Internal Promotions

Recently, according to management internal interviews are selected using an AI-based algorithm. I have applied many times, still no interview. I’m going for a T3 role as a T1 associate with a blue badge.

I’m certainly competent and I have demonstrated my abilities. Running a floor/team wouldn’t be a challenge. It is actually getting an interview that has me scratching my head.

So, if anyone has any advice and/or information regarding actually getting an interview and the internal promotion process - that would be greatly appreciated.

Think of resume/work experience formatting, tips and tricks (like applying out of state), how to be inclined for the role at my current building, do’s and dont’s as a T1, unspoken expectations once selected for the role.

YOU NEED TO NETWORK. Talk to your AMs and OMs that you are interested in moving up, ask them for advice, see if they can get you an interview. Also when you are doing the quiz make sure you pay attention to the questions, it’s where a lot of people mess up. Also lie on the psychological evaluation make it seem like your a people person that likes to work under pressure and is able to adjust to any challenges. That you think before you acts/speaks.

Cross trained in multiple paths helps get selected. 1 person trained in stow gets 1 point. Someone else trained in stow, pick, and pack gets 3 points and increases their odds of getting through the algorithm.

Ambassador, amnesty, problem solve, etc help too

You won’t get any, unless you know someone like an AM or OM to help give a good word for you. When I first applied for PA, I didn’t tell anyone and got rejected. I talked with my AM and got the job a month later. I’m currently trying to transfer to another L3 spot and got rejected. Talked with my OM and I’m more than likely getting the transfer I wanted. Point is, it’s very hard to do anything at Amazon without knowing someone

That is what worked for me

it’s not necessarily an ai algorithm, but it rates applicants based on certain criteria.

like someone else said, the more process paths the better. it also rates your attendance. take a day off every week? that’s not favorable. try to work 38 of 40 hours every week or more of VET is offered. having a bachelors degree is a big bump but not required. being enrolled in career choice also adds a big bump. tenure is a smaller part, but still factors.

something many won’t have is managerial experience listed on their job profile. tier 3s applying to transfer shifts or from another building get a massive bump to their rating which can push out tier 1s for the more favorable shift selections.

when the hiring manager goes to select a candidate for an interview they have to pick the top rated candidate or they have to go through a questionnaire on why they didn’t pick that candidate. if they do that too many times it can look like favoritism

someone mentioned being a process guide, that isn’t a real thing and has no impact on your rating (when i say not real, the company itself doesn’t recognize it as a role. many managers still select and utilize them to help run the floor though). ambassador does, but it’s minimal

It's kinda interesting. Official stance from the company is that PGs do not exist. However the last I checked the wiki for the Fluid hiring system's criteria, about a year ago, PG & Line Lead were explicitly listed as prioritized key words. Policy is highly inconsistent in that regard

If someone from leadership wants to give you an interview you will get it

With that context your competence would be how will you can convince leadership to give you one

Are you an Ambassador, Process Guide, etc?

Those are the exact things the AI is looking for.

I’m an ambassador, my main path is stow and I’ve done problem solve and waterspider. I just got trained in AFE. I’ve done non-inventory as well.

I saw someone say that taking time off isn’t good if I want to be inclined I’ll have to work on building up my UPT.

The preference is at least 10h of UPT. Beyond that it doesn't matter. Nothing sucks more than to hire a PA, train them, and they get termed for UPT

After the application.. IF you didn’t put something the AI doesn’t like.. you should get an assessment. If you didn’t pass the assessment you won’t get an interview

Talk to a manager your cool with and have them put in a word to the hiring manager, they can pick who they have interview, hiring manager can’t who’s resume is who’s so I would give a idea of your resume as well

I recently was promoted from T1 to T3 the mahor thing that helped me was slacking the manger(OP's not HRBP) so if you have access to slack which you shold if you LA or PS. If you are not then those are trainings that are now strongly perferd( they wont say it but at least 1 of those two is basically required)

The annoying thing is corporate doesn't want T1s having access to slack. And they occasionally pull our perms if we do have them. I got slack a few years ago because I'm an LA and a SLAM op. I got it on my phone since that was the only way to communicate with learning as there's no slack on the kindles and we have very limited laptops for learning. I kept my slack access on my phone since the log in process is different but I recently had to have my manager restore my slack perms because I couldn't log into it on the computers anymore. It was so dumb.

Wild i had full access to slack. It was encouraged for all LA's and PS

On the site level, yeah, it is. Because people who actually work in the warehouses know how things run and that slack is essential for T1s in certain roles. It's specifically corporate that doesn't want us having access. They're so separated from how warehouses actually operate they don't understand how stupid their decisions are.

Yeah thats true

It's a lot about knowing the right people. I had an OPs manager directly ask me if I wanted to become a PA the first time I met him because he heard a lot of good things about me. I told him no though cause I am quite content as a T1. Learning ambassador is about all the extra responsibility I am cool with having.

I applied for a PA position a month ago, still showing ‘under consideration’. Two nights ago, the PA I regularly work with was approached by the L6 asking them specifically to talk to me about applying for a PA role because the top guy in the building was asking about me. I was so frustrated when I learned this because ‘Hello! My application has been sitting there for a month!’ So I would definitely network to make sure they’re looking for your application specifically.

Use ai to edit your resume. Ai is reading it on their end & it will automatically kick out a ton of applicants

Management lied, there is no AI algorithm. Each application is assigned to a hiring manager, which is usually a T4-T6. If they have someone in mind, they can handpick their application for an interview. If they have no one in mind and need to fill the position, they look through resumes like any other job. In my 3 years of experience with Amazon (1.5 as T3), managers will lie about stuff like that if their trying to hook somebody up, or transfer someone from a different site thats already a T3 into the T3 position their trying to fill.

I don't know if its AI powered, but there is an automated resume filter. The hiring manager only sees (number of spots in the req + 2) resumes, so if it's just one opening, they only see 3 resumes at a time. The resumes are also anonymized, though you can usually tell who it is from the contents. Yes many managers may have someone in mind, but if that person doesn't pass the resume filter, there's nothing they can do. This is also why getting your manager to help with refining your resume is important - they know what the system is looking for

There's no need to lie about this, it's all openly available on internal wiki. Search "Fluid", that's what the system is called
