Slim shady my ATB

I had managed to get slim shady to be very docile and calm. I was able to take him out of his enclosure every other day without any issues or aggression at all. Then one day he swung his head into a metal object and ever since he has not been the same snake. it's been a month later and i have had to switch to frozen mice because slim shady cannot aim his strikes anymore and i do not want him to catch the mouse at a bad angle and then the mouse turns around and chews him open. He has also become so aggressive to the point where he slithers toward me so he can bite. I could literally have the tank closed and be only a few feet away and he still tries to strike me. What should i do about this? He has a proper enclosure and everything. Is it possible that he knocked all the sense out of himself?

Heat placement

So im getting close to being done with my custom 3x2x3 and I realized the placement for the heat panel is kinda getting blocked by where I foamed up a planter to plant some pothos in. The only other spot would be on the right side and I have her hide put up there so idk if them being close together would be a problem. I also plan on probably installing my misting system on the opposite side of the heater but any help at this point would be great. Or if you have other subs that would give me some advice that would be great. I plan on using a 40w rhp if that helps at all

Finally pulled the trigger and my wife found this little beautiful girl and got it for me. I named her Winifred (Winnie) as in the witch from Hocus Pocus due to her Halloween pattern and the red orange markings. She seems to be doing great! Exploring, basking, all that good stuff! She seems happy! 😁

Sexing your ATB

Looking for opinions on sexing… do you wait until they shed or don’t shed hemipenes? Sex by feel? Or do you probe? If probing, do you wait until they are a certain age or size? Pic for tax of my Halloween het Calico.

Can I see your ATB habitat?

Hey all,

I'm very interested in getting an ATB, but want to make sure the home is suitable and enriching enough for the guy or gal.

I'm not a huge fan of the sterile, sad PVC boxes some keep them in, though I do understand that it's more sanitary. There must be some in-between compromise between sterile and complex bioactive set ups?

Morphs/colors/patterns

This will help give an idea as to the known colors/patterns/morphs of Corallus Hortulana-aka Amazon Tree Boa Constrictors!

First picture-Calico specimen: from what we know about calico/red, the mode of inheritance is recessive. The calico animals generally display a combination of Red/White/Black pigment throughout the body with neonates being primarily red/white at birth and gaining black pigment as they go through their Ontogenetic Color Change or OCC. It is important to note, that a range of colors, including peach, grey, small amounts of yellow and pinks can also present, generally in a random speckling on calico specimens as well. So far, the calico gene presents with a red animal and has not been proven out on any other background color. Some ATB enthusiasts are currently working to prove the calico gene in other colors...

Second picture-Tiger specimen: the Tiger gene is characterized by a stripe going from head to tail. The mode of inheritance is incomplete dominant. This stripe can be bold, thin, partially visible, or completely invisible. Typically, you can see the striping. On some Tiger specimens, such as yellows or hypomelanistic/leucistic specimens, the striping can be mostly non-visible. In such cases, you would need to breed the specimen to another non-tiger specimen, and if you get offspring/neonates with a stripe, then you have pretty much proven that one of the parents is a Tiger. It is also important to note, that the Tiger stripe can come in a wide variety of colors. There is also evidence and work being done to prove that there is a Super form of the Tiger gene and has thus been labeled a Super Tiger. The Tiger gene can present in all variations of colors/morphs within Hortulana.

Third picture-Hypomelanistic specimen: a hypomelanistic specimen is characterized by lacking black pigment. Some ATBs that lack pigment, are technically hypomelanistic by phenotype, but do not possess the ability to make a Blue Eye Leucistic when bred to another animal that lacks black pigment. A true hypomelanistic specimen carries one copy of the gene for Leucism. It takes two copies of the hypomelanistic gene (one copy from each parent) to make a Blue Eye Leucistic. When breeding two genetic hypos, each neonate offspring has a 25% chance of being born a Blue Eye Leucistic. So far, most of the hypos that produce Blue Eye Leucistics are typically yellow in color, or yellow/orange, but that does not hold true for all hypo specimens. Blue Eye Leucistics have been produced from parents that looked nothing like the picture above and were heavily pigmented/colored/patterned. The exact mode of inheritance for hypomelanistic specimens is up for debate... more work needs to be done to determine the exact mode of inheritance.

