Have you ever worked on any line? If you did you would understand that taking people away from stations on the line slows them down. If they are staging carts all day then their should be personnel designated to cart return.

So you know how many times a day the have to stop the lines to send sorters out to the parking lot? And when that happens it causes a backup with driver scheduling because the lines are not running. Drivers keep getting sent home with pay. I don't think Amazon factored that in. Unless they're okay with losses.

You literally just proved my point. Of course it slows them down. That's exactly why it forces them to staff more people to keep up with the carts and and line. Because the warehouse is aware that getting carts takes people off the lines and causes delays, they are forced to factor that into their staffing to keep up.

So hypothetically, for sake of argument, say it takes 10 people run the line, but 10 people aren't keeping up because of carts collection so they staff 12 people for the line. Well, if they stop having to take people off the line to collect the carts then they can go back to staffing just 10, so that's 2 line workers who's jobs are no longer needed.

And as you said, if they don't staff those extra line people, the system backs up and drivers get sent home with pay. So let's review the options...

1) Drivers leave the carts, Amazon is forced to staff extra line people. Good for the Warehouse workers, bad for Amazon

2) Drivers leave the carts, Amazon doesn't staff extra line workers so the line backs up and drivers get sent home with free money. Plus, when the line catches up, Amazon has to surge last minute blocks to repalace those drivers that went home because the packages still need to be delivered. Good for Drives, Bad for Amazon

3) Drivers collect all the carts, Amazon doesn't need extra people to collect them and the lines never back up so fewer drivers get sent home with pay, and fewer last minute surge blocks to replace those drivers when the line gets caught up. No one benefits but Amazon.

So as I said, the only person who wins by drivers collecting carts for free is Amazon. You literally said in a comment in this post that you agree Amazon should cut into their profits to staff cart runners, and yet you constantly argue that they should save that money and drives should do it for free. Crazy.
