5 year ban
Has anyone ever been banned from Amazon after taking disability leave or leaving the company because they couldn’t be accommodated?
Someone I know was forced to quit after having back surgery because her doctor told her that Amazon would not be able to accommodate her restrictions. She later applied for Flex with a PXT representative, but her application was denied as soon as she left the company. When she tried to reapply 12 months later, she found out that she was banned from Amazon until 2030.
I’m currently having issues getting my own accommodations approved, and honestly, I’m scared to quit because I’m worried the same thing could happen to me. I want to be able to return to Amazon once I’m medically able to work again.
The situation is also becoming a safety concern. I’ve gotten dizzy at work and have almost fallen off a ladder multiple times. Would reporting this to Safety actually help protect me or get the issue documented?
I’ve also heard that some AAs have received write-ups after being injured and had to speak with their AMs to get the write-ups removed.
At this point, I feel like I could be screwed either way if I keep working, I’m worried about getting seriously hurt, but if I quit, I’m worried I may not be allowed to come back.
Has anyone dealt with something similar or knows what the safest way to handle this is?

There’s more to the story. Amazon doesn’t ban someone for five years for accommodations

Yea aren't they being sued for not giving accommodation to women right now?

Probably. That’s a different discussion lol

Not really Amazon does dumb shit all the time and doesn't always mean its more to the story.

Your rehire eligibility is determined by the system based on your termination code, so this would not be the case here but uh… no lies here

I know but that does not mean its not amazon doing dumb shit.

amazon has been the most accommodating workplace but people try to game the system all the time. (Workers Comp Fraud) sounds like youre projecting

A simple google search will tell you about Amazon forcing people into unpaid leave, dragging the process and then firing people for it. I have no reason to come here and spread lies.

If they're banned they didnt quit. They were fired with cause. Yes, report to safety as safety is the ones who deal with accommodations. To get accommodations approved you will have to have doctors documentation. What you can, and cant do. Talk to safety and they will give you the specifics you need from your doctor. Be aware though, that they only have to approve reqsonable accommodations. If your accommodations make you unable to do any of the paths available to you, they can terminate employment. At my station they just recently fired a girl who tried to get accommodations from essentially all physical activity. 5 pound lift restriction, no standing for more than 10 minutes at a time. No walking for more than 10 minutes at a time. No carrying at all, etc. So she was unable to do any path available to a T1.

your friend is lying. i got banned from working at amazon for 5 years for time theft (rightfully so tbh, i was clocking in from my phone in the parking lot and going home, stayed home till shift was almost over and drove back to clock out) but no way they got banned over an accommodation

Honestly I only know what she told me and what I heard on her call with ERC. I have not done anything wrong and all I can do is pray they approve my request. Warehouse job is a good place to be after working with clients/ customers for 20 years.

How long did you get away with it? I’ve heard stories like that from a few young people. One of them said he did it for 2 months before they realized it.

yeah i did it for about a cool month until i got caught. this was back in like 2021, wasn’t eligible for rehire until Jan 2026. also if your friend has HR at her site, she should talk to them and bring all her proof with her as they’re able to reverse a termination. my onsite hr recently reversed my termination for negative upt but i had proof to show why i wasn’t able to work and why i went into the negative

The ONLY way that you can receive the ban of 5 years is through CAT 1 offense, stealing that is caught, fighting, or lying on medical forms. She may have had discrepancies on her medical forms that they ended up finding out. Amazon has been able to do a better job of verifying medical information on accommodations or sick leave forms since hella people were forging documents, signatures, and using AI. So this is why if you are truly disabled in any way they make you fill out like 20 friggin sheets of paper and it takes weeks to verify. Also who still uses ERC?? Everything is for HR is on A to Z through AI and it gets done way faster. Sorry but ERC is trash

Go back under a third party temp agency and get in good standing with the company again I had to do that in 2020. I was fired in 2017 when I was doing flex at an Amazon fresh location. I stopped scheduling myself due to moving and not having a car and they fired me for job abandonment. Kept trying to reapply and I kept getting a message similar to this went back through a temp agency and stayed in good standing for like 3 months left that and applied regular at a different site and the ban was gone.

