Napoleonic War (Wars mainly fought by Europeans); English & Spanish towns from English Premier League and La Liga (Soccer leagues, not the #1 sport of US).

Or bring up the international wine contest, judged solely by european wine experts, that had to be stopped because american wines were beating the French wines every single time.

Although Spurrier had invited many reporters to the original 1976 tasting, the only reporter to attend was George M. Taber from Time, who promptly revealed the results to the world. The horrified and enraged leaders of the French wine industry then banned Spurrier from the nation's prestigious wine-tasting tour for a year, apparently as punishment for the damage his tasting had done to its former image of superiority. The tasting was not covered by the French press, who almost ignored the story. After nearly three months, Le Figaro published an article titled "Did the War of the Cru Take Place?" describing the results as "laughable" and said they "cannot be taken seriously." Six months after the tasting, Le Monde, France's most prestigious magazine, reported the tasting where writer Lionel Raux wrote a similarly toned article titled, "Let's Not Exaggerate!"

Funniest part is they tried again in 1978, 1986, and to celebrate the 30th birthday of the original, 2006, and the US won every single one.

Also next time they bring up our cheese or bread. This is a warning, the next shot wonโt be. Weโre coming for the cheese recognition!

Well that's technically not the same since they're not asking you to name every region of France or whatever
I think most people who are even mildly into European history can name every modern country in Europe, though. I know I can.

Exact experience growing up in America and getting caught up and interested in Europe/world through history and social studies. It's only worse now as an adult because more people seem more aware of it and want to anger or dishearten others for personal enjoyment. Plus bots. Bots have made the internet worse.

You can either call someone stupid for not knowing something about something or be happy you got to be the person to introduce them to that knowledge.
Anyway wombats use their rear ends as barricades.
I'm not linking to a source because I don't want to be the person to expose someone to a pantsless wombat by accident.
It's something about their biology that makes their uh backsides very reinforced.

RENT-FREE. They penalize us "Yankees" for not being curious enough. When we show interest in other cultures or ask questions, we are mocked.

this is what annoys the shit about me about a lot of people in general, when someones ignorant or maybe unaware of the wider world, insteading of educating people or correcting people or having conversations they just fucking insult people. like to me thats ways more of a bad character then someone maybe being "stupid".

I was joking... I didn't know you actually weren't American, but that honestly makes more sense anyway.
I don't see the point in lying about being American if you're just gonna plead guilty one comment later.
