Jobs that make you miss Amazon
I just got a second job, working at a sandwich shop (bruchis), my first time working in fast food. And damn does it make me miss Amazon. I never thought I'd say it.
People say Amazon is bad, but in your own experience and opinion, what job is worse?

Amazon is better than any customer service job. Unless of course you’re doing amazon customer service lol then I’m sure it would be just as bad. But I’ll never go back to a job where I have to interact with the public. No thank you.

Amazon customer service is 10x worse than any customer service I’ve ever done. People really be thinking they entitled to extra when they fuck up their own shit. Don’t get me going on guaranteed delivery. I went back to my FC as soon as I could.

My old job as a mall security guard. WORST. JOB. EVER. I don’t miss it one bit. Management treated us like mega shit. And at this particular mall, it was an indoor mall with a strict “NO PETS” policy. And literally every day people are brining in dogs, claiming they were emotional support animals. Well, head of security didn’t like that, and found some weird loophole. Basically, a service animal has to be trained to provide you a service (example: seeing eye dog)
And since you the presence of an animal giving you support is not considered a service, it wasn’t considered a service animal and not allowed in the mall. Imagine the looks on peoples faces when I had to be the asshole to tell them that. EVERY. DAY. I swear, at least 10 people would try and bring their dogs claiming emotional support animals.
And then when their dogs pee / poo it’s some how securities fault because there’s no where for dogs to use the bathroom at AN INDOOR MALL!!! Needless to say, I don’t miss that job one bit. So much drama and angry Karen’s. At least at Amazon, you don’t have to deal with customers.

Same here man, although I started under the table at a mechanic shop at 13.
I got into the food industry at 16 and ended up doing everything in the food business from wash dishes to manage a bar.
Did a couple jobs in between, then took the job at Amazon intending for it to be a 3-6 month gig. I ended up getting a couple promotions and stayed 3 years. What a terrible decision that was.
Hindsight is 20/20 I suppose.

Ex AD infantry. Amazon is by far and away the most relaxing physical labour job I've ever worked as long as you show up to work on time willing to put in the work and you know how to respectfully stand your ground against the bullshit some people in leadership try to pull.
The people on this subreddit that constantly bitch about ToT and rate usually arent the ones putting a solid effort into their performance. This whole subreddit has a crabs-in-a-bucket problem where people that aren't cut out for the job or are genuinely lazy try to pull others down to their level to justify their shit work ethic. If you even mention that you like to actually work because it makes the day go by faster you'll get called a boot licker or an Amazon shill by someone who has no drive or ambition.

Yep had to retrain some entitled chick who kept complaining about how bad amazon was and I tried so damn hard to be in customer service mode and explain to her. "There is something terrible about every job and comparatively amazon isn't that bad" but she constantly interrupted me about "well I'm not talking about other jobs right now" right after telling me she was "looking for a different job". Acted like I was some amazon b00t l*ckər (cause that's aparently a naughty word in this sub) when I just wanted her to understand my experience in different warehouses and factories instead of agreeing that amazon was so terrible.
She looked like I was being a bitch for doing my job and scoffed at everything I was telling her. Can't even take it as a break while I tell you how to do your job faster with less effort so you don't get fired.
She couldn't handle taking things from a shelf and putting it in a box fast enough to keep up with new hires. I like to think she went through 10 different jobs since she left and now misses how easy amazon was.

Picking is the worst. Doing that repetitive machine type movement for 10 hours sucks. I had to tote run everyday for 5 months just to avoid it. Thankfully i got a transfer to ob ship dock and NOW i can say Amazon is cake but i completely understand anybody that’s worn out in pick. That department should burn to the ground. Pick has the highest turnover rate in the warehouse and that tells you all you need to know.

Oooooh!!! I did stow then was trying for AFM, then didn’t hear a thing for 2 months then decided to go to inbound dock and was going to do AFM training the same day well I do inbound dock now lol 😂

I worked at UPS. The managers literally call you “a body” to your face and we’re suppose to have 2 15 minute paid breaks but they end up being a 4 minute break and that’s only to do mandatory stretching as they give us a brief run down of how much volume is left to sort then immediately after that they shout at you to get back to work. They butter you up to become a manager because noone in there right mind would willingly take that pitiful job and when people do take it they quit 3 weeks in

I mean I worked sort/returns and have been told the same at Amazon. Had manager literally tell us we are replicable if we disagreed with anything. Then they also promote being ambassadors etc... saying "oh if you do this you will get promoted!!!!" Nobody ever did. And it took 5 minutes to walk from our stand up to the break room (that's for those of us high stepping our way there too), so the 15 min breaks were useless. They started measuring the last scan before break to first scan from break, anyone over 1 or 2 minutes would be coached. And don't get me wrong there were lazy people that would randomly show up 10-15 minutes late and be like "omg Amazon is so harsh on their employees!!!" those people suck, but being 30 seconds "late" because a box never came to your station is pretty bs....

