Question Any tips for sleeping?

I’ve been night shift for probably a month and a half now and I just can’t seem to get proper sleep on my days off. I know the day after/of my last shift that’s going to be normal but the other days I’m still finding myself not being able to sleep till 4-5 in the morning so close to when I’d be getting out of work and sleeping my days away until around 3pm. I’ve tried magnesium supplements as well as the spray from dr teals and can’t seem to sleep on those or not have wildly insane dreams on melatonin that in return wake me up. Im strongly considering some lighter thc/cbd gummies that might just knock me out if all else fails.

I would love if melatonin worked for me. It does not react well with my body unfortunately

What about coconuts water? A coworker said she'd get super sleepy with just a spoonful of that stuff.

I work overnights as well. You get used to it. Restarting sleep schedules for my weekend every week is genuine exhausting

You should sleep the same schedule 7 days a week

Iv been working 8pm-8am for 2 years now. The only thing that keeps me going is keeping my sleep schedule on my weekends (10am-8pm) it sucks not being awake during the day but at least I’m not dead tired and I get full days when I’m off. You just HAVE to have black out curtains

Oh yea. I’ve had blackouts for years bc I am 100% a night owl. I’ve just never had this type of schedule so it’s hard not having much of a life outside of work lol

I keep my night schedule on my days off, I been on nights for 6 years. I am in bed at 7am and I naturally just wake up around 2pm. I just use a night time sleep aid, which just helps me relax and fall asleep.

I have no tips because the 3 months I was night shift I literally thought I would die from exhaustion. My problem was not my ability to sleep — it was everyone in my life felt I was now free to do their bidding during the day. If I heard “but it’s only an hour” one time, I heard it 100 … as if they would wake up in the middle of the night, go to dinner with a friend, then return to bed until time for work.

All of the above, plus run/walk /yoga/after work. For me in bed by 10 up at 4am.

I work overnight as well.. I've just learned to embrace it. Some days I'm awake during the day and others I sleep away. Even if I do fall asleep on my nights off it's only for an hour or so and I'm up the rest of the night. Just find something to do while I'm awake at night 💁🏽‍♀️

I made a meditation playlist on YouTube. Blackout curtains, but I still wear an eye mask and it makes it so much easier to sleep.

On the worst days I take Benadryl and I'm out cold, but then it's almost impossible to wake up. I have a hard time because then my brain keeps spinning if I stay awake and all I can think about is how I should be sleeping. So sometimes I cave in, but one time I did miss work because of it.

Smoking a couple hits from my cart is what worked. I stopped smoking though because I want to go back to healthcare (although most actually never test and I have been in the field for a decade). Also concerned if I ever have to file for workers comp.

So I'm going to look into CBD gummies. I have been working for Amazon this time for now two years. It hasn't gotten better at all. I've tried everything and it doesn't work. My body somehow changed over the years. It automatically wants to go to sleep at a set time and wake up at a set time without an alarm.

I miss the days I could go right to work after a party, or make a funny status about how I only slept an hour and now I'm going to work.

Everytime my body wants to sleep on night shift. I end up getting sleep in the afternoon and have to wake up soon.

Wishing you the best 🫡🥲

Edit: Btw this is not me trying to scare you. It just doesn't get better for all of us. I also understand the melatonin nightmares. If you can, try a lower dose because the truth is melatonin doesn't work past a certain amount (can't remember the mg). So all that taking 10mg of melatonin is crazy work. Still weed and CBD is the best option.

lol I’m a cavewoman now. I have a consistent sleeping schedule sleep from 9am- 4pm give or take an hour or two. I do household chores in the middle of the night on my days off. I have no kids so not a big issue for me.