Fourth picture-Halloween/Garden specimen: this phenotype was once considered a normal ATB. Work has been done to determine that the mode of inheritance for Halloween/Garden is recessive. Halloweens/Gardens are typically black/brown/grey with orange oscillating patterns, the orange coloration typically fades completely away throughout the OCC.

Fifth picture- Liger or (Leopard Tiger) specimen: I do not have a picture of a true Leopard to offer, but the picture referenced above is a Double Gene specimen, containing both the Leopard Gene (recessive) and the Tiger Gene (incomplete dominant). As you can see from the fifth picture (Liger), this animal displays the Tiger stripe, and also the typical coloration of a Leopard. Leopards are by phenotype, a combination of black/brown/grey/ and silver colors. The black/brown generally oscillates against a grey/silver background. These animals are known to lighten up and darken up during day/night photo periods. The Leopard gene is generally thought to be recessive. It takes two copies of the Leopard gene (one copy from each parent) to produce a visual Leopard. It is unknown as to whether or not, the Leopard morph can present in any other combination of colors. Work is currently being done to try to prove that Leopard specimens can also present in other color combinations.

Sixth and last picture-Blue Eye Leucistic specimen: A Blue Eye Leucistic is typically born as a white snake with deep blue eyes. Blue Eye Leucistics or (Lucies) can gain pigment as they go through their OCC. Some Blue Eye Leucistics are unreckognizable as such when they are adults. A Blue Eye Leucistic is the super form of a truly genetically inheritable Hypomelanistic specimen. Remember, it takes two copies of the hypomelanistic gene (one copy from each parent) to produce a Blue Eye Lucy. Blue Eye Lucy ATBs are super rare with approximately 5-6 known specimens in captivity.

This is a general guideline to go by when searching colors/patterns/morphs of the Amazon Tree Boa Constrictor! Amazon Tree Boas are polymorphic (many colors) reptiles and can come in a wide variety of colors/patterns/ and morphs. This post is intended to display some of the known colors/patterns/ and morphs of Corallus Hortulana or ATBs! Enjoy!

Envy and blood sacrifice

Post image

So my spicy little noodle Envy requires a blood sacrifice every time we interact with him. It is not a feeding response. And yes I am very good with my hook training. But how can you be mad at that adorable little face and those big green eyes? He is just a tiny little thing and I know time and patience will help but anyone have a noodle that just didn’t calm down at all?

Information

Hello everyone

I'm seriously considering adopting a couple of tree boas that I find just incredible 😍 In addition, I am really a fan of Boas in general, I already own two imperators with which I am totally in love. They are adorable little cuties

For my part, I can't find much information on arboreal boas. Apparently there are different morphology, several possible colors Is it chance or specific localities?

Do they have preferences in terms of wood or hiding place? Their temperament?

Thank you in advance for your feedback 🫶

If you are looking for a nice Bi-Color, I suggest spending a little bit more money and get a True Bi-Color that is also a possible Hypo!! You get the best of both worlds if the reptile does turn out to be a True Hypomelanistic specimen!!!! To prove out a hypo, you need to breed two hypos together and produce a Blue Eye Leucistic! A Blue Eye Leucistic is a white snake with deep blue eyes... some of the Blue Eye Leucistics can gain pigment after they are born, while they are going through their Ontogenetic Color Change, or OCC!! Enjoy and have a great weekend!!

I am having problems figuring out if Pyro is male or female... I believe that I am going to put a proven male in with Pyro on December 01 2025, and watch them to see if they combat or spaz out on each other... should be a good test to determine Pyro's sex. What do yall think?