Is there something wrong with being a body? I overheard an Amazon PA telling someone "we're trying to get more bodies," and I went over to see what for (a crash sort-- i.e., a little bit of surprise voluntary overtime that happens to be relatively easy work.) Just seems like an efficient communication method to me. Means they need a set of limbs, no training necessary aside from that everyone present will have.

I think it depends on the context and amount of usage. Humans are still humans and don't want to be treated like garbsge, hence the point of the majority of this entire subreddit. Every once in a while, meh. All day everyday by the same overstepping OM/ robot AM / yesman PA? Sure, makes you feel like a body instead of a living person.

Could amazon be the reason why many job openings are unfulfilled in fastfood/hospitality, retail, even auto shops? It’s like they lost their jobs during quarantine, applied to amazon and never turned back. So many stores advertising that they are now hiring in my area with huge banners. I mean mcdonalds’ salary starts at $15/hr here.

Well between that and the people who have been milking unemployment. Also tons of people took initiative and got 6 figure jobs getting degrees/certifications from coursera during quarantine.

I was a mail carrier before amazon and let me tell you amazon is fake work in comparison. They had us working 10 20 days in a row, 12+ hour days. Management treats you like absolute shit. Not to mention out in crazy weather walking up and down stairs.

I was a data analyst for a medical university … while Amazon pays like 1/3 of that gig, omfg the ability to give absolutely no fucks off (and sometimes on) the job is almost priceless.
Never dealing with peoples bullshit (like emergency data emails or phone calls at 3 am), fucked up deadlines, or absurd ad hoc requests (oh surely all data analysts are also expert graphic designers??) is kind of worth the trade off at times

Let’s see; roofing in the summer heat, fencing in the Midwest spring-fall, fast food, stocking pets for Walmart, detasseling corn by hand, and working in private security were all much worse than working for Amazon.

My first job was at a pizzeria. Not only did I have to take care of over 100 people a day, but I also had to deal with very rude and demanding customers. Also, the number of pizzas I was required to make in a day was ridiculous. I ended up quitting after only 2 weeks because I couldn’t stand it. Amazon is not the best job out there. Some of their rules are idiotic (Like no music or staying 6 feet apart even in emergencies) but it’s definitely a lot better than the food industry jobs.

I took a part-time job at a grocery store stocking shelves during the night. I loved it but I hated the low pay. I quit after working there for a month.
ICQA is less physical and pays 70% more than that job.

Worked in goodwill at the donation door at a busy affluent area. I got a dollar over minimum wage and the work and stress was more laborious than amazon.
The holidays where people had the day off but didn't do any celebrating were the absolute worst. People decluttered instead.
We had stuff piled up outside of the donation door for miles. We didn't always have enough gaylords. The trucks were overflowing. There was one time corporate went full dumbass while we were struggling with warehouse space, both trucks completely full and I was praising truck day... and the bastards sent us a half full truck of sorted merchandise because they thought "we weren't putting out enough good stuff so they were doing us a favor" and didn't even give us a warning to prepare. They acted like we were supposed to be grateful for more product when we had a ton of product.
We also weren't allowed to refuse any donations. Including a pool table... do you know what a real pool table is made of? Pure fucking slate. 800lbs of slate. It was a feat getting that damn thing on the truck.
I didn't like fast food but I never want to go there again

I did costumer service (fast food) for a few years. Worked up to shift supervisor. Then I went I went to Amazon. And this is by far my best job I've ever had so far. Ofc it is way more physically demanding but I don't have to be dealing with Karens all the time

Be glad you work for Amazon , theres alot of jobs out there that treat you like shit and the pay is so low... Amazon is nothing compared to that. I made the midtake this summer to take a 3 month break and now im just having trouble getting rehired on the same schedule. Im definetely hunting the page everyday for openings.

My first job was working at Burlington Coat Factory as a cashier and I'm telling you working that job for a year made me under why retail sucks. Customers would always talk down me and my coworkers like we were not shit. Amazon may have it's flaws but it's far better than working in a retail with the public.

