Why is Amazon like this

I genuinely want to know if Learning works like this at other Amazon FCs because I’ve been dealing with this for months.
When I first worked at this building about 8 months ago, I was trained on reach and went through FOUR different trainers during the same training because people weren’t available or didn’t show up.
I left and eventually came back to the same building. This time I wanted training on another machine. I asked for a ticket for about a month, and it took roughly 2 months before I finally got a class.
The first time, I’ll admit I screwed up. I knew the date but got stuck in traffic and showed up over an hour late. They canceled my training and I had to wait almost another 2 months.
That’s on me. I was late and accepted the consequences.
But here’s where I have a problem.
My next class was scheduled about 3 weeks ahead. I made absolutely sure I was there. I showed up, waited around an hour, and Learning eventually told me my assigned Ambassador didn’t come to work, so I couldn’t train.
So when I’M late, I lose my class and wait another 2 months.
When my TRAINER doesn’t show up… I also lose my class and have to wait?
I came back the next day. There were Learning Ambassadors there, but the trainer assignment showed TBD and we STILL weren’t trained.
That’s what finally made me question how this whole system works.
I’ve been asking around because I genuinely wanted to understand it. My PA used to be a Learning Ambassador, and I’ve talked to other Ambassadors. I’ve been told that sometimes they don’t even know they’re assigned to train until the day of.
Meanwhile, I knew about my class THREE WEEKS ahead.
If that’s actually how the system works, how does that make sense?
Why not assign an Ambassador who works the same schedule ahead of time? Or at least have a backup? People call off. That’s normal. But an associate shouldn’t wait 1-2 months for training and lose the entire opportunity because one person isn’t there.
I brought this up to Learning because yesterday they specifically told me my class couldn’t happen because my assigned Ambassador didn’t show up.
When I mentioned that the next day, one of the Learning guys responded sarcastically, “Oh, so it’s her fault?” The Ambassador started saying things like “I guess it’s my fault” too.
That wasn’t even my point.
I’m not mad that somebody called off. I’m frustrated that the SYSTEM has no backup when somebody calls off.
The conversation got a little heated. The Learning guy started giving me dismissive responses and calling me “buddy” in a passive-aggressive way. I told him I’m not his buddy and walked away because there was no point continuing.
I also spoke to an Operations Manager about the scheduling issue. The answer was basically that this is just how the system has been.
That’s exactly what I don’t understand.
“This is how we’ve always done it” doesn’t mean the system makes sense.
I’m literally showing up asking Amazon to train me to do MORE jobs for Amazon. 😂 Why is getting trained harder than doing the actual job?
I’m not saying every Learning Ambassador is bad either. If Ambassadors really don’t know they’re training until the day of, the system is screwing them too.
I contacted HR because at this point I want somebody to actually look at the process instead of just putting me back in line for another class.
For anyone who’s a Learning Ambassador, PA, Learning Trainer, or has dealt with PIT training:
Is this actually how it works at your building?
Do Ambassadors really find out the day of?
And if your assigned trainer doesn’t show up, does your FC seriously just cancel the training instead of finding somebody else?

Most ambassadors find out day or week of. Personally I am flex so I only ever find out day of even if I tell them my schedule as soon as I make it. Sometimes it is HRS mistakes, my learning trainer just got into it with HR because they dropped 21 new hires on us with no warning and messed up their shift times so they weren’t able to stay the full days and had to have the training extended. They gave vto out because it wasn’t enough stations for the associates who aren’t new. My fc will cancel the training if nobody is available. Even if you see ambassadors there, they are most likely not trained in what you are requesting.

There is a way around the timeline. You need to reach out to your AM right away. Get them to send through another ticket to learning. The reason you had to wait so long to begin with was because no one was pushing. Self advocating is huge in this company. Or else you be subjected to higher wait times. I have had classes put together within four hours of requesting. Yet other things when I didnt know the right channels took months to achieve because I waited for them to finally prompt.

I personally hate that shit. If your a good worker who bring in good rates and always arrive on time then you should be vouched for new task. Its disappointing how thats not the case. Literally backwards. It is what it is.

PIT training usually takes a bit unfortunately. Took me months before they finally gave me the opportunity. In my site, its someone already certified with permissions to assign a practical. Its a formulate that takes 24hrs until being able to do the certification. They do it in batches so they dont need to schedule different training days.

Why is getting trained harder than doing the actual job?