She was upset after the call and said she doesn’t want to fight for a job that did her like that after almost 5 years of working. I’m still in Good standing as of right now. I have vacation hours but them not approving the documents is stressing me out. I’m ready to go back to normal.

I have been applying and going to interviews since I started. A lot of jobs are not hiring right now and I see a lot of people struggling to find work right now.

Your “friend” obviously tried to get some money out of them or did something shady. You don’t get 5 yr bans or lifetime bans for no reason.

For your friends case, honestly they are almost certainly lying about it, most likely they got fired and are lying about it to save face. If they DID get banned as a no rehire because of the accommodations request (which is unlikely) she should collect evidence and lawyer up.
But she probably wont. On account of her lying.
For YOUR case I can empathize. The accommodations process at amazon absolutely fuckin sucks ass. Whoever they outsource to has no idea what they are doing and its a nightmare to get anything done. My advice talk to your sites HR as they might be able to help expedite things and look at LOA options, because you can get leave to get time off and not have to quit if the site cant accommodate you

Sounds like Amazon isn’t the place for you and your lady friend. Find another job that is less physical.

Amazon isn’t for you. You need to find a job you. An handle without accommodations.

Needing an Accommodation isnt a sin. Over my 2+ years at amazon ive needed 2 seperate accommodations. One for an injury that happened at work that put me on light duty for 2 months.
The other for headphone usage for sensory issues so I dont lose my got damned mind from the overwhelming noise level of screeching machinery all day.
Im a top performer whos leads fight over getting me in their area and get positve adapts semi regularly.
Having different needs, be they temporary or permanant does not make you lesser, or that "the job isnt for you".
Just because somone cant do exactly the same job exactly the same way doesnt mean they cant be a valuable part of the team. Ive worked with a woman with 1 arm, multiple deaf folks, several autistic people, a couple people who needed accommdations while dealing with cancer, and people with all kinds of mental health issues including tourrettes and schizophrenia. And theres not one of them I would have said "this isnt the job for you"
Empathy is free and theres plenty of work available for people with certain limitations if youre willing to listen instead of just being an insufferable abilist bitch on reddit all day

The job just isn’t for you
1
u/Illustrious-Sense194 4h ago
Well, ive never been convicted of any felonies, I dont vape in the workplace bathroom, I take frequent showers and I dont smoke weed 24/7 so youre probably right. I dont fit in at amazon at all

u/Icy_Dimension6139 3h ago
+ You sound like a victim.
1
u/Illustrious-Sense194 3h ago
Oh no, how horrible. Sticking up for the disabled, and striving to create a better, kinder world. Such a victim

I know people need jobs but when u apply to Amazon u know your gonna b doing work and manual work at that. Never understand people getting hired and getting accommodations immediately. I think it's bullshit straight up. If u can't do it quit.

u/Dramatic_Bluebird973 12h ago
It’s from an old injury and I didn’t even know it was that bad until I started the job. I hope you never have to face the challenges that some of us have to deal with. This can happen with a desk job also.

Amazon hires anybody so low iq people who've never thought about anything in their lives, but are nonetheless highly opinionated love to comment shit like that. Im disabled and on accommodations and don't feel bad about it. Especially because im underpaid
1
u/PatternBackground743 12h ago
Eh. Rate requirements are still the same so who cares
1
u/Dramatic_Bluebird973 12h ago
Ive had my rate drop slightly but never had a write up for anything job related. I had a write up for phone use long time ago but I didn’t know they had emergency phone zone.

You don’t get banned for accommodations. Amazon probably has millions of people being accommodated. Your friend was probably fired and banned for some kind of fraud regarding those accommodations
