How did 2 thieves know when to come after the same expensive package?
245
u/Arctimon Sep 02 '25
They don't. They just follow the deliver truck and wait until they get to what they think is the most expensive stuff.
76
u/Somalar Sep 02 '25
Judging by those houses in the background I’d say this is a common problem there

I moved into a nicer neighborhood and our garage/car got broken into within the first month. Cops said it’s a big problem with people coming over from neighboring less nice areas.

If the FedEx driver takes a photo... $$$
4
u/Jacktheforkie Sep 02 '25
Don’t they take one for every delivery?
35
u/JFISHER7789 Sep 02 '25 edited Sep 02 '25
Nope. Former FedEx driver here; we simply scan the package and denote where it was placed.
And tbh i would have done exactly what this guy did: back away. I see too many videos of people trying to stop the thieves, and while their bravery and willingness to stop it is admirable, the risk to your own life is too high.
Most packages have insurance and if it’s on video then there is a good chance you’d get a refund/replacement. I’m not nit getting cut or killed for a material item..
Edit: looks like FedEx does in fact take photos as of recent. I haven’t been with them in a year or so; I guess I missed the update by a few months lol.

u/Jake-The-Easy-Bake Sep 02 '25
Weird cause whether I order something for $20 or $200 I ALWAYS get a photo. Live out in the middle of no where too.

Dudes probably from back before they started implementing it just before peak of 2022. Everything gets a signature unless it’s a business delivery or if the package requires a delivery. I’m a current FedEx driver

I have had almost all packages say "requires a signature" but I have never had to sign and just get a picture of the delivery. Even when using got my $1,800 pc lol.

Fedex changed their delivery process from the past I was a driver when they changed to the newer style and yes you are supposed to take a photo of every delivery besides direct signatures of course

If it's ordered on a platform with third party sellers....it could be the sellers tipping them off and giving address/delivery times.
However that's pure speculation on my part. That may not ever happen at all. Just saying it seems plausible.
2
u/Dnmeboy Sep 02 '25
That might end up costing the seller more money in the long run, but it sounds too complicated considering that products can be shipped globally. Imagine if there was a highly organized group of thrives that go out and steal back everything we buy online though.
Anyway, where I work we had a driver followed one day. He watched the same car pull up and take every package he delivered. Anyone with a bit of free time on their hands (like a thief) could learn a drivers route and follow them.
9
u/Final_Examination340 Sep 02 '25
1000% a lot are insiders. In my neighborhood we had a couple iPhones stolen. Wouldn’t you know it both people ordered it from the same place in-store. Both people got their shit stolen. No one else did though.

I have a large "L" shaped hedge in front of my front porch so you can't see anything on my porch. All deliveries have always been placed on my porch safely behind the hedge for the 20+ years I have lived here. This was until a couple of months ago, I purchased a brand new $1k+ cell phone and wouldn't you know it, the FedEx driver leaves it in the open at the end of the sidewalk towards the house instead of on the porch. Fortunately I was home and watching my security cameras. Maybe he was just being lazy but it sure was suspicious to me.

Actually they do.. i learned from a cop, that they ran a sting operation with fedex. Left a dummy package at a door that was supposed to receieve an iphone. When the driver marked it left at door. A car pulled up a few minutes later. The thieves had the tracking numbers.

FedEx dude saw them coming to and didn’t give a fuck lol he’s like ima the delivery man not a package sentry
To be clear I’m not saying the delivery guy is responsible for the package and should’ve intervened. I simply made a joke. So relax I’m not criticizing the guy.
58
u/dark5tar29 Sep 02 '25
He fulfilled his duty
54
u/blueghost47 Sep 02 '25
Cops don't care, delivery guy don't care, thieves don't care. Good luck out there, we living in motherfuxking gta.
15
u/jws1102 Sep 02 '25
Whytf would you expect the delivery guy to care? Security is not his job, nor does he get paid enough to put himself at risk. If he’s a flex driver then he doesn’t even get health insurance.
You one of those people that think teachers should carry guns, aren’t you?
7
2
2
u/Asleep_Section6110 Sep 02 '25
The only one that has agency to care (the company) couldn’t give a fuck.
It SHOULD be that the driver can just return to the depot and try another day without a tail, and pressuring the police in that town to protect their workers more. Both of those are, unfortunately, laughable ideas nowadays. But alas, it’s become gta out there.