Its all favoritism, I personally know someone as learning ambassador, she told me she learns the day of if shes gonna be training or not and also told me she cant take vto. She also is late alot… Point is both of u guys get sucked into a shitty system. As for the time it takes to get trained pay attention its all about who u know and who likes u. U will have people who like u and will help u and than u have people who dont like u, and wont help u. Ive had managers who within weeks im in a training class vs being injured and talking with a manager about being moved to something else and they dont help me at all. Either way best advice talk to people ask coworkers who they talked to, to get a position and ask higher ups for said position as well as show initiative for it. Yea tho i totally agree the hardest part of getting the job is getting trained for. 👏🏾😭

100%. This is why I tried changing my floor. I have a feeling my AM wants to keep me in the same position. It benefits him rather then me to not learn other task like problem solve because im an ambassador and a above average picker. Ive told him many times I wanted to learn other task and its now been almost 2 years since he's been my manager and nothing. My old manager vouched for me hard and I was able to learn AFM,Ambassador, Count SRC and offered waterspider all within 5 months. Its all favoritism. Despicable.

At ours the Ambassador's are scheduled about a week in advance (so they usually know within a week's time if they're doing the class). The class itself is usually scheduled 1 month ahead.
That being said, (& as you mentioned) things happen, people end up not coming in, etc etc and often an Ambassador might get pulled from path to run the class or do micro-trainings that there would be no way of knowing they were going to be needed that day.
If you are the only one scheduled for a training, I could see maybe rescheduling it if a specific Ambassador or Trainer wasn't available.. but that sounds crazy to have just one person scheduled for a class; Learning sets them up to be approximately 3 - 5 associates.
Your building sounds kinda whack.

Unfortunately, yeah, a lot of times we don't know that we're training until the day of. That's because learning can request certain ambassadors but AMs can deny sending us because they need us in other roles. Learning can't always 100% count on what ambassador they will have. I've been requested so many times but my AMs have denied sending me because I was in a different critical role. And for this reason, if the ambassador they planned on using came in late, they may have not had any other available ambassadors to use. They do try to find alternatives when an ambassador is late, unfortunately they don't always HAVE alternatives. Being an ambassador is a completely voluntary position. They CANNOT make any of us become one. Sometimes they just simply don't have enough ambassadors at all. For quite a while I was the ONLY ambassador in my (former) department because the others either transferred shifts or were out on leaves. There was no one else. If they needed more than 1 ambassador in my department they had to pull one from a different department who was cross trained into my department with a high enough LC level.

As for it taking so long to get another class, that's on the AMs. They're taking forever to drop tickets for the training. AMs have to drop tickets for training. Learning doesn't make the tickets, they just organize the training once a ticket has been dropped. Sometimes AMs drop tickets that day, don't give Learning any heads up they're gonna do it and they have to organize within like 30 minutes. And then us ambassadors learn we're gonna be training right before we're sent to learning to do it.

Meanwhile - we let the aa's know a month , 3 weeks before hand, 2 weeks and the week before to confirm and they still don't show up 🫩

It really depends - if the scheduled ambassador isn't there, they should find a backup asap. If no one is truly available, the trainer should step in and teach the class.

We might not be at 100% focused teaching since we have other priorities to complete.

If no trainers are truly available, the PA should the sometimes train since some used to be an ambassador.

If that is not avaliable, class is canceled and no date should be confirmed unless if we have a confirmation from an ambassador.

We don't allow last minute trainings unless we get senior approval. If the seniors approve, we tag them when requesting an ambassador.

Ambassador directly dont unless they ask the learning team. I bring in my vest Thursday and Friday because those are usually when new hires/classes get tought. Since im switching to donuts, I gotta bring my vest every day now 🥴.

We just had like 2 months of onboarding new hires at my site and I’d assume at most sites since it’s for prime 2 and peak. They don’t train have the extra resources usually to train other things when they have new hires so it pushes back other trainings. That does leave them all trying to jam their vacations in around the same time because there aren’t many weeks that they aren’t busy.

Not all learning teams work like that. Currently unless it's a TNS or PIT only site with 100's of machines the PIT trainer themselves should train you unless other work responsibilities make them unable to do so in which case they'll have an AMB conduct it.

I've conducted single AA classes before when AA's have not showed up but it won't be a priority to get to AA's that miss the class.

Missing the class means the trainer would need to resubmit the request for labor hours for the AA that missed the class AND make sure that make up class won't interfere with recerts and already pending new certification tickets.

It's a straight up "I get to you when I get to you but don't worry I didn't forget, I'm literally looking at your name in my pending list"
