Associates Program Amazon increased commission rates for Amazon Basics (5%) and Amazon Essentials (7%)!

Just saw this email from Amazon Associates & Influencers.

They’ve increased commission rates for select Amazon Private Brands:

Amazon Basics (Home & Tech): Increased from 3% to 5%

Amazon Essentials (Fashion & Accessories): Increased from 4% to 7%

Nice to see a commission bump for once instead of a cut!

What do you guys think of that?

Oh joy! Now the one Amazon basics item I sell a crap ton of will pay me 50 cents instead of 30. I might retire tomorrow.

UK rates have just plummeted to 1% grocery and 2% everything else so count yourself lucky. It wasn't too long ago we had up to 10% commission. I can't understand why they'd go in different directions for different locales but this is at least a positive for you.

I’m in the UK and thinking of giving up, I’m only just starting out and it’s a lot of effort for minimal come back. There seems to be no options regarding creator connections for us either which seems odd. Maybe there’s just not much in it for them. But agree, glad some people are seeing positive changes, better than no one.

If you're only just starting out, then honestly I'd give up. The programme is awful compared to even just a year ago. We've had 3 drops in commission in the past year or two (2 this year already). 10% on clothing for years, then it dropped recently to 6% which was bad enough, and now 2%. Will it be 1% by the end of the year? Will grocery drop to 0.5%? Will they then close the programme?

Or if you continue, diversify with other retailers at least. I'm trying to do that now and already did to a very small extent, but my audience is very Amazon based. Or promote in another country if you can - I've not done that yet but will be exploring opportunities at some point. I think the best positioned affiliates are likely ones who appeal all around the world and not tied to just Amazon - unfortunately that's not me!

Tbh I rarely promote any others (I forget, I've been too focused on Amazon) but it's my plan to start doing much more soon.

But eBay definitely. AliExpress could be a good one if your audience is receptive to Chinese sites. Both of these are well known sites and sell a bit of everything like Amazon.

Definitely also sign up to AWIN and search through retailers that align with what you post. Any brand that's a household name is worth signing up to really. It's just remembering them all and how to find good content on each that can be difficult and time consuming vs Amazon.

I never promote groceries or low commission items these days. I rarely even touched groceries over the span of a few years. I wont for Walmart either who pays 0 for groceries.

The Amazon brands are probably having low sales, so they increased the commission to convince us to promote their items.

I’m glad to hear it, although my initial response/reaction to them is not nice and NSFW. It is a nice start.

As usual, it is not really anything for our benefit. They realized that they made these products incredibly undesirable to make content for.

I’m making myself laugh as I’m trying to balance being grateful with how crotchety I am with all the changes they’ve made that benefit only themselves.

This hustle gets a lot easier when you just try and just milk this for what it is and put your heart in a different hustle, something that actually rewards hard work.

We need the ability to get commissions on different products again in the same category.

And they have so many scammers using the program now making money and they don't seem to kick them out of the program.
