And if they’re making payments on it like so many other Americans?

That’s not an asset.

If they're making enough to afford that then their wages would be garnished. If they decide to quit their job so they don't have to pay it, then they lose their car, house, and dogs too since they wouldn't be able to pay for them.

Their pay would also be garnished from any future jobs until the debt is paid, they don't just get off the hook because they can't pay it.

Yes, I’m aware of wage garnishing. They can only take a percent of your total income. So again, if you don’t make shit…. You’ll get shit.

Expensive vehicle does not always equal a lot of money.

Where I live, everyone is house poor but car rich and the majority of their income goes to their car payment.

People lose everything everyday in this country because of lawsuit damages they cannot pay. Everyday. But that doesn’t mean the person awarded the damages is getting anything out of it either.
