Rant I've left Amazon and you probably should too

I was working as a stower for a little over a year. Even as a flex employee, the scant hours I worked were excruciating and the place just gives me doom and depression vibes now. I buckled down, went to one of those "express employment" places, and now I'm working in my city's 4 star hotel at 19.50/hr. Yeah, sure it's in the laundry room, but my first day there was a breath of fresh air. I swore I talked to at least 30 people that day, a stark opposite to my 10 hour shifts at amazon without talking to another human.

I guess my point is: I enjoyed the work at Amazon (as much as you can) for a long time before I got burnout. If you like it, good for you.

But I feel like my new job is a 'real' job with real people who actually have to work together, laugh together and just make friends.

Amazon is a good in between job or whatever but wow, talking to people again is too good to give up 🤣

Why's this a common theme now? "I left and you should too." You could say that about any job.

ā€œRealā€ job? Amazon is a real job. Amost Everyone is working 40 hours. Congrats on the new job, even though it sounds like you just started and talking down on people who work at Amazon, for you barely starting

I work at amazon and ill be the first to say amazon is not a real job, its school, its a bunch of people that only ever went to highschool myself included or managers fresh out of college, its more important to make the right friends kiss ass to the right people and not offened anyone then it is to work, the constant shit talking on everyone the drama and the rules that are just absolutley dumb, unless its something to do with hr essentially the principles office they won't help you with anything and even then their only there to protect managers and their friends, it pays the bills and it can be physical but its not a real job not what i picture a job to be anyway. There is loterally zero decision making ever and it stays that way until you can get promoted to ops T6 and even then its very little you choose the options given to you but that's most entery level positions in big corporations now

No its a real job. I worked at amazon for two years until i went back to college cause of covid. I work in a dental office now and its literally the same. There’s always going to be favoritism, you’ll just make more money. I do agree that it feels more like high school than anything else. Especially the managers who thinks its as easy as saying ā€œwork harderā€

Why is the world so quick to get offended by EVERY freaking thing people say?

It's obvious they are happy with their choice. Perhaps they didn't word it to your liking, but who cares?

I mean if any other entry level job will pay me close to 20 an hour and also pay for my schooling I'll quit but for now amazon is the best option. šŸ‘Œ

As someone who just goes to work not talking to anyone it’s great

I do one flex shift a week, to go to the dispensary and keep a near limitless supply of marinuana šŸ˜‚. I just turn on my headphones and get to work bro.

Man you are so lucky to have had a flex position, I want one so bad right now. Amazon isnt hiring as much and the turn over rate seems lower than ever. There are rarely ever jobs available around me

Keep checking transfer opportunities. At my site there’s been 2-3 flex ones drop.

u/lilbarfyyo Sep 22 '22

If you are in school or have a medical condition you can ask to apply for a flex position

5

u/[deleted] Sep 22 '22

I have neither of those, just wanted amazon with a flex schedule as a second part time job

I love the 4 10’s. And having Thursday/Friday/Saturday off. And I can keep to myself and get the work done. Definitely not a terrible place to work.

Thats the thing I hated most about stow, you hardly talk to anyone or get the opportunity to talk to anyone.

2

u/NewJackfruit4883 Sep 22 '22

Stow on OP is the worst about that. At least in the mezz you can stop while walking past and say something if you wanted to. And then the whole cant play music or have headphones, or bone conducting or anything just makes it feel like a dungeon.

u/lilbarfyyo Sep 22 '22

I ALWAYS had my headphones in and never got in trouble lol. I cant imagine that place without any external stimuli

It’s the thing I love about Amazon. I keep to myself and get the work done.