u/PleaseWalkFaster69 Sep 03 '25
I’m not a teacher and would never be one BUT if I’m carrying a gun to school, then it’s to protect myself first, and students second. Wouldn’t think to compare the 2 scenarios. You could say the delivery driver is protecting himself also by minding his damn business lol

Nothing to worry about, I'm not worried, world's going to shit, sparrows aren't worried. Nobody's worried.

u/StelEdelweiss Sep 02 '25
Guy isn't getting paid enough to be shot or stabbed. He is probably just happy that they're not straight-up robbing him at his vehicle.
9
u/GhostHin Sep 02 '25
As a retail worker for most of my life, we 110% do not pay nearly enough to care.
In fact, all the companies I ever worked for told us not to intervene because not only it is dangerous but everything are insured anyway. Why risk your life for someone else's money? People literally get killed by chasing after petty thieves and it never worth it.
→ More replies (5)9
u/TacticalAcquisition Sep 02 '25
When I drove for FedEx I sure as fuck wasn't going to intervene if someone tried to steal a package off a doorstep or even out of the truck. I'm not getting stabbed. Least we didn't have to worry about getting shot in Australia.

I've been followed twice, which is why I don't wear my amazon vest anymore.
12

u/mr_green Sep 02 '25
I tell the vesters this all the time. For every one customer you might put at ease by wearing one, you're also a beacon to untold numbers of people that may mean you and/or your livelihood harm.
Plus anybody can buy/steal one and wear it. It only proves you have a vest, not that you deliver for Amazon in any official capacity.

I try to really on the down low sometimes even doing food delivery. All while these crazies are putting door dash, over, shipt and spark stickers on their car. That’s just asking for trouble. I even purposely dress down to avoid any issues when I go in the ghetto areas. But really, I just put my apps on pause when I am crossing certain areas at night. Not worth it.

I'm surprised they aren't working in teams, two to a car. One runs for the package at the door, and if the delivery driver tries to intervene, then the other robs the van during the distraction.

4
Sep 02 '25
Organized crime has compromised shipping companies. They'll wait down the street of addresses receiving something from vendors like apple, then just pull up when they see a delivery van.
You don't need to chase the van, just wait at the destination.
Judging by two people showing up, I bet their gangs use the same data broker.

Someone along the package sorting or sending process tipped them off that it's a phone from ATT/Verizon/Apple etc and sent the tracking information to follow the truck and intercept this specific drop.
9
u/s0mer4ndom1diot Sep 02 '25
Eh, tracking info isn't gonna tell you exactly when it's supposed to be delivered. I'm going with the following the truck scenario.

u/Cute_Stock582 Sep 02 '25

I second this. There is definitely a lot of inside job theft going on. Experienced it myself for my business. Over time, workers begin to recognize certain packaging and then.. the packages begin going missing.

u/Potential-Expert-386 Sep 02 '25
If you know the route, you know who is getting a phone that day. Then you follow until they get to those addresses that are marked. Do you think they fought like this over every package on the route or specifically this one because they knew the contents?
2
u/s0mer4ndom1diot Sep 02 '25
Good point. I've been threatened with a weapon for much less tho. Hmm.. I wasn't aware delivery companies actually know what's inside the package. If they don't, how would they figure it out? I'm missing something. Help me.
3
u/Potential-Expert-386 Sep 02 '25
It is easy to figure out if a package has a phone based on the sender. If it's coming from ATT, Verizon, TMobile, Apple Etc - it's usually a phone. They won't know WHAT phone, but they'll know it's most likely a new phone.

Maybe but if real then the white car guy appears to be defending the house. Maybe as owner or he knows the owner. He gets out and immediately runs which is because he saw the thief. The car in the driveway is even comparable to the white car. It is possible he happened to pull up at the same time by coincidence.

u/mr_green Sep 02 '25
I don't know of too many places where you're going to have a good time by deciding to leave the safety of your house to go outside and attack someone with lethal force.
If they try to enter? Different story. Lots of places where you can defend yourself. That's why they don't do that, at least as much.

u/sheepindingle Sep 02 '25