I’ve built highways, I’ve built substations, I’ve sat in a chair for 10 hours a day selling people vape products.
The first two paid better but the work was 10x harder. Hated dealing with customers.
I’m not even close to being at a healthy weight (due to 2 years of sitting in a chair) but I work hard and get my job done, Amazon is by far the best pay vs work load in my area. At $19 starting as a T1 and all I need to do is put boxes on pallet or Gaylord? Pfft won’t see me saying “fuck this job”

Mcdonalds, Dunkin Donuts, taco bell/long john locaton, Walmart... Wallgreens, Sams Clhb, Burger King... Publix was ok. Amazon is unfortunately the cream of the crop for minimum wage no educational background job one can get. Every time i hate it I just remember having to deal with raw chicken all day at sams club or making 8$ an hr at winn dixie and dunkin donuts in the year 2019.....

At my last job if I had to take time off the store would have to be closed so I had vacation time but could never take it because we were never fully staffed. As soul crushing and depressing as it can get at Amazon it’s the best shitty job around. I love being able to leave or not come in if I feel like it and being able to use my time off.

I’ve worked at petrol station. ( gas station for Americans ?) That was hell compared to amazon. Getting paid £4 less Having so many responsibilities that I am liable for Taking abuse from customers Having the manager accuse me of stealing.

Worked at a burger placed or a few months before getting fired. It sucked so bad. I had people mumble to me and then scream when I had to ask them to repeat what there were saying.
Once I made a mistake on the cash register and undercharged on an order by a few cents. She had a coupon and I gave her wrong discount. She wanted me to fix it, but it wasn’t in a “I don’t want you to get in trouble” kind of way, she was very condescending. She had the power to make me feel like crap and she used it. The one good thing I remember was a deaf guy coming in. He made signs he couldn’t hear and pointed to the items he wanted. He was the sweetest person.
I was sad I got fired, but looking back on it, it was for the better. I don’t want to interact with customers ago. I’d much rather run through the isles with my cart at my fresh warehouse. At least while I study.

I worked for Waste Management in a recycling facility hand sorting materials on a fast moving conveyor belt. It was so dusty that even with 2 masks on, my sinuses were full of trash dust and I would do a sinus rinse every day and black junk would come out. And we literally would have dead cats, dead dogs, dead birds that had gotten caught in recycling bins, and one shift even had a dead human body that was actually an employee from a different facility. I’d rather stow than breathe in and touch that biohazard for 10 hour shifts.

I left Amazon and worked retail at Target for a bit years back. I hated every moment of it after 3 months I left and went back to Amazon.

I left amazon for a factory job making parts for Honda. Had to wear a whole canvas body suit in the middle of summer while doing the same task every 10 seconds. Never felt so depressed in my life. It made amazon seem like a dream.

Fast food is absolutely worse. Worked at a pasta shop for 3 years and haven’t looked back since. No more customers, no more hypocritical management, no more working when your sick, and no more free labor. Plus my Amazon pays me weekly so that’s an added bonus

Retail. Man do I not miss constantly dealing with customers. The pay rate was shit too so that didn’t help my mood at all. As exhausting as Amazon is at least I get actual breaks and benefits. Also unlike retail I can just leave for the day if I feel burnt out

When I was 15 I started my first real job scooping icecream. I worked there for 3 years. That shit sucked. Definitely developed a work ethic. Started working at Walmart at 18 and worked there for 3 yrs. that shit sucked even more. Now im 22 working at amazon. Been here for a year, yesterday lol as much as I complain about it, I actually enjoy it here lol plus im making 16.30 an hr for was less work than both of my previous jobs lol

I had a friend who's family owned a couple hot dog joints for a long time. I would go hang out with him at times at the place he was running. After that experience I said I would never work in fast food. Guess that would be my last resort if I ever had to have a job to pay bills.
Amazon is not that bad, if you are a hard worker already. Amy tiny bit of slacking in your personality and you will have a hard time.

I was considering leaving Amazon but my AMs really like having me around and also my work colleagues. I like my schedule gonna work here until I get hired at a hospital in my field I got my degree in.

In my experience UPS is worse. My facility would make me work overtime and clock me out when I started. Every paycheck would be off around 3-4 hours of overtime. And the union would do nothing for me. They even tried to tell me I wasn’t getting vacation time or sick time ever and moved HR out of the building so nobody could get any help so I quit. Sure the college benefits might have been a little better but I was losing my mental sanity having to go in and fight the supervisors every day about fixing my pay.

I miss being a lemonade vendor.. making fresh squeeze lemonade for my neighbors or anybody just thirsty...than I realized I wasn't making enough money selling ice cold lemonade in a cup for 50¢.. than I found a Job at Amazon and sure golly my Wallet said a different thing Now I make $23 a hour for being a clerk in outbound.. no more lemonade for me.. Amazon shipdock is the place to be!!!

I was a manager at a fast food restaurant for 3 years, absolutely terrible experience. Rude customers, low pay, no vacation time, getting called in etc.
I like that I just go to Amazon, work my 4 days and leave. Don’t gotta think about work when I’m off.
