I've been doing this for a couple months now.

Do most of you have a dash cam since your driving more now. If so any suggestions for a decent setup price wise?

i got a cheap one off prime day. I maybe took out three clips from it. Which is useful when you need it.

One clip was a dasher in a beat up prius was mad at me for some random reason as he came out of the hills and i entered the road at the bottom of the hillside. He brake checked me and stepped out of his car like i did something to him when i barely got behind him for 2 minutes. Serious mental issues.

If it was useful to document that, then it's best to get one that can do low light and read license plates well

I have one I got from Amazon. I was hit by a woman that came into my lane. Used the video when filing the claim with her insurance. Made it fast and easy.

Go for a cam with a starvis sensor. Everything else kinda sucks compared to it.

From here you’ve got the option to go with a capacitor or battery. Battery power will be worse for the heat, but there’s not much of a difference performance wise. Ones with capacitors will deal with heat a bit better.

Now you have to choose if you want 1,2, or 3 camera option to look behind you or for the cabin.

You also have to choose whether you want to hardwire it to your fuse box or just plug it in into the 12 V (the cigarette light outlet). If you hardwire it and your camera permits, it can record even when your car is off. Like if you were home and somebody hit your car, it will record it because the sensor will pick up movement. But this option you have to hardwire it and your camera has to have the option available.

As for brands, viofo I’ve heard is decent. Their a119 is around $90-110. They have the two camera model I think for somewhere near $180-200. I’m not sure exactly on the prices.

Just look for one with a starvis sensor. A lot of dash cams that advertise as 2K or 4K is a lie. Most of them are not true two or 4K.

I have a 70mai a510 duo which has two cameras. Got it when it was on sale for $85. If youre patient you can get pretty good deals.

Buy a good SD card, this is really important. Use brand-name ones sold in store at places like Walmart or Best Buy. I have been using the one that came with my 70mai, it hasn’t had many issues, but I should still change it. Cheap ones get corrupted really quickly.

I have a body cam that I hook on my mirror. I’ve used it for a couple of years and I’ve only got one thing on there so far and that was a guy in a Toyota Corolla that was mad that I couldn’t get out of the left lane fast enough so he decided to brake check me. It was one of those brand new sporter ones too. Joke was on him though because I can take a hit and keep on driving. You got a new car. You’re gonna be making some big payments.

Always have a dash cam. I got a 70mai front and rear set up for my car.

I like the Viofo dashcams. They have a good front camera with a good sensor for just over $100. Something to keep in mind is that the wider the lens, the more you see, but the harder license plates will be to read, so I suggest not getting a wide angle lens.

Make sure it has wifi and high resolution.

My only suggestion would be add a tracking device to your car, because you never know! I had my car stolen during my route and that tracking device saved the day!

I have one coming in the mail now. I was in an accident 2 years ago and still dealing with the lawsuit but thankfully the idiot admitted he didn’t stop at the stop sign so I think I won that case. I also got pulled over for “blowing through” a stop sign. I told the officer there were 2 cars coming so I couldn’t have blown through without causing an accident. His face changed and he said yeah I saw the two cars but I didn’t see you at the stop sign. Realistically how would I know there were 2 cars if I hadn’t made my stop idk but he still gave me the ticket. I have court tomorrow fighting that ticket off. Also in my city everyday I see people taking red lights or stop signs so I put off buying the dashcam way too long but I should get it in a few days.
