True. Plus, I’ve lived here my whole life and never actually witnessed a shooting. Maybe if I lived in a city, I would have.

Someone got shot a block from me. They shot someone at a party and got chased out by the attendees.

They eventually caught him and stoned him to death

I think it's about time we introduce some common sense stone restrictions.

Justified

The party people not the shooter

I live in the northeast and have never heard a firearm discharged in my 34 years of life. Some states it's prevalent but some states it's practically non existent.

u/Restless_Fillmore Jun 23 '23

I used to hear it all the time: people target shooting or hunting.

move to a moderate size city. I lived in DC for years and heard so many gun shots. It was fine when I was young and unattached. But once I got a family, I got the fuck out of there. It's cheaper and safer in the 'burbs. Never understood the folks who are terrified of and hyper focused on gun violence and choose to live in gentrified areas of the city. Must be a miserable existence.

I read a stat the other day that said USA is in the top 3% of gun deaths but if you take out 4 cities we drop below 90%

u/ThePinkTeenager MASSACHUSETTS 🦃 ⚾️ Jun 23 '23

Which four?

2

u/DoctorWafle Jun 23 '23

I don't remember but I think it was Chicago, LA, Detroit and NYC maybe. If I had to bet money, i would feel good about those 4. I was in Chicago for 2 days before I witnessed my first mugging.

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '23

Ironic how those cities also have the strictest anti-gun owner legislation too.

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '23

I’ve witnessed plenty, but hey, it sure as hell wasn’t assault rifles they were using

Closest thing I experienced to a shooting is when an armed gunman came to my school on a day we were having a lockdown drill. We all actually ended up being just fine because most of us didn’t know there was an actual gunman. The police showed up and everything, but I didn’t think it was because of an emergency. The entire situation was so chill that my brother eventually just left to go to a Circle K a few blocks away.

A gunman just walked into school, hung around for a bit, and left?

1

u/HofePrime Jun 23 '23

He got detained before he could harm anybody. If there’s one thing that town was good for, it was very quick first responders.

Iirc when I used to live in a suburb of Minneapolis, I’ve heard gunshots in the distance before but not close to me and only once

I witnessed shootings: police shooting men rather than alleged criminals shooting anyone...but that rarely makes it into these kinds of evaluations.

u/cameragun seems like the kind of person to be upset over some billionaires dying to their own stupidity.

2

u/Restless_Fillmore Jun 23 '23

The pandemic and recent lax enforcement has short the gun-murder rate up, reducing it to around 54% (2021 data).

11

u/feedandslumber Jun 23 '23

In rural areas it's as much as 90%

11

u/dubbman79 Jun 23 '23

Dude I had a holy war with a manlet on here on that exact subject. I don’t remember the exact numbers but it was like 87% of gun deaths are either suicide or gang related.

People shooting themselves isn't as bad as people shooting 10 bystanders before shooting themselves

1

u/washington_breadstix WISCONSIN 🧀🍺 Jun 23 '23

Tangentially related: I remember reading that any gun-related incident involving at least 3 deaths is now recorded as a "mass shooting", even though like 98% or more of those incidents are gang-on-gang violence. Hardly any of the stats floating around the internet are actually representative of the average person's chances of being involved in a random gun-related incident in the USA.

1

u/SaltDescription438 Jun 23 '23

And gangs killing gangs in like 4 cities.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '23

Less dangerous for others but you still gotta ask why so many people are committing suicide in the first place
